In the present paper, we consider a one-parameter family of the nonself-adjoint operators, which are the dynamics generators for systems governed by the wave equations containing dissipative terms. The equations contain viscous damping terms and are equipped with the boundary conditions involving an arbitrary complex parameter. In the current engineering literature, this type of boundary condition is used to model the action of smart materials (self-sensing/self-straining actuators). In the previous research of the first writer, the aforementioned dynamics generators have been studied analytically and precise asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues have been derived (the asymptotic when the number of the eigenvalues tends to infinity). The goal of the present paper is to demonstrate that the analytic formulas are not only important theoretically, but also extremely efficient practically. Namely, we show that the leading terms in the asymptotic formulas approximate the actual eigenvalues with excellent accuracy. To justify the results, we use two methods, i.e., the Newton method and the Tchebychev method. First, Newton’s method is applied to the characteristic equation using asymptotic formulas as initial guesses to find the eigenvalues. The convergence of Newton’s method is improved by modifying the asymptotic formula. Second, we use Tchebychev discretization to circumvent the nonlinear characteristic equation and to obtain a finite-dimensional generalized eigenvalue problem that approximates the infinite-dimensional one. Finally, to solve the generalized eigenvalue problem, we use the QT algorithm.  相似文献

Metabolomics-based technologies map in vivo biochemical changes that may be used as early indicators of pathological abnormalities prior to the development of clinical symptoms in neurological conditions. Metabolomics may also reveal biochemical pathways implicated in tissue dysfunction and damage and thus assist in the development of novel targeted therapeutics for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. Metabolomics holds promise as a non-invasive, high-throughput and cost-effective tool for early diagnosis, follow-up and monitoring of treatment response in multiple sclerosis (MS), in combination with clinical and imaging measures. In this review, we offer evidence in support of the potential of metabolomics as a biomarker and drug discovery tool in MS. We also use pathway analysis of metabolites that are described as potential biomarkers in the literature of MS biofluids to identify the most promising molecules and upstream regulators, and show novel, still unexplored metabolic pathways, whose investigation may open novel avenues of research.  相似文献

Obesity is a complex disease caused by an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity is a medical problem and represents an important risk factor for the development of serious diseases such as insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some types of cancer. Not to be overlooked are the psychological issues that, in obese subjects, turn into very serious pathologies, such as depression, phobias, anxiety, and lack of self-esteem. In addition to modifying one’s lifestyle, the reduction of body mass can be promoted by different natural compounds such as essential oils (EOs). EOs are mixtures of aromatic substances produced by many plants, particularly in medicinal and aromatic ones. They are odorous and volatile and contain a mixture of terpenes, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and esters. Thanks to the characteristics of the various chemical components present in them, EOs are used in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical fields. Indeed, it has been shown that EOs possess great antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor powers. Emerging results also demonstrate the anti-obesity effects of EOs. We have examined the main data obtained in experimental studies and, in this review, we summarize the effect of EOs in obesity and obesity-related metabolic diseases.  相似文献

Post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) is characterized by persisting sequelae after infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). PCS can affect patients with all COVID-19 disease severities. As previous studies have revealed impaired blood flow as a provoking factor triggering PCS, it was the aim of the present study to investigate the potential association between self-reported chronic fatigue and retinal microcirculation in patients with PCS, potentially indicating an objective biomarker. A prospective study was performed, including 201 subjects: 173 patients with PCS and 28 controls. Retinal microcirculation was visualized by OCT angiography (OCT-A) and quantified using the Erlangen-Angio-Tool as macula and peripapillary vessel density (VD). Chronic fatigue (CF) was assessed according to the variables of Bell’s score, age and gender. VDs in the superficial vascular plexus (SVP), intermediate capillary plexus (ICP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP) were analyzed, considering the repetitions (12 times). Seropositivity for autoantibodies targeting G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR-AAbs) was determined by an established cardiomyocyte bioassay. Taking account of the repetitions, a mixed model was performed to detect possible differences in the least square means between the different groups included in the analysis. An age effect in relation to VD was observed between patients and controls (p < 0.0001). Gender analysis showed that women with PCS showed lower VD levels in the SVP compared to male patients (p = 0.0015). The PCS patients showed significantly lower VDs in the ICP as compared to the controls (p = 0.0001 (CI: 0.32; 1)). Moreover, considering PCS patients, the mixed model revealed a significant difference between those with chronic fatigue (CF) and those without CF with respect to VDs in the SVP (p = 0.0033 (CI: −4.5; −0.92)). The model included variables of age, gender and Bell’s score, representing a subjective marker for CF. Consequently, retinal microcirculation might serve as an objective biomarker in subjectively reported chronic fatigue in patients with PCS.  相似文献

On the basis of European Survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) data, this paper conducts a comparative analysis of housing conditions in different European countries by focusing on social class. The variance in housing conditions by social class could provide further insights about the divergence/convergence hypotheses stemming from the comparative analysis of living conditions of European countries. To support this claim, two main dimensions of housing inequality will be identified: tenure and housing well-being. A micro-level data analysis was performed, in order to take account of individual and family costs of access and maintenance of ownership in settings and in periods (such as the present day) of rising housing prices and income resources that decrease in terms of amount and stability. The aim is thus to demonstrate that, despite the difference in well-being in Europe between owners and non-owners (on the average the firsts are better off), homeowners cannot be regarded as a privileged category per se.  相似文献

Low-cost household digesters are a promising appropriate technology which can help reducing the pressure on the environment due to deforestation and greenhouse gases emissions. The biogas and biofertilizer produced can alleviate poverty, by improving health conditions, increasing crops productivity and saving working time and burden for women and children. The aim of this study is to evaluate low-cost digesters technical, environmental and socio-economic impacts in rural communities of the Peruvian Andes, where a pilot project was developed during the last 3 years. Although the benefits are restricted by the performance of anaerobic digestion at high altitude, the results show that the digesters improve household living conditions and economy, while reducing environmental impacts. Biogas production covers around 60% of fuel needs for cooking, leading to 50-60% decrease in firewood consumption (i.e. deforestation) and greenhouse gases emissions; the annual income is increased by 3-5.5% due to fertilizer savings and potato sales. These values could be improved by enhancing digesters performance and the sustainability of the technology.  相似文献

The coupling of normal phase and reversed phase liquid chromatography (NP-LC × RP-LC) is one of the most effective ways to increase orthogonality in two-dimensional comprehensive separations, being the two retention mechanisms truly independent. However, such coupling is not straightforward to implement, due to immiscibility of the mobile phases, poor peak focusing at the head of the secondary column (2D), signal interferences and peak deterioration. In this research, supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) was used in the first dimension (1D), coupled to ultra high pressure LC (UHPLC), to alleviate incompatibility issues and provide a number of advantages related to the use of supercritical CO2. An on-line SFC × RP-UHPLC system was implemented in an automated fashion, around two 2-position, six-port switching valves equipped with octadecyl silica cartridges for effective trapping and focusing of the analytes eluted from 1D. A water make-up flow added to the SFC effluent permitted to efficiently focus the solutes on the sorbent material and to reduce interferences of the expanded CO2 on the 2D separation. In addition to photodiode array and quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry detection, ion mobility separation based on analyte mass, shape and size added a fourth separation dimension for carotenoid fingerprinting in a red chilli pepper sample.  相似文献
