Meta-analytic methods were used to determine the most sensitive indexes to fronto-subcortical deficit in progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and to further characterize the neurocognitive and related features of PSP that can provide a basis of comparison to other disorders with prominent subcortical brain lesions. Studies dating back to 1984 were gathered and calibrated to compare the neuropsychological, neuroimaging, and neurophysiological test results from 229 patients with PSP, and 357 healthy controls. The tests most sensitive to fronto-subcortical deficit in PSP were mostly neuropsychological measures that include such tests as the Stroop Task, Trail Making Test Part A, and Purdue pegboard performance. We conclude that although neuropsychological measures may be most sensitive to deficits in PSP, they are also less specific and valid indicators of fronto-subcortical brain system integrity. 相似文献

We describe two cases of congenital chylothorax in siblings with important differences from previously described familial cases. Our findings support the likelihood of an autosomal recessive inheritance in some cases of this condition, rather than X-linked recessive inheritance, which has also been suggested. Cerebellar granule cells isolated from postnatal day 7 mice, and cultured in minimal medium containing only insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), both survive and differentiate. This differentiation is marked by neurite growth and expression of genes associated with terminal differentiation, the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2A (MEF2A) and the alpha 6 subunit of the gamma-aminobutyric acidA receptor (GABAA alpha 6). Percoll gradient purified granule cells maintained without IGF-I, in minimal medium alone or in medium containing the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC), also express MEF2A and GABAA alpha 6. FM-FM neurons in the auditory cortex of the mustached bat are highly specialized for echolocation, responding facilitatively to the combination of frequency modulated (FM) components of biosonar pulse and its echo. Here we propose they are also specialized for processing bat communication calls. FM-FM neurons respond facilitatively to natural call syllable pairs, and exhibit inter-syllable interval tuning to the natural range of intervals. Our results support a role for 'combination-sensitive' neurons in communication, and suggest that cortical neurons can possess multiple distinct specialized modes of response. 相似文献

The Galileo spacecraft has been orbiting Jupiter since 7 December 1995, and encounters one of the four galilean satellites-Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto-on each orbit. Initial results from the spacecraft's magnetometer have indicated that neither Europa nor Callisto have an appreciable internal magnetic field, in contrast to Ganymede and possibly Io. Here we report perturbations of the external magnetic fields (associated with Jupiter's inner magnetosphere) in the vicinity of both Europa and Callisto. We interpret these perturbations as arising from induced magnetic fields, generated by the moons in response to the periodically varying plasma environment. Electromagnetic induction requires eddy currents to flow within the moons, and our calculations show that the most probable explanation is that there are layers of significant electrical conductivity just beneath the surfaces of both moons. We argue that these conducting layers may best be explained by the presence of salty liquid-water oceans, for which there is already indirect geological evidence in the case of Europa. 相似文献

Wood–polymer composites (WPC) of Geronggang (Cratoxylon arborescens), a light tropical hardwood, impregnated with methyl methacrylate (MMA), methyl methacrylate-co-acrylonitrile (1 : 1; MAN), and styrene-co-acrylonitrile (3 : 2; STAN), were prepared by in situ polymerization using gamma radiation or the catalyst–heat treatment. The FTIR spectra of the three types of WPC, with polymer loadings ranging from 10 to 70%, were compared with that of the wood itself and the respective polymers. Characteristic peaks due to C?O vibration of MMA, C?N stretching of acrylonitrile, and ring stretching and bending of styrene monomers, were prominent in the samples that had higher polymer loadings. For the copolymeric systems, quantitation of the FTIR spectra of these characteristic peaks enabled calculations of incorporated acrylonitrile and styrene monomers in the composites to be made. The FTIR spectra of the residues remaining, after exhaustive extraction to remove homopolymer, showed that graft copolymerization of wood components with acrylonitrile and styrene monomers was possible, but not with MMA. Composites prepared by the two methods, gamma radiation and the catalyst–heat treatment, were shown to be chemically very similar. 相似文献

Well‐defined polymer‐Mg(OH)2 nanocomposites were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The ATRP initiators were covalently attached to the Mg(OH)2 by esterification of 2‐chloropropionyl chloride with hydroxyl group. The amount of polymer grafted from Mg(OH)2 can be controlled using a different catalyst system and adding a small amount of polar solvent. The well‐defined diblock copolymer, consisting of poly(styrene) (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were synthesized. The products were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermal gravimetric analysis.
