Various two terminal electrode geometry configurations are commonly employed to probe the electrical properties of materials with the key consideration being how current flows through the sample. Here, finite element modeling is used to simulate the dc electrical response of an electrically homogeneous sample (based on single crystal SrTiO3) using two terminal electrode geometries based on full surface, top-bottom macro-contacts as is commonly used when characterizing bulk ceramics or large single crystals and top-bottom and top-top micro-contacts that are used to characterize thin films and local intra- and inter-granular regions in ceramics. Well-known equations for macro- and micro-contacts are used to calculate the conductivity of the sample and are compared to the intrinsic values to determine their accuracy. A geometric factor returns accurate bulk conductivity values when there is homogeneous current flow whereas the spreading resistance equation gives the most accurate conductivity values for heterogeneous current flow. When micro-contacts are used, the response is dominated by a small region of high current density in the vicinity of the contact, providing local electrical properties. Interference can occur when regions of high current density overlap, providing a less resistive route for current flow, thus reducing the applicability of the spreading resistance equation. For top-top micro-contacts at small separations, the conductivity is overestimated. The accuracy of the spreading resistance equation increases as the contact separation increases and is within 10% error when they are separated by eight times the micro-contact radius. Convergence of the error to values lower than 10% becomes increasingly difficult and requires excessively large (and experimentally challenging) separation distances. For example, to obtain a result with an error below 5% requires separations in excess of 28 times the micro-contact radius. Confinement occurs when the sample size limits the ability of the current to spread out from a micro-contact, thus increasing the resistance. As the sample shape and dimensions can limit current flow, a geometric factor can sometimes be used to determine accurate conductivity values. In some cases, interference can counter-balance confinement to yield fortuitously accurate conductivity values.  相似文献

A novel biomimetic vascular graft scaffolds were produced by electrospinning method with the most superior characteristics to be a proper biomimetic small diameter blood vessel using Polycaprolactone(PCL), Ethyl Cellulose(EC) and Collagen Type-1 were used to create the most convenient synergy of a natural and synthetic polymer to achieve similarity to native small diameter blood vessels. Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry Analysis(DSC), tensile measurement tests, and in-vitro and in-vivo applications were performed. Results indicated significant properties such as having 39.33?nm minimum, 104.98?nm average fiber diameter, 3.2?MPa young modulus and 135% relative cell viability.  相似文献

Path tracing is now the standard method used to generate realistic imagery in many domains, e.g., film, special effects, architecture etc. Path guiding has recently emerged as a powerful strategy to counter the notoriously long computation times required to render such images. We present a practical path guiding algorithm that performs product sampling, i.e., samples proportional to the product of the bidirectional scattering distribution function (BSDF) and incoming radiance. We use a spatial-directional subdivision to represent incoming radiance, and introduce the use of Linearly Transformed Cosines (LTCs) to represent the BSDF during path guiding, thus enabling efficient product sampling. Despite the computational efficiency of LTCs, several optimizations are needed to make our method cost effective. In particular, we show how we can use vectorization, precomputation, as well as strategies to optimize multiple importance sampling and Russian roulette to improve performance. We evaluate our method on several scenes, demonstrating consistent improvement in efficiency compared to previous work, especially in scenes with significant glossy inter-reflection.  相似文献

Peaking hydroelectric facilities release water from dams to match energy production with demand, often on a daily cycle. These fluctuating flows downstream can exert several potential stressors on organisms that may inhibit their growth, indirectly causing higher contaminant concentrations through reduced growth dilution. We collected spottail shiner (Notropis hudsonius) at two sites upstream and two sites downstream of a peaking hydroelectric dam in east‐central Saskatchewan, Canada, and compared their body condition, triglyceride concentrations, and mercury concentrations. Condition decline was observed in one of two downstream sites from August to September, and the lowest triglyceride concentrations were consistently found downstream of the dam where hydropeaking had the most perceptible effects on the shoreline. Mercury concentrations were significantly greater at both downstream sites relative to upstream. Despite these results, inconsistencies in response parameters across sites and time limited our ability to isolate the effects of hydropeaking as a causative agent and suggest indirect effects such as shifts in algal and macroinvertebrate communities may be responsible for our observations. These results suggest that hydroelectric power generation may indirectly increase mercury concentrations in downstream fish, but more research will be required to determine the specific mechanisms by which this occurs. The results and data also provide useful insights into the physiology of wild spottail shiner populations, which can help to inform the development of these fish as a North American sentinel species.  相似文献

Constructing heterostructures with abundant interfaces is essential for integrating the multiple functionalities in single entities. Herein, the synthesis of NiSe2/CoSe2 heterostructures with different interfacial densities via an innovative strategy of successive ion injection is reported. The resulting hybrid electrocatalyst with dense heterointerfaces exhibits superior electrocatalytic properties in an alkaline electrolyte, superior to other benchmarks and precious metal catalysts. Advanced synchrotron techniques, post structural characterizations, and density functional theory (DFT) simulations reveal that the introduction of atomic-level interfaces can lower the oxidation overpotential of bimetallic Ni and Co active sites (whereas Ni2+ can be more easily activated than Co2+) and induce the electronic interaction between the core selenides and surface in situ generated oxides/hydroxides, which play a critical role in synergistically reducing energetic barriers and accelerating reaction kinetics for catalyzing the oxygen evolution. Hence, the heterointerface structure facilitates the catalytic performance enhancement via increasing the intrinsic reactivity of metallic atoms and enhancing the synergistic effect between the inner selenides and surface oxidation species. This work not only complements the understanding on the origins of the activity of electrocatalysts based on metal selenides, but also sheds light on further surface and interfacial engineering of advanced hybrid materials.  相似文献

The demand for capacitors exhibiting low sensitivity towards temperature changes and high power peaks has increased significantly. Recently, Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT) based ceramics became excellent candidates for such extreme temperature capacitors. The dielectric loss of these materials is, however, difficult to control because of the complex defect chemistry of NBT based ceramics. Therefore, it is the limiting factor for high temperature applications. In this work, we present a strategy to increase the upper temperature limit for low dielectric loss. The addition of BiAlO3 to Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-BaTiO3-CaZrO3 reduces the loss and sensitivity towards Bi evaporation during synthesis. For unmodified samples, the relative permittivity (εr = 581, at 1 kHz) varies less than 15 %, while the dielectric loss stays below 0.02 between -68 and 368 °C. With the addition of BiAlO3, the temperature range of low loss extends from -68 to 391 °C at even higher permittivity (εr = 628, at 1 kHz).  相似文献

Antibiotics with novel mechanisms of action are desperately needed to combat the increasing rates of multidrug-resistant infections. Bacterial pantothenate kinase (PanK) has emerged as a target of interest to cut off the biosynthesis of coenzyme A. Herein we report the results of an in vitro high-throughput screen of over 10 000 small molecules against Bacillus anthracis PanK, as well as a follow-up screen of hits against PanK isolated from Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Burkholderia cenocepacia.
