An investigation was carried out to modify the toughness of triethylene tetramine cured DGEBA (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A) resin using solid amine terminated poly (ethylene glycol) benzoate (ATPEGB) as modifier with and without red mud waste particles. The solid ATPEGB modifier synthesized from the acid catalyzed esterification reaction of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) and 4-amino benzoic acid was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and ^1H-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopies, viscosity measurements, and solubility parameter calculation. The unfilled and red mud waste filled modified epoxy networks were evaluated with impact, adhesive, tensile, flexural and thermal properties by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric (TG) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The effect of modifier concentration and red mud waste particles on toughening behavior was also investigated. The optimum properties were obtained at 12.5 phr (parts per hundred parts of resin) concentration of the modifier. The ATPEGB modified cured epoxy was thermally stable up to 315℃. The morphology on fracture surfaces of cured epoxy was also analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).  相似文献

Abstract

In the present work, the effect of high-energy ball milling (HEBM) of starting precursors of hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2)/HA system on the processing temperature, morphological, mechanical, and electrical properties are highlighted. Calcination and sintering of HA system were carried out in microwave furnace. XRD study confirmed the evolution of HA phase and EDX analysis confirmed Ca/P ratio ~1.65. Grain size of HA samples, synthesized by using microwave-assisted HEBM technique was found to be in the order of 54–75?nm. Enhanced dielectric and mechanical properties were obtained in HA samples.  相似文献

Efforts to adapt and extend graphic arts printing techniques for demanding device applications in electronics, biotechnology and microelectromechanical systems have grown rapidly in recent years. Here, we describe the use of electrohydrodynamically induced fluid flows through fine microcapillary nozzles for jet printing of patterns and functional devices with submicrometre resolution. Key aspects of the physics of this approach, which has some features in common with related but comparatively low-resolution techniques for graphic arts, are revealed through direct high-speed imaging of the droplet formation processes. Printing of complex patterns of inks, ranging from insulating and conducting polymers, to solution suspensions of silicon nanoparticles and rods, to single-walled carbon nanotubes, using integrated computer-controlled printer systems illustrates some of the capabilities. High-resolution printed metal interconnects, electrodes and probing pads for representative circuit patterns and functional transistors with critical dimensions as small as 1 mum demonstrate potential applications in printed electronics.  相似文献

Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs are known regulators of gene expression and genomic stability in cell growth, development, and differentiation. Because epigenetic mechanisms can regulate several immune system elements, epigenetic alterations have been found in several autoimmune diseases. The purpose of this review is to discuss the epigenetic modifications, mainly DNA methylation, involved in autoimmune diseases in which T cells play a significant role. For example, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus display differential gene methylation, mostly hypomethylated 5′-C-phosphate-G-3′ (CpG) sites that may associate with disease activity. However, a clear association between DNA methylation, gene expression, and disease pathogenesis must be demonstrated. A better understanding of the impact of epigenetic modifications on the onset of autoimmunity will contribute to the design of novel therapeutic approaches for these diseases.  相似文献

The role of persulfate-induced graft copolymerization of mixtures of acrylamide and methyl methacrylate at 50°C in modifying mechanical properties of jute fibers of different compositions was studied in a limited aqueous system following a pretreatment technique. Results obtained indicate that such a process admits a good scope for modification of mechanical properties of jute fiber depending on degree of grafting achieved and compositional variations of (1) the feed monomer mixture and (2) the multiconstituent jute itself, consequent to selective removal of lignin and hemicellulose to different extents from the fiber. Low to moderate removal of hemicellulose is more effective than a similar degree of removal of lignin from jute in rendering the fiber more amenable to vinyl grafting using the mixed monomer system without being adversely affected with respect to tensile properties. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The current study evaluated the impact of octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA)‐esterified pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) starch as a fat replacer (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0%) on various characteristics of reduced‐fat yoghurt (1.5% fat). Firmness, flow point, storage and loss modulus increased with increasing levels of the OSA starch. The Herschel–Bulkley model was best fit for elucidating their pseudoplastic behaviour. Syneresis decreased considerably, whereas sensory acceptability improved with increasing OSA starch level. Owing to this reduced syneresis, improved structural strength and sensory acceptability, OSA‐esterified pearl millet starch functions as a fat replacer in reduced‐fat yoghurt.  相似文献

In a motive to develop a natural fiber-based dielectric material, bamboo fiber-reinforced epoxy composite is fabricated using hand layup technique and hybridized with Kevlar K29 fiber to enhance its properties. Dielectric and conductivity studies are performed using LCR meter on the composite samples as a function of frequency (100 Hz-1 MHz) and temperature (22–120°C). From the experiment, it is observed that the dielectric properties of bamboo-based natural composite are significantly enhanced by Kevlar hybridization. And also the influence of variation in frequency and temperature on the electrical properties i.e. dielectric and conductivity of the fabricated composite was studied. This perspective provides an overview of the techniques that have been developed for the conjugation of DNA to colloidal quantum dots (QDs), or semiconductor nanocrystals. Methods described include: ligand exchange at the QD surface, covalent conjugation of DNA to the QD surface ligands, and one-step DNA functionalization on core QDs or during core/shell QD synthesis in aqueous solution, with an emphasis on the most recent progress in our lab.
