Iterative reconstruction from single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) data requires regularization to avoid noise amplification and edge artefacts in the reconstructed image. This is often accomplished by stopping the iteration process at a relatively low number of iterations or by post-filtering the reconstructed image. The aim of this paper is to develop a method to automatically select an optimal combination of stopping iteration number and filters for a particular imaging situation. To this end different error measures between the distribution of a phantom and a corresponding filtered SPECT image are minimized for different iteration numbers. As a study example, simulated data representing a brain study are used. For post-reconstruction filtering, the performance of 3D linear diffusion (Gaussian filtering) and edge preserving 3D nonlinear diffusion (Catté scheme) is investigated. For reconstruction methods which model the image formation process accurately, error measures between the phantom and the filtered reconstruction are significantly reduced by performing a high number of iterations followed by optimal filtering compared with stopping the iterative process early. Furthermore, this error reduction can be obtained over a wide range of iteration numbers. Only a negligibly small additional reduction of the errors is obtained by including spatial variance in the filter kernel. Compared with Gaussian filtering, Catté diffusion can further reduce the error in some cases. Safe techniques for regional chemotherapy of the limbs by perfusion are now available. The method is effective in obtaining regionally confined high levels of toxic drugs or chemotherapeutic agents in the isolated areas. The best responses have been observed in limb melanoma with recurrent or intransit disease. Chemotherapy by perfusion as an adjunct to surgical excision reduces the local recurrence and the regional and lymph node metastases. Our survivals for adjunctive perfusion for Stage I melanomas with Level V and lesions 5 mm thick and thicker are better than usually reported. Regional chemotherapy has had an important role in reduction of major amputations for the control of limb melanoma. Multiple chemotherapeutic limb perfusions can further extent survival in patients with recurring melanoma. 相似文献

Navicula pelliculosa and an associated Flavobacterium sp. were isolated from the epiphyton of Scirpus maritimus, an emergent macrophyte growing in a brackish drainage dyke. Both micro-organisms possessed active transport systems for glucose uptake. In N. pelliculosa the transport system was fully induced in the dark in the absence of glucose, and subsequently inactivated when transferred to the light in the absence of the substrate. The presence of glucose during the dark induction period prevented the achievement of maximum specific activity of the transport system, while incubation at a high light intensity with or without the presence of the substrate resulted in a very marked inhibition of glucose uptake. Inhibition in the light was partially offset by blocking photosynthetic electron flow with 3'(3,4 dichlorophenyl)1'1' dimethyl urea. The transport system accumulated 3-O-methyl glucose against a concentration gradient and was highly specific for glucose as there was no competition by most of the other sugars tested. However, 6-deoxyglucose was taken up instead of glucose and this suggested that glucose was transported in a non-phosphorylated state, whereas inhibition of glucose transport activity with dicyclohexylcarbodimide implicated the involvement of an adenosine triphosphatase on the cell membrane. Inhibitors of oxidative phosphorylation tetrachlorosalicylaniline and carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone also inhibited glucose transport activity. The affinity of the diatom for glucose was greater than that shown by the bacterium, but the Km for glucose transport, 1.5x10-5M was too high to allow effective removal of glucose at in situ concentrations. 相似文献

A 59-week study was conducted to evaluate the impact of adult Mesocyclops longisetus populations on larval mosquito species inhabiting tires. Greater than 90% reduction of number of 1st and 2nd instars was recorded by 4 wk with 90% reduction of number of 3rd and 4th instars after 7 wk. Reduced control was noted with the onset of cooler winter water temperature. Overall. a 52% reduction in the number of 1st and 2nd instars was achieved, and a 57% reduction was noted in number of 3rd- and 4th-instar mosquito larvae. Cooler temperatures resulted in a decline of adult Mesocyclops, which resulted in reduced larval control. Significantly greater numbers of Mesocyclops adults were collected in tires with either new litter or heavy amounts of litter regardless of litter type.
