Organic thin-film transistors using the fused-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon pentacene as the active electronic material have shown mobility as large as 0.7 cm2/V-s and on/off current ratio larger than 108; both values are comparable to hydrogenated amorphous silicon devices. On the other hand, these and most other organic TFT's have an undesirably large subthreshold slope. We show here that the large subthreshold slope typically observed is not an intrinsic property of the organic semiconducting material and that devices with subthreshold slope similar to amorphous silicon devices are possible 相似文献

Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), calorimetry, and temperature measurements were used to monitor cylindrical potato sections frozen at -11C and -42C. MRI showed the advance of the nonsymmetric freezing zone and loss of signal intensity as liquid water turned to ice. Differential calorimetry was used to follow heat removal during transient freezing. Measured times to 95% enthalpy change were 24 min (-42C) and 49 min (-11C), as compared to modeled values of 29 min (-42C) and 100 min (-11C). Times to 95% change in the NMR signal, integrated over the area of the image, were 21 min (-42C) and 56 min (-11C). Changes in NMR signal intensity could be correlated with the amount of unfrozen water remaining after a steady-state had been reached. At -42C, NMR indicated 25% unfrozen water remaining as compared to 26% by calorimetry, and 22% by modeling. At -11C, NMR measured 67% unfrozen water remaining as compared to 48% by calorimetry, and 25% by equilibrium modeling. 相似文献

The present study proposes a detection technique for delaminations in a laminated beam. The proposed technique optimizes the spatial distribution of harmonic excitation so as to magnify the difference in response between the delaminated and intact beam. The geo-electrical measuring technique is frequently used for restoration purposes. However, this technique as developed in geology cannot be used without adaptations. The structure that is analysed has geometrical boundaries which influence the measurements and can lead to errors in the interpretation if they are not taken into account. Awareness of fast transient events in the electrical power environment has increased with the release of related test standards (ANSI C37.90.1 and IEC 801-4) and with increased usage of solid state circuits in utility equipment. Reliable measurement of the fast transient test waveforms and repeatable performance of test setups are persistent problems for equipment manufacturers and users. There is a need for developing low cost, easily and abundantly available, yet efficient, adsorbents for the removal of phosphates during the tertiary treatment of wastewaters. The tamarind nut shell activated carbon (TNSAC) prepared on a laboratory scale has been used to evaluate its performance for phosphate adsorption. This paper describes the laboratory production of this adsorbent material in its various forms, and discusses the effects of the TNSAC process variables (the unrinsed and rinsed forms of the TNSAC and the impregnation ratio) on its performance in adsorbing phosphate. The material has been shown to be a good alternative adsorbent. As much as 95% phosphate removal by the unrinsed TNSAC is possible in about 30 min under the test conditions. The phosphate adsorbing capacity is about two times higher for the unrinsed TNSAC in comparison to the rinsed TNSAC. The adsorption rates, however, transit to extremely low rates towards the end when equilibrium conditions could be attained in about 2 h contact time. The phosphate removal mechanics are adsorption and precipitation/ion exchange when unrinsed TNSAC is used, and adsorption alone for the rinsed TNSAC. The maximum phosphate removal is found to take place at an impregnation ratio of 1.0 for both forms of the TNSAC. 相似文献

Dendritic cells (CD) are the most efficient antigen presenting cells for T lymphocytes. CD1a+ CD14- CD with high antigen-presenting capacities can now be obtained easily from adherent peripheral blood monocytes by culture in the presence of granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor and interleukin-4 (Sallusto et al., J. Exp. Med. 1994. 179: 1109). Human macrophages express a membrane lectin, or sugar-specific receptor, which specifically mediates the binding and endocytosis of mannose- and fucose-terminated glycoproteins and is involved in the phagocytosis of pathogens. A similar lectin activity was sought on cultured human DC using flow cytometry and confocal microscopy to detect binding and internalization of fluoresceinated neoglycoproteins [bovine serum albumin (BSA) substituted with sugar residues]. Several neoglycoproteins, especially alpha-L-fucosyl-, alpha-D-mannosyl-, N,N'-di-acetyl-beta-chitobiosyl- and beta-D-glucosyl-BSA, were endocytosed by cultured human CD1a+ DC as well as by CD1a- CD14- cells which were also obtained in the culture. Fuc-BSA and Man-BSA had the same number of binding sites (1.7 x 10(6)/cell) on CD1a+ DC, and bound with an affinity constant close to 10(7) 1/mol. Inhibition experiments indicated that these two neoglycoproteins bound to the same membrane lectin. CD1a+ and CD1a- cells were both labeled by an antiserum specific for the human macrophage mannose receptor. The membrane lectin specific for mannose and fucose that is evidenced in these experiments on cultured DC may be similar to the macrophage membrane lectin or may share functional and structural properties with it. 相似文献

ESTs or 'expressed sequence tags' are DNA sequences read from both ends of expressed gene fragments. The Merck-WashU EST Project and several other public EST projects are being performed to rapidly discover the complement of human genes, and make them easily accessible. These ESTs are widely used to discover novel members of gene families, to map genes to chromosomes as 'sequence-tagged sites' (STSs), and to identify mutations leading to heritable diseases. Informatic strategies for querying the EST databases are discussed, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the EST data.
