This note focuses on linear discrete-time systems controlled using a quantized input computed from quantized measurements. Nominally stabilizing, but otherwise arbitrary, state feedback gains could result in limit cycling or nonzero equilibrium points. Although a single quantizer is a sector nonlinearity, the presence of a quantizer at each state measurement channel makes traditional absolute stability theory not applicable in a direct way. A global asymptotic stability condition is obtained by means of a result which allows us to apply discrete positive real theory to systems with a sector nonlinearity which is multiplicatively perturbed by a bounded function of the state. The stability result is readily applicable by evaluating the location of the polar plot of a system transfer function relative to a vertical line whose abcissa depends on the one-norm of the feedback gain. A graphical method is also described that can be used to determine the equilibrium points of the closed-loop system for any given feedback gain. 相似文献

This paper considers fundamental and experimental aspects associated with the engineering design of a medical, non‐linear drilling device which exploits shape memory pseudoelasticity of NiTi wires. For this application it is important that the NiTi wires have a good fatigue resistance. This is why the present authors have previously determined the influence of various parameters on cyclic life, crack growth and stress state of pseudoelastic wires subjected to bending rotation fatigue. The actual drilling device has to withstand twist in addition to bending rotation because the free rotation is constrained by friction between the drill head and the bone material. In addition, friction between the wire and a NiTi guiding tube results in wear and this may well promote fatigue crack nucleation. In this paper, we explain the function of the medical drill. We then report results on the effect of the additional parameters (1) twist and (2) wear on the fatigue life of thin pseudoelastic NiTi wires. We finally discuss the implications of our experimental results for the design process of the medical drilling device. 相似文献

Dopaminergic modulation of cortical activity has been implicated in the formation of reward associations. There is abundant evidence for dopaminergic effects on olfactory processing. Using an olfactory discrimination task, the authors show that D? and D? dopamine receptors can regulate rats' olfactory discrimination capacities and that the effects of receptor activation functionally oppose one another. Injection of either the D? agonist SKF 38393 (10 mg/kg) or the D? antagonist spiperone (0.62 mg/kg) facilitated the discrimination of similar odorants but had no effect on the discrimination of dissimilar odorants, whereas both the D, antagonist SCH 23390 (0.025 mg/kg) and the D? agonist quinpirole (0.2 mg/kg) significantly impaired rats' ability to discriminate similar and dissimilar odorants. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether obesity influences cardiac autonomic nerve function. DESIGN: Comparing two groups of subjects with different degrees of obesity to normal weight controls. SUBJECTS: 19 healthy controls (mean age 33 y, BMI 21.7 +/- 0.2 kg/m2) and 17 obese non-diabetic subjects (mean age 39 y, BMI 33.7 +/- 1.8 kg/m2). MEASUREMENTS: Insulin sensitivity was calculated by an oral glucose tolerance test. Autonomic nerve function was evaluated by analysing the variation of the heart frequency at rest (coefficient variation of R-R intervals, REST 1), during deep respiration, at a Valsalva maneuver (longest/shortest R-R interval during inspiration hold) and by the Ewing test (ratio between the 30th and 15th R-R interval after reaching up-right position). RESULTS: The obese showed a lower insulin sensitivity than healthy controls (3.09 vs 4.60 mg x l2/mmol x mU x min, P < 0.001). Their variation in heart frequency was reduced (REST 1: 1.95 vs 2.9, P < 0.01, Valsalva: 1.30 vs 1.52 and Ewing test: 1.03 vs 1.14, P < 0.05). However, patients with moderate (BMI 31.7 kg/m2) or severe obesity (39.0 kg/m2) with identical insulin sensitivity had no significant difference in autonomic nerve function. Except for the Ewing test all measured parameters for the evaluation of cardiac autonomic nerve function correlated with the degree of diminished insulin sensitivity (REST 1: r = 0.475, P < 0.001). An Experimental Comparison of the Maintainability of Object-Oriented and Structured Design Documents

Several important questions still need to be answered regarding the maintainability of object-oriented design documents. This paper focuses on the following issues: are object-oriented design documents easier to understand and modify than structured design documents? Do they need to comply with quality guidelines such as the ones provided by Coad and Yourdon? What is the impact of such quality standards on the understandability and modifiability of design documents? Answers can be based on informed opinion or empirical evidence. Since software technology investments are substantial and contradictory opinions exist regarding design strategies, performing empirical studies on these topics is a relevant research activity. This paper presents a controlled experiment performed with computer science students as subjects. Results strongly suggest that quality guidelines based on Coad and Yourdon principles have a beneficial effect on the maintainability of object-oriented design documents. However, there is no strong evidence regarding the alleged higher maintainability of object-oriented design documents over structured design documents. Furthermore, results suggest that object-oriented design documents are more sensitive to poor design practices, in part because their cognitive complexity becomes increasingly unmanageable. However, because our ability to generalise these results is limited, they should be considered as preliminary, i.e., it is very likely that they can only be generalised to programmers with little object-oriented training and programming experience. Such programmers can, however, be commonly found on maintenance projects. SARS-CoV-2 variants raise concern because of their high transmissibility and their ability to evade neutralizing antibodies elicited by prior infection or by vaccination. Here, we compared the neutralizing abilities of sera from 70 unvaccinated COVID-19 patients infected before the emergence of variants of concern (VOCs) and of 16 vaccine breakthrough infection (BTI) cases infected with Gamma or Delta against the ancestral B.1 strain, the Gamma, Delta and Omicron BA.1 VOCs using live virus. We further determined antibody levels against the Nucleocapsid (N) and full Spike proteins, the receptor-binding domain (RBD) and the N-terminal domain (NTD) of the Spike protein. Convalescent sera featured considerable variability in the neutralization of B.1 and in the cross-neutralization of different strains. Their neutralizing capacity moderately correlated with antibody levels against the Spike protein and the RBD. All but one convalescent serum failed to neutralize Omicron BA.1. Overall, convalescent sera from patients with moderate disease had higher antibody levels and displayed a higher neutralizing ability against all strains than patients with mild or severe forms of the disease. The sera from BTI cases fell into one of two categories: half the sera had a high neutralizing activity against the ancestral B.1 strain as well as against the infecting strain, while the other half had no or a very low neutralizing activity against all strains. Although antibody levels against the spike protein and the RBD were lower in BTI sera than in unvaccinated convalescent sera, most neutralizing sera also retained partial neutralizing activity against Omicron BA.1, suggestive of a better cross-neutralization and higher affinity of vaccine-elicited antibodies over virus-induced antibodies. Accordingly, the IC50: antibody level ratios were comparable for BTI and convalescent sera, but remained lower in the neutralizing convalescent sera from patients with moderate disease than in BTI sera. The neutralizing activity of BTI sera was strongly correlated with antibodies against the Spike protein and the RBD. Together, these findings highlight qualitative differences in antibody responses elicited by infection in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. They further indicate that breakthrough infection with a pre-Omicron variant boosts immunity and induces cross-neutralizing antibodies against different strains, including Omicron BA.1. 相似文献

Synthesis of 2-Heterocyclidenamino-1, 3-diaza-trimethincyanines The synthesis of 2-[3-methyl-benzthiazol-(1, 3)-inylidene-(2)-amino]- and of substituted 2-[1, 3-dithiolyliden-(2)-amino]-1, 3-diaza-trimethincyanines is described. The heterocyclic imines 1 react with phosgene or thiophosgene to the corresponding ureas 2 and thiureas 3 , respectively. Alkylation of 3 to the 2-alkylmercapto-1, 3-diaza-trimethincyanines 4 and subsequent condensation with imine 1 yields the dyes 5 .
