In this work, the electrochemical behavior of nonredox-active poly-L-lysine dendrigraft molecules of four different generations was investigated at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES). The influence of the dendrigraft generation on the electrochemical response, sensitivity of the calibration curves, and limit of detection was studied. Cyclic voltammetry at the ITIES revealed that the sensitivity increased (1840 to 25?800 nA μM(-1)) and the limit of detection decreased (11.10 to 0.65 μM) as the dendrigraft generation increased from generation G2 through to generation G5, respectively. The results are compared to those for protein voltammetry at the ITIES. Our studies suggest that the sensitivity expected for a synthetic ionized macromolecule can be predicted on the basis of its net charge and its diffusion coefficient. However, electrochemistry at the ITIES demonstrates a greater sensitivity toward proteins, which is attributed to their tertiary structure.  相似文献

It is commonly accepted that the addition of spherical nanoparticles (NPs) cannot simultaneously improve the elastic modulus, the yield stress, and the ductility of an amorphous glassy polymer matrix. In contrast to this conventional wisdom, we show that ductility can be substantially increased, while maintaining gains in the elastic modulus and yield stress, in glassy nanocomposite films composed of spherical silica NPs grafted with polystyrene (PS) chains in a PS matrix. The key to these improvements are (i) uniform NP spatial dispersion and (ii) strong interfacial binding between NPs and the matrix, by making the grafted chains sufficiently long relative to the matrix. Strikingly, the optimal conditions for the mechanical reinforcement of the same nanocomposite material in the melt state is completely different, requiring the presence of spatially extended NP clusters. Evidently, NP spatial dispersions that optimize material properties are crucially sensitive to the state (melt versus glass) of the polymeric material.  相似文献

SrLi2Ti6O14 has been prepared by using mesoporous TiO2 brookite as a template and reactant. The prepared particles retained the rounded shape of the precursor, leading to high dispersivity and high packing density. The material has been further electrochemically characterized in both half and full cells. It shows good cycling stability and rate capability. A 2.7-V cell has been built by combining a SrLi2Ti6O14 anode with a 4-V spinel cathode of LiMn2O4. This cell has a higher voltage compared to the 2.5-V LiMn2O4/Li4Ti5O12 system.  相似文献

The promotion and use of renewable energy sources are established priorities worldwide as a way to reduce emissions of Greenhouse Gases and promote energy security. Australia is committed to reach a target of 350 ML of biofuels per year by 2010, and incentives targeted to producers and consumers have been placed. These incentives include zero excise until 2011 for the ethanol produced in Australia and gradual increase of the taxation rates reaching the full excise of 0.125 AUD per litre by 2015. This paper analyses the viability of the second generation ethanol industry in the Green Triangle, one of the most promising Australian regions for biomass production, by comparing the energy adjusted pump prices of petrol and the produced ethanol under different taxation rates and forecasted oil prices. Major findings suggest that under the current conditions of zero fuel excise and oil prices around 80US$ per barrel ethanol production is viable using biomass with a plant gate cost of up to 74 AUD per ton. Moreover, the forecasted increase in oil prices have a higher impact on the price of petrol than the increased ethanol excise on the pump price of the biofuel. Thus, by 2016 feedstock with a plant gate cost of up to 190 AUD per ton might be used for ethanol production, representing a flow of 1.7 million tons of biomass per year potentially mitigating 1.2 million tons of CO2 by replacing fossil fuels with ethanol.  相似文献

Abstract

Approximately two-thirds of patients survive following a cerebral vascular accident (stroke), nevertheless about half are left with a physical incapacity. The clinical picture is frequently a combination of motor, sensory, visual and cognitive deficits. Mechanically, the use of ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) appear a good option. The objective of this study was to quantify the impact of the AFO on patients having a deficit of dorsi-flexion during gait in the aim to improve their daily lives. Different biomechanical variables were analysed such as parameters of Balance in static position and spatio-temporal (ST) ones in dynamics. Seven patients were enrolled in this study (53.57 ± 16.17 years old, 1.80 ± 0.07 m height and 89 ± 15.06 kg body mass). The pressure force plate used in this experimentation aimed to measure the patients’ behaviors with and without AFO. The results showed a significant impact of AFO in terms of ST analysis (p < 0.05). These results can be related to the fact that the orthosis supports the foot during walking and propels the step during the initial swing phase. In posturography, the results showed that patients increased their balance by using AFO (p < 0.05). This result permits the patients a better expansion of their movements during gait after an immediate benefit.  相似文献

