A simple analytical method is proposed that allows a preliminary evaluation of the overall efficiency of a detention basin system for flood risk reduction in a specific target section. Solutions are provided both for parallel and series systems, under some simplifying assumptions concerning the linearity of detention basin, river network and watershed responses. Further, for the series configuration a regressive model is proposed for the computation of the overall efficiency, because of the complexity of analytical solution. A case study is also presented, where the overall efficiency of a system of nine detention basins is computed by means of both the analytical and the regressive model. Results are discussed to assess the different influence of detention basins in parallel or in a series system. 相似文献

In this paper we present and evaluate ContentPlace, a data dissemination system for opportunistic networks, i.e., mobile networks in which stable simultaneous multi-hop paths between communication endpoints cannot be provided. We consider a scenario in which users both produce and consume data objects. ContentPlace takes care of moving and replicating data objects in the network such that interested users receive them despite possible long disconnections, partitions, etc. Thanks to ContentPlace, data producers and consumers are completely decoupled, and might be never connected to the network at the same point in time. The key feature of ContentPlace is learning and exploiting information about the social behaviour of the users to drive the data dissemination process. This allows ContentPlace to be more efficient both in terms of data delivery and in terms of resource usage with respect to reference alternative solutions. Widespread trends of abandonment have strongly affected Mediterranean mountains after the Second World War, triggering spontaneous recolonisation of forests. A diachronic analysis of the landscape in a Natura 2000 site (Tuscany, Italy) was carried out using digital aerial photographs (1954, 2013) and a GIS-based methodology, focusing on territories above 1300 m a.s.l. The detected variations of total areas, patch shape, patch dimensions and selected metrics showed a notable shift of the vegetation towards woody types and a drastic reduction of open grasslands, some with high conservation value, accompanied by a strong increase in patch number, surface and edge. A decrease of SDI and SEI diversity indices was also observed. Considering that fragmentation is one of the main causes threatening habitats and species, our results point out a clear necessity for a monitoring programme and suitable actions aimed at improving the status of biodiversity-rich montane grasslands. 相似文献

In this work, we introduce a framework for enabling the on-line evolution of network protocols. The proposed approach is based on the use of techniques and tools drawn from evolutionary computing research, and it enables embedding evolutionary features in the operation of network protocols. In this way, it becomes possible to build a system in which the operation of the network changes at run-time to adapt to the current conditions. As a case study, we apply the proposed framework to the evolution of forwarding schemes in intermittently connected wireless networks. Simulation results are reported to validate the ability of the proposed scheme to converge to the optimal operating point and to explore the various trade-offs deriving from its design and implementation. 相似文献

Heated oils may contain potentially toxic altered compounds. A denatured carob fiber, very rich in non-extractable tannins (Exxenterol®), exhibits antioxidant activities in in vitro experiments. The present study was designed to evaluate in sunflower oil (SO) heated to frying temperature, the protective effect on oil thermal oxidation and polymerization of adding 10 mg Exxenterol/kg oil (SO-10) and 50 mg Exxenterol/kg oil (SO-50). After 2, 8 and 16 h at 180 °C, SO displayed a relevant increase in triacylglycerol-derived polar material (PM) and polymer contents and a decrease in α-tocopherol concentrations. Thermal oxidation changes were significantly checked in SO-50 throughout the 16-h heating, while SO-10 only displayed protection from thermal oxidation during the first 2 h of heating. Oil frying-life was doubled because formation of PM and polymers was inhibited by more than 50%. Results clearly show that this non-extractable tannin-rich fiber can be successfully employed as an additive to significantly prolong sunflower oil frying-life, and thus decrease the potential toxicity of the heated oil. 相似文献

Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) compensation has been a matter of investigation of several papers in literature. The proposed solutions belong basically to two large families: electronic compensators and optical compensators. Both PMD compensator schemes have advantages and disadvantages: electronic PMD compensators are usually simple to include in line-terminal, potentially low-cost, very fast, and FEC compatible but their development is strongly dependent on IC technology capability that at this time allows device developments up to the 10 Gbit/s bit rates area. Furthermore, they are strongly dependent on modulation formats, and they can operate only on a single channel. Conversely, optical compensators are independent of bit rate and modulation format and potentially they can compensate more channels simultaneously; their major drawbacks are the longer response time and the complexity in the feedback signal process within the control algorithm. In this paper we consider an optical Polarization Mode Dispersion Compensator (PMDC) that is simple to realize and easy to include at limited costs in each EDFA module (distributed compensation) as well as a single-stage front-end compensator. Numerical analysis of the PMDC and experimental results confirm the utility of the PMDC proposed and its capability in compensating DGD larger than 20 ps in NRZ and RZ 40 Gbit/s optical systems. 相似文献
