We have investigated five types of atmospheric optical-turbulence inner scales for their effects on normalized laser irradiance variance in the Rytov and early saturation regimes: (1) zero inner scale, (2) Gaussian inner scale, (3) Hill's viscous-convective enhancement inner scale, (4) Frehlich's parameterization of the viscous-convective enhancement, and (5) turbulence spectrum truncation because of the discrete grid representation. Wave-optics computer simulations yielded normalized irradiance variances within 2% of the results from numerical integrations of the Rytov-Tatarskii predictions. In the Rytov regime a Gaussian inner scale reduces the normalized irradiance variance compared with the zero-innerscale case, and the viscous-convective inner scale first raises, then lowers the irradiance variance as the inner-scale size increases. In the saturation regime all inner-scale models increase the intensity variance for a spherical wave. 相似文献

Remote-sensing reflectance is easier to interpret for the open ocean than for coastal regions because the optical signals are highly coupled to the phytoplankton (e.g., chlorophyll) concentrations. For estuarine or coastal waters, variable terrigenous colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM), suspended sediments, and bottom reflectance, all factors that do not covary with the pigment concentration, confound data interpretation. In this research, remote-sensing reflectance models are suggested for coastal waters, to which contributions that are due to bottom reflectance, CDOM fluorescence, and water Raman scattering are included. Through the use of two parameters to model the combination of the backscattering coefficient and the Q factor, excellent agreement was achieved between the measured and modeled remote-sensing reflectance for waters from the West Florida Shelf to the Mississippi River plume. These waters cover a range of chlorophyll of 0.2-40 mg/m(3) and gelbstoff absorption at 440 nm from 0.02-0.4 m(-1). Data with a spectral resolution of 10 nm or better, which is consistent with that provided by the airborne visible and infrared imaging spectrometer (AVIRIS) and spacecraft spectrometers, were used in the model evaluation. 相似文献

