Indian electric tariffs are characterized by very high rates for industrial and commercial classes to permit subsidized electric consumption by residential and agricultural customers. We investigate the viability of this policy using monthly data for 1997–2003 on electric consumption by a few large industrial customers under the aegis of a small distribution company in the state of Uttar Pradesh. For a given price/cost ratio, it can be shown that if the cross-subsidizing class’ electricity demand is sufficiently elastic, increasing the class’ rates fail to recover incremental cross-subsidy necessary to support additional revenues for subsidized classes. This suboptimality is tested by individually estimating time-variant price-elasticities of demand for these industrial customers using Box-Cox and linear regressions. We find that at least for some of these customers, cross-subsidy was suboptimal prior to as late as October 2001, when rates were changed following reforms.  相似文献

This paper presents a simplified analytical model of a silicon-controlled-rectifier based, load-commutated inverter driven, commutatorless series motor to predict its speed-current, torque-current and torque-speed characteristics. The model has been formulated, keeping in view the steady state equivalent circuit of a conventional DC series motor. The proposed analytical expressions relating torque and current with speed are found to follow an inverse law and that relating torque and current is found to be parabolic, as is expected in a "series" machine. The drive has been implemented, loaded with a DC generator and experimentally similar characteristics have been obtained, as predicted by the analytical model. The characteristics obtained experimentally are seen to follow the ones, predicted by the analytical model closely  相似文献

In recent years, chemically bonded single-layer diamond abrasive tools are getting preference over their galvanically bonded counterparts for many applications because of their outstanding performance. The chemical bonding is achieved by direct brazing of the diamond grit to a steel substrate with an active braze alloy. The present study has shown that the principle of chemical bonding can be extended to fabricate monolayer CBN-coated tools. It is further indicated that understanding of the influence of various construction parameters on the formation of the topography of the tool is required to prepare a good brazed tool. Various case studies are presented to show the influence of the topography of the working surface of such a tool, work material characteristics and grinding parameters on the behaviour of the tool in terms of cutting capability, force and power requirement, loading, grit wear and grit pull out.  相似文献

The microsecond Nd glass pulsed laser interaction with polycrystalline nickel was studied with particular emphasis on melting and the nature of the microstructural development following irradiation. The change in the melt pool shape and the melting efficiency as a function of the total laser power has been determined. Evidence is presented to show that for low energy pulse, the microstructural development accompanies fresh nucleation of grains and leads to a finer grain size than that of the substrate. At a higher energy level, growth competition leads to a coarser grain size. We also report a banded feature roughly parallel to the melt substrate interface that develops in the resolidified region during high energy interaction. These results are discussed in the light of our present understanding of rapid solidification processes.  相似文献

The minimum weight design of helicopter rotor blades with constraints on multiple coupled flap-lag natural frequencies is studied in this paper. A constraint is also imposed on the minimum value of the autorotational inertia of the blade to ensure sufficient autorotational inertia to autorotate in case of an engine failure. A stress constraint is used to guard against structural failure due to blade centrifugal forces. Design variables include blade taper ratio, dimensions of the box beam located inside the airfoil and magnitudes of the nonstructural weights. The program CAMRAD is used for the blade modal analysis and the program CONMIN for the optimization. In addition, a linear approximation involving Taylor series expansion is used to reduce the analysis effort. The procedure contains a sensitivity analysis which consists of analytical derivatives of the objective function, the autorotational inertia constraint and the stress constraints. A central finite difference scheme is used for the derivatives of the frequency constraints. Optimum designs are obtained for both rectangular and tapered blades. Recent trends, being towards mostly unmanned automated machining systems and consistent system operations, need reliable on-line monitoring processes. A proper on-line cutting tool condition monitoring system is essential for deciding when to change the tool. Many methods have been attempted in this connection.Recently, artificial neural networks have been tried for this purpose because of its inherent simplicity and reasonably quick data-processing capability. The present work uses the back propagation algorithm for training the neural network of 5-3-1 structure. The technique shows close matching of estimation of average flank wear and directly measured wear value. Thus the system developed demonstrates the possibility of successful tool wear monitoring on-line.  相似文献

One major constraint of the agricultural uses of fly ash (FA) is the low availability of different plant nutrients despite their high occurrence in the total amount. However, degrading FA through increased microbial activity can improve the availability of these nutrients substantially. It has been found that intestines of epigeic earthworms contain a high concentration of different microorganisms. Therefore, in the present study we addressed the effects of vermicomposting technology on the solubility of some micronutrient cations (Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn) and some heavy metals (Pb, Cd, and Cr) in different combinations of fly ash and organic matter, applied in the form of cow dung (CD). Various combinations of FA and CD were treated with and without an epigeic earthworm (Eisenia fetida) and the solubility of different trace elements in the treatments were estimated periodically. The results revealed that the inclusion of epigeic earthworm Eisenia fetida in different combinations of fly ash and cow dung converted a considerable amount of the micronutrients into bio-available forms. On the other hand, the solubility of heavy metals tended to be reduced by the microorganisms, presumably by formation of some organo-metallic complex. Application of these vermicomposted FA and CD combinations to a red lateritic soil was found to improve the soluble Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn status of the soil. Furthermore, the use of vermicomposted FA and CD (1:1) in potato cultivation demonstrated that use of this mixture at 10 ton per hectare (t ha−1; fresh weight) was able to compensate 80% of the recommended NPK fertiliser, along with farm yard manure application, without compromising the crop yield.  相似文献