In this paper, we report a methodology, developed in the context of Smart Energy Efficient Middleware for Public Spaces European Project, aimed at exploiting ICT monitoring and control services to reduce energy usage and CO2 footprint in existing buildings. The approach does not require significant construction work as it is based on commercial-off-the-shelf devices and, where present, it exploits and integrates existing building management systems with new sensors and actuator networks. To make this possible, the proposed approach leverages upon the following main contributions: (a) to develop an integrated building automation and control system, (b) to implement a middleware for the energy-efficient buildings domain, (c) to provide a multi-dimensional building information modelling-based visualisation, and (d) to raise people’s awareness about energy efficiency. The research approach adopted in the project started with the selection, as case studies, of representative test and reference rooms in modern and historical buildings chosen for having different requirements and constraints in term of sensing and control technologies. Then, according to the features of the selected rooms, the strategies to reduce the energy consumptions were defined, taking into account the potential savings related to lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and other device loads (PC, printers, etc.). The strategies include both the control of building services and devices and the monitoring of environmental conditions and energy consumption. In the paper, the energy savings estimated through simulation, for both HVAC and lighting, are presented to highlight the potential of the designed system. After the implementation of the system in the demonstrator, results will be compared with the monitored data.  相似文献

A core-annulus multicompartment two-dimensional two-bubble class model accounting for slurry recirculation and coupled with catalyst transport was developed as a part and parcel of the analysis of the behavior of slurry bubble column reactors at high gas throughputs corresponding to the churn turbulent flow regime. The model analyzed the contributions of bubble-induced turbulence closures, bubble coalescence and breakup phenomena, and catalyst axial distribution as the resultant of sedimentation, advection via liquid-solid slip, per-compartment axial dispersion and core-annulus lateral exchange of catalyst by bubble-induced turbulence. The model was also used to analyze the effects of catalyst loading, gas density and superficial velocity, and column diameter and vessel aspect ratio on the hydrodynamics of slurry bubble column reactors, namely, the per-compartment phase holdups and interstitial velocities, pressure gradient, bubble coalescence and break-up rates, and loci of velocity inversion for the gas and slurry profiles.  相似文献

Numerous efforts have been devoted to investigating crash occurrence as related to roadway design features, environmental factors and traffic conditions. However, most of the research has relied on univariate count models; that is, traffic crash counts at different levels of severity are estimated separately, which may neglect shared information in unobserved error terms, reduce efficiency in parameter estimates, and lead to potential biases in sample databases. This paper offers a multivariate Poisson-lognormal (MVPLN) specification that simultaneously models crash counts by injury severity. The MVPLN specification allows for a more general correlation structure as well as overdispersion. This approach addresses several questions that are difficult to answer when estimating crash counts separately. Thanks to recent advances in crash modeling and Bayesian statistics, parameter estimation is done within the Bayesian paradigm, using a Gibbs Sampler and the Metropolis–Hastings (M–H) algorithms for crashes on Washington State rural two-lane highways. Estimation results from the MVPLN approach show statistically significant correlations between crash counts at different levels of injury severity. The non-zero diagonal elements suggest overdispersion in crash counts at all levels of severity. The results lend themselves to several recommendations for highway safety treatments and design policies. For example, wide lanes and shoulders are key for reducing crash frequencies, as are longer vertical curves.  相似文献

The detection of peptides is an important bioanalytical challenge, as they are a generic class of potent molecules of biomedical and biopharmaceutical significance. In this work, the electrochemistry of seven oligopeptides at microscaled interfaces between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (microITIES) was investigated. Their transfer across the polarized interface was assisted by dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6). The ion transfer potentials of these oligopeptides were dependent on their hydrophobicities and their interaction with DB18C6. Micropore arrays, which were fabricated in silicon by a combination of wet and dry etch techniques, were used to enhance mass transfer and thus analytical sensitivities. The use of a gellified organic phase allowed the implementation of voltammetric stripping techniques at the liquid-organogel interface. The combination of interface miniaturization and stripping voltammetry provided limits of detection at submicromolar concentration levels. The sensitivities (calibration graph slopes) were -3205 nA microM(-1) cm(-2) for Phe-Phe, -1791 nA microM(-1) cm(-2) for Leu-Leu, -6014 nA microM(-1) cm(-2) for Lys-Lys, and -9611 nA microM(-1) cm(-2) for Lys-Lys-Lys. Mixtures of peptides were also investigated with this technique, illustrating the possibility to detect certain mixture combinations.  相似文献