Ten patients (14 knees) with severe knee flexion contractures were treated by gradual mechanical distraction using either the Ilizarov or Orthofix external fixator. Range of motion improved from an average flexion contracture of 60 degrees before surgery to 16 degrees at the follow-up evaluation. Range of motion results were graded good or excellent in five knees, fair in two knees, and poor in three knees. Average total arc of motion remained essentially unchanged when comparing the preoperative (59 degrees) with the follow-up results (63 degrees). However, the functional position of this arc improved significantly. Problems encountered included a "rebound" phenomena after frame removal, with loss of the temporarily increased total arc of motion. OBJECTIVE: To determine if antenatal vitamin K and phenobarbital therapy affect coagulation studies in umbilical blood at birth, and to provide 95% reference ranges for umbilical blood coagulation parameters in premature gestations. METHODS: Patients at imminent risk for spontaneous or indicated premature delivery less than 34 weeks' gestation were randomized to receive either placebo or vitamin K and phenobarbital. Prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (PTT), functional coagulation factors, and decarboxylated prothrombin assays were performed on umbilical blood specimens. Decarboxylated prothrombin, also known as "protein induced by vitamin K absence-factor II" or precursor prothrombin, is a sensitive marker for vitamin K deficiency. Standardized values of PT and PTT are reported in seconds and standardized values of factor assays in percentage of normal adult functional activity (mean +/- one standard deviation). RESULTS: Newborns in the placebo and treatment groups had similar umbilical blood PT (12.6 +/- 1.2 versus 12.7 +/- 1.4 seconds), PTT (48.8 +/- 13.4 versus 49.6 +/- 13.8 seconds), and functional activity of factor II (40.3 +/- 12.5 versus 42.0 +/- 12.1%), factor VII (67.0 +/- 20.9 versus 66.8 +/- 18.9%), factor IX (27.4 +/- 12.8 versus 25.8 +/- 8.9%), and factor X (47.0 +/- 12.8 versus 49.2 +/- 11.6%). Newborns in the treatment group were about half as likely as those in the placebo group to have detectable decarboxylated prothrombin levels in umbilical blood at birth (gestational age-adjusted odds ratio 0.47, 95% confidence interval 0.22-1.01; P = .05). CONCLUSIONS: Combined maternal therapy with vitamin K and phenobarbital before premature delivery does not affect umbilical blood PT, PTT, or functional activity of vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X. However, it is associated with the reduced presence of decarboxylated prothrombin in umbilical blood at birth. 1. The descending pathways that mediate the periaqueductal gray (PAG)-evoked coordination of respiratory, laryngeal, and orofacial activity for vocalization have yet to be delineated. Two hypotheses have been offered. One theory is that this activity is mediated by a diffuse descending projection to parvocellular reticular interneurons, adjacent to the relevant laryngeal and orofacial motoneuronal pools. The second hypothesis is that the motor activity for vocalization is integrated via a projection from the PAG to a caudal medullary column of neurons, the nucleus retroambigualis (NRA). These hypotheses were tested with the use of a series of medullary transections combined with PAG stimulation. Transections that eliminated, in a series of caudal-to-rostral steps, the NRA, also eliminated the PAG-evoked cricothyroid and most of the thyroarytenoid laryngeal motor activity. These results indicate that the final common pathway for much of the laryngeal activity in PAG-evoked vocalization includes un initial synapse in the caudal medulla, presumably in the NRA. 2. The electromyographic changes evoked by microinjection of D,L-homocysteic acid (DLH) in the NRA of the unanesthetized, precollicular decerebrate cat were analyzed in order to delineate the NRA contribution to the coordinated respiratory, laryngeal, and oral muscle changes in vocalization. A total of 415 DLH injection sites were located at or caudal to the level of the obex. Vocalization was evoked at 46 of these sites, which were all confined to a restricted region of the ventrolateral medulla 1-3 mm caudal to the obex. This region corresponded to the rostral half of the NRA and the immediately adjacent medullary tegmentum. 3. In all experiments evidence was obtained that variable muscle activation, rather than functional and integrated muscle patterns, was represented within the NRA. Vocalization evoked by DLH microinjection in the NRA was usually associated with excitation of the cricothyroid, thyroarytenoid, external oblique, internal oblique, internal intercostal, and diaphragm muscles that occurred in a different manner from site to site. That is, injection at sites separated by 0.3-0.5 mm evoked quite different responses. 4. NRA-evoked vocalization was compared with PAG-evoked vocalization using small injections (1.5-4.5 nl) into each region. As well, larger microinjections (15-120 nl) into NRA were made for comparison with previous results from the PAG using similar doses. Within the PAG, stereotyped and relatively "fixed" patterns of muscle activity are represented, whereas within the NRA there was no representation of specific muscle patterns, but rather a partial topographic separation of "premotor neurons" regulating different muscles. Correspondingly, stereotyped vocalizations were never evoked from the NRA. Further, most NRA-evoked vocalizations were unusual in quality and would not be identified generally as feline. 5. Evidence was obtained for a separation of pathways from the PAG regulating sound production and orofacial modulation of that sound. In contrast to the results from the PAG, excitation of NRA neurons rarely evoked activity in the oral muscles (genioglossus or anterior belly of digastric) or orofacial modulation of sound production. 6. Our finding suggests that the NRA serves as an important substrate for the generation of respiratory pressure and larynges adduction, which are two essential aspects of not only vocalization but also several behaviors involving Valsava maneuvers such as coughing, vomiting, and defecation. 相似文献

Functional nanoparticles comprised of liquid metals, such as eutectic gallium indium (EGaIn) and Galinstan, present exciting opportunities in the fields of flexible electronics, sensors, catalysts, and drug delivery systems. Methods used currently for producing liquid metal nanoparticles have significant disadvantages as they rely on both bulky and expensive high‐power sonication probe systems, and also generally require the use of small molecules bearing thiol groups to stabilize the nanoparticles. Herein, an innovative microfluidics‐enabled platform is described as an inexpensive, easily accessible method for the on‐chip mass production of EGaIn nanoparticles with tunable size distributions in an aqueous medium. A novel nanoparticle‐stabilization approach is reported using brushed polyethylene glycol chains with trithiocarbonate end‐groups negating the requirements for thiol additives while imparting a “stealth” surface layer. Furthermore, a surface modification of the nanoparticles is demonstrated using galvanic replacement and conjugation with antibodies. It is envisioned that the demonstrated microfluidic technique can be used as an economic and versatile platform for the rapid production of liquid metal‐based nanoparticles for a range of biomedical applications. 相似文献
