The incidence of degenerative diseases and the ageing population have added to the growing demand for bone grafts. Although autologous bone continues to be the gold standard, limited yield and potential morbidity of the donor site pose considerable challenges. Currently, clinically used synthetic grafts based on calcium phosphates are mechanically brittle and not compliant hence composite scaffolds are expected to be provide viable solutions. In this study we report composites of calcium meta phosphate-poly (vinyl alcohol) with tunable mechanical properties, low swelling and excellent biocompatibility. The elastomeric nature of the composites resist brittle fracture and the scaffolds can be easily shaped to the bone defect by the surgeon. Testing on bone plug shaped specimens of the scaffolds, exhibited superior mechanical properties compared to currently commercially available bone plugs with additional advantages being the ability to increase porosity without compromising properties in compression and degree of swelling, which make these composites promising synthetic alternatives for bone grafts and bone tissue engineering.  相似文献

Copper sulfide (CuS) rod shaped nanostructures with an average length 8 to 10 nm are synthesized through green chemical route using biodegradable starch as a capping agent under a nitrogen environment. Owing to the presence of a large number of glucose units linked by glycosidic bonds, starch can cap copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles. The preparation of CuS under nitrogen atmosphere produces fine quality CuS nanostructures by minimizing oxidation. XRD pattern reveals pure hexagonal covellite type CuS nanostructure with prime diffraction planes along (101), (102), (103), (006), (008), and (110) directions. The lattice parameters estimated as a?=?3.790 Å and c?=?16.51 Å. HRTEM studies show a well distribution of CuS nanorods. It shows prominent d-value of 0.28 nm corresponding to (103) hexagonal plane of CuS. The optical absorption extended up to 364 nm which is fairly blue shifted over bulk owing to the quantum confinement brought by starch. The photoluminescence emission is observed at 525 nm. The IV measurements in planar geometry exhibit the linearity that reveals the ohmic behavior of carrier transport in CuS nanostructures. CuS nanostructures have been successfully used as effective p-type layer to fabricate sandwiched heterojunction devices with zinc chalcogenides (ZnO/ZnS and ZnS/ZnO) core/shell nanocomposites. The p-CuS/n-(zinc chalcogenides) heterojunction devices show good diode characteristics with an increase of ideality factor that may be attributed to surface defects and inhomogeneity in the barrier height. The photodetector also exhibits promising characteristics in terms of responsivity and quantum efficiency which are significant corresponding to material properties.

Power and delay aware cloud service provisioning to mobile devices has become a promising domain today. This paper proposes and implements a cooperative offloading approach for indoor mobile cloud network. In the proposed work mobile devices register under femtolet which is a home base station with computation and data storage facilities. The resources of the mobile devices are collaborated in such a way that different mobile devices can execute different types of computations based on cooperative federation. The proposed offloading scheme is referred as cooperative code offloading in femtolet-based fog network. If none of the mobile device can execute the requested computation, then femtolet executes the computation. Use of femtolet provides the mobile devices voice call service as well as cloud service access. Femtolet is used as the fog device in our approach. The proposed model is simulated using Qualnet version 7. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme minimizes the energy by 15% and average delay up to 12% approximately than the existing scheme. A site-directed mutation, F235C, was created at the penultimateresidue of the -repressor. Measurement of dimer–monomerdissociation constant suggested that dimer–monomer dissociationof the mutant repressor is similar to that of the wild-type.Affinity towards a single operator OR1 is also similar to thatof the wild-type repressor. The mutant repressor gene in a multi-copyplasmid confers immunity towards infection by a cI- lambda phage,suggesting preservation of functional integrity. Far-UV circulardichroism spectra show no major change in the secondary structure.Fluorescence quenching experiments, however, suggest increasedexposure of some tryptophan residues. The urea denaturationprofile indicates decreased stability of a part of the C-terminaldomain. Under non-denaturing conditions, cysteine-235 showshalf-of-the-sites reactivity, i.e. on average only one out oftwo cysteine-235 residues in the dimer shows reactivity towardssulfhydryl reagents. Fluorescence energy transfer between randomlylabeled donor and acceptor fluorescent probes indicates thatonly one sulfhydryl per dimer is reactive, suggesting true half-of-the-sitesreactivity. The structural role of the C-terminal tail in thewhole repressor dimer is discussed.  相似文献

Sequential interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) based on nitrile rubber and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were synthesized. IPN compositions were varied by varying the swelling time. Two methods were adopted for making IPNs. The first method is “single‐step IPN” (SIPN) and the second method is “multistep IPN” (MIPN). The compositions were fixed around 90, 80, 70, 60 and 50% of NBR. In SIPN mode, swelling in monomer and subsequent curing was done once. In MIPN mode, swelling in monomer and curing was repeatedly done. Tensile strength of IPNs was found to increase with PMMA content, MIPN showing higher strength compared to SIPN. Dynamic modulus showed a similar trend. The tan δ value was found to decrease with PMMA content. At 62/38 nitrile rubber (NBR)/PMMA, MIPN composition isolated tan δ peaks appeared near glass transition temperatures of NBR and PMMA, respectively. Scanning electron micrograph showed phase‐separated morphology at the same MIPN composition.
