特征提取，缩维和网络计算数据的译释

该文主要内容是模式识别和人工智能研究机构长期感兴趣的主题之一“特征提取”，它有助于分类任务和其他任务的完成。笔者认为：神经网络的内部显示法不会产生特征值，但却为诸如存储、归类、显示及联想提供了大量信息和算法。文内用基准数据、现场传感器数据及由半导体晶格结构参数组成的三组数据来具体阐明了上述内容。

Application of combined adaptive Fourier filtering technique and fault detector to fast distance protection

This paper presents the application of a combined adaptive Fourier filtering technique and fault detector to fast distance protection of transmission lines. The filtering technique is extended from the Fourier filters and can be applied under arbitrary data window length. The proposed filtering technique possesses the advantage of recursive computing, and a decaying dc offset component is removed from fault signals by using an adaptive compensation method. A variable data window scheme is embedded in the technique to adaptively speed up its transient response under various system and fault conditions. A fault detector is developed to initiate the process of the technique. For the sake of speed and security, two phasor estimation methods based on the proposed technique are designed to achieve fast distance protection. An algorithm consisting of the two methods is used to detect internal faults by "OR" logic. Extensive simulation studies show that the algorithm significantly reduces tripping time of a distance relay and provides better protection performance than that of the conventional filters with fixed data windows.     

Comments on "Stochastic choice of basis functions in adaptive function approximation and the functional-link net" [and reply].

This paper includes some comments and amendments of the above-mentioned paper by Igelnik et al. (1995). Subsequently, Theorem 1 in the above-mentioned paper has been revised. The significant change of the original theorem is the space of the thresholds in the hidden layer. The revised theorem says that the thresholds of hidden b(0), should be -w(0).y(0)-u(0), where w(0)=alphaw;(0); w;(0)=(w; (01), ..., y(0d)), and u(0 ) be independent and uniformly distributed in V(d)=[0; Omega]x[-Omega; Omega](d-1), I(d), and [-2dOmega, 2dOmega], respectively. In reply, Igelnik et al. acknowledge that a factor of two was omitted in the statement of a trigonometric identity. However, the validity of the essential point of Theorem 1 is unaltered.     

Learning and classification of monotonic ordinal concepts

Ordinal reasoning plays a major role in human cognition. This paper identifies an important class of classification problems of patterns taken from ordinal domains and presents efficient, incremental algorithms for learning the classification rules from examples. We show that by adopting a monotonicity assumption of the output with respect to the input, inconsistencies among examples can be easily detected and the number of possible classification rules substantially reduced. By adopting a conservative classification criterion, the required number of rules further decreases. The monotonicity and conservatism of the classification also enable the resolution of conflicts among inconsistent examples and the graceful handling of don't knows and don't cares during the learning and classification phases. Two typical examples in which the suggested classification model works well are given. The first example is taken from the financial domain and the second from machining.

Polarcardiographic criteria for myocardial infarction in Chinese men

A biochemical study was performed in two patients submitted to insulin coma therapy. The injection of insulin resulted in a decrease of free and total tryptophan as well as tyrosine in plasma, while NEFA were not influenced by this treatment. The ratio of tryptophan to tyrosine was enhanced. The administration of glucose after insulin provoked an increase of free and total tryptophan. The results support the hypothesis that in man insulin may favor the uptake of tryptophan by the brain, and enhance the synthesis of cerebral serotonin.     

Generation of 3.5-ps fall-time shock waves on a monolithic GaAsnonlinear transmission line

It is shown that nonlinear wave propagation on a monolithic GaAs nonlinear transmission line can form shock waves with fall time as short as 3.5 ps. An output fall time of 4.3 ps was measured for a single line driven at 15 GHz (20-ps fall time) while a cascade of two lines driven at 8 GHz (37-ps fall time) produced a 2-V wavefront with 3.5-ps fall time
