This study is aimed at identifying a suitable organic thiol for CdS by studying its structural, thermal and photophysical characteristics. Quantum dots of the II-VI semiconductor CdS, in the size regime of 2.0-3.3?nm, were prepared in the cubic phase by a wet chemical method. Five organic thiols were used for capping: (i) 1,4-dithiothreitol (DTT), (ii) 2-mercaptoethanol (ME), (iii)?cysteine (Cys), (iv)?methionine (Meth), and (v)?glutathione (GSH). Structural studies were carried out by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which revealed the cubic phase of CdS. Optical properties were studied by FT-IR, UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques, and a comparison was made between uncapped and capped CdS. FT-IR studies suggested two different bonding mechanisms of the capping agents with the CdS. GSH and DTT capped CdS showed significant decrease in absorption wavelengths. An increase in band gap was observed in two cases: when (i)?capped and (ii)?decreased in size. The band gap was increased from 2.50?eV for the uncapped to 2.77?eV for the DTT capped CdS. DTT was found to be the best capping agent for CdS among these five organic thiols in two aspects: (i)?yielding lower grain size in cubic phase, and (ii)?good fluorescence properties with efficient quenching of the surface traps. 相似文献

The technological and financial limitations in the manufacturing process are the reason for non-achievability of nominal dimension. Therefore, tolerance allocation is of significant importance for assembly. Conventional tolerance allocation methods are limited by an assumption that all parts are rigid. Every mechanical assembly consists of at least one or more flexible parts which undergo significant deformation due to inertia effect. Finite element analysis is used to determine the deformation of components in an assembly. Therefore, integration of statistical tolerance design with finite element analysis will guarantee that the optimal tolerance values of various components of the assembly obtained as end product of the tolerance design will remain within tolerance variation. Then the product can function as intended under a wide range of operating conditions for the duration of its life. Medium-density fiberboards are finding increased applications in furniture and domestic industries. Drilling of these materials cannot be avoided. Delamination associated in drilling is the serious problem and this problem should be addressed further. This paper presents the systematic experimental investigation, analysis and optimization of delamination factor in drilling of medium-density fiberboards (MDF). Experiments were conducted on CNC drilling machine at various cutting conditions. The parameters considered for the experiments are cutting speed, feed rate and drill diameter. An empirical model has been developed for predicting the delamination factor at entry and exit of the holes in drilling of MDF boards. Desirability function based approach is employed for the optimization drilling parameters for minimizing the delamination factor at entry and exit in drilling of MDF boards. Assemblies of strongly interacting metallic nanoparticles are the basis for plasmonic nanostructure engineering. We demonstrate that clusters of four identical spherical particles self-assembled into a close-packed asymmetric quadrumer support strong Fano-like interference. This feature is highly sensitive to the polarization of the incident electric field due to orientation-dependent coupling between particles in the cluster. This structure demonstrates how careful design of self-assembled colloidal systems can lead to the creation of new plasmonic modes and the enabling of interference effects in plasmonic systems. 相似文献

We report the electrochemical deposition (ECD) of platinum nano-islands (Pt NIs) on functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (ECD Pt NIs@f-MWCNT) as an efficient electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Pristine MWCNT was acid treated to induce the number of oxygen functional groups on the surface and enhances the wettability. Thereafter, Pt nanoparticles (Pt Nps) were deposited by a simple electrodeposition technique on the oxygen enriched MWCNT surface. The Pt NIs@f-MWCNT has been physicochemically characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The TEM analysis showed the presence of Pt NIs on MWCNT wherein, the NIs were made up of small Pt nanoclusters of ~4 nm in dimension. The electrochemical HER studies were carried out using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). An overpotential (?) of ?84 mV was obtained at a current density (j) of ?10 mA/cm2. The amount of Pt loading has been optimized through electrodeposition. Enhanced HER activity was observed with a Pt loading of 3.8 μg/cm2. In order to ascertain the durability of the catalyst, accelerated degradation test (ADT) was carried out for 10,000 cycles at a scan rate (?) of 100 mV/s. The primary objective of this paper is to present new methods in characterising flexible pavements that possess nonlinear subgrade behavior using deflection data from falling weight deflectometer (FWD). The two techniques to be introduced are Simplified Deflection Modeling and Deflection Ratio (DefR) approach. FWD deflection data can be modelled accurately using an exponential curve in a mathematical form of Y = K1 exp (?r/K2). K1 is equal to deflection at D0 in micron and K2 is the structural parameter at the respective sensor location. K2 parameter is found to have a direct relationship with the material constant, value of the subgrade and it is taken as a measurement of the nonlinearity of the pavement layer. As K2 increases and approaches 500, the pavement structure is observed to possess linear elastic behaviour. In the second method, the DefR is defined as the ratio of the FWD deflection of a sensor divided by the deflection of the preceding sensor. For pavements that exhibit nonlinear subgrade behavior, the DefR shows an increasing trend for FWD sensors located at 300mm and beyond. Fine-particle metal chromites (MCr2 O4 , where M = Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) have been prepared by the combustion of aqueous solutions containing the respective metal nitrate, chromium(III) nitrate, and urea in stoichiometric amounts. The mixtures, when rapidly heated to 350°C, ignite and yield voluminous chromites with surface areas ranging from 5 to 25 m2 /g.
