This paper presents effective thermal conductivity measurements of alumina/water and copper oxide/water nanofluids. The effects of particle volume fraction, temperature and particle size were investigated. Readings at ambient temperature as well as over a relatively large temperature range were made for various particle volume fractions up to 9%. Results clearly show the predicted overall effect of an increase in the effective thermal conductivity with an increase in particle volume fraction and with a decrease in particle size. Furthermore, the relative increase in thermal conductivity was found to be more important at higher temperatures. Obtained results compare favorably with certain data sets and theoretical models found in current literature.  相似文献

The recent EU Commission proposal for promoting the supply of power from renewable energy sources was originally based on a pan-European, harmonised tradable green certificate (TGC) scheme. We suggest, on the basis of a multi-disciplinary analysis, that a pan-EU TGC system is not the way forward for Europe. It is vital that the Commission (and the majority of Member States) avoids implementation of such policy designs put forward by a coalition of vested interests. They should instead look at, and act upon, the available evidence from those countries that have experimented with TGCs (e.g. Flanders, UK and Sweden) and design policies that stand a better chance of meeting the criteria of effectiveness, efficiency and equity. In particular, the policies must enable EU to meet the immense innovation/industrialisation challenge by inducing the development of a capital goods industry that can, eventually, diffuse a broad range of technologies that use renewable energy sources. Only then we can acquire an ability to implement an industrial revolution in the energy system in a way that broadly meets the criteria of effectiveness and dynamic efficiency.  相似文献

Nowadays, the simulation of forming process is rather well integrated in the industrial numerical codes. However, in order to take into account the possible modifications of the tool during rates of working, a dedicated numerical software is currently developed within the laboratory Roberval, this software allows to simulate forming process. The tool is discretized by boundary elements and the product, which is subjected to non-linearities, is discretized by finite elements. For the product, an isotrope law of behaviour is integrated, and the damage is taken into account by the uncoupled Rice and Tracey model. This paper deals with a contact algorithm, coupling boundary elements and finite elements, programmed in the software KSP. For that, friction is described by the Coulomb law and the resolution of contact problems is done by the penalty method. An adaptive step has been developed in order to increase the robustness of the contact algorithm.  相似文献

With the application of new forming techniques (hydroforming, incremental forming), it is necessary to improve the characterization of the formability of materials and in particular the influence of strain rate. This paper begins with the characterization of material behavior of an aluminum alloy 5083 at high temperatures. To describe its visco-plastic behavior, Swift’s hardening law is used and the corresponding parameter values are identified. Then, two different approaches are introduced to construct FLDs (forming limit diagrams) of this alloy sheet and evaluate the effect of the rate sensitivity index on its formability. The first one is theoretical (the M-K model), and an algorithm is developed to calculate the limit strains by this model. In the second approach, the Marciniak test is simulated with the commercially available finite-element program ABAQUS. Based on FEM results, different failure criteria are discussed and an appropriate one is chosen to determine the onset of localized necking. With the material behavior data corresponding to AA5083 at 150 °C, parametric studies are carried out to evaluate the effect of the strain rate sensitivity index. The comparison of results by these two approaches shows the same tendency that an improvement of the formability with increasing strain rate sensitivity is observed. Finally, by consideration of the compensating effects of the strain hardening and rate sensitivity indices, the FLDs of this sheet at 150, 240 and 300 °C are determined and compared. Results show that the formability of AA5083 seems not to be improved up to a certain temperature (between 240 and 300 °C), above this temperature, the formability is greatly enhanced.  相似文献

The role of paf-acether (paf), a phospholipid cytokine, in the modulation of human B cell function was investigated. Paf, from 1×10−5 M to 10−6 M, decreased B cell proliferation induced by both phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) and anti-IgM antibodies (anti-IgM Ab). By contrast, 1×10−7 M to 1×10−9 M paf enhanced PMA triggered, but not anti-IgM triggered B cell proliferation. B cell proliferation was modulated between 24 and 72 hr of culture indicating that the effect of paf did not merely reflect a shift in proliferation kinetics. Interestingly, paf also enhanced the spontaneous proliferation of a Burkitt lymphoma-derived B cell line, Raji, which suggests that paf can directly act on B cells. The modulatory effect of paf on peripheral blood B cells was independent of PMA concentration, yet the effect on Raji cells was dependent upon cell density. The data suggest that paf is a potent modulator of B cell function, and may be involved in the control of humoral immune response. Susceptibility to fatty liver in the force-fed goose is partly under genetic control. However, the mechanisms leading to liver steatosis in this avian model are poorly understood, but may involve perturbation in hepatic lipoprotein synthesis. Plasma lipoproteins were fractionated by density gradient ultracentrifugation from plasma of geese differing in their susceptibility to liver steatosis (Landes breed, highly susceptible; Rhine breed, partly resistant). The concentrations and chemical compositions of the major lipoprotein classes (VLDL, IDL, LDL and HDL) were characterized at 8, 22 and 27 wk of age and compared to the lipid composition of the corresponding liver. In non-force-fed geese, the lipoprotein profile was typical of birds, with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) predominating (4–5 g/L). However, at 22 and 27 wk of age, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels were significantly lower in Landes geese suggesting that this breed may possess a lower ability to export liver lipids, which would explain its susceptibility to liver steatosis when overfed. The livers of force-fed geese were specifically enriched in triglyceride, and to a lesser extent, in cholesteryl esters and non-esterified fatty acids as compared to those of control geese of the same age (27 wk). This accumulation of lipids was more pronounced in the Landes breed and was responsible for the higher liver weight in that breed. In both breeds, liver steatosis was accompanied by an increase in plasma levels of HDL (11 g/L), whereas low-density lipoproteins were essentially absent. An increase in VLDL plasma levels occurred in the Landes breed only (2.51 g/Lvs 1.85 g/L in the Rhine breed), and was positively correlated with liver weight. However, VLDL in force-fed geese in both breeds were deficient in triglyceride (28–29% by wt) but enriched in cholesterol (41% by wt). These results indicate that a defect in the incorporation of triglyceride into nascent hepatic VLDL may result in liver steatosis in this species.  相似文献

Lake biological parameters show important spatio-temporal heterogeneities. This is why explaining the spatial patchiness of phytoplankton abundance has been a recurrent ecological issue and is an essential prerequisite for objectively assessing, protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems. The drivers of these heterogeneities can be identified by modeling their dynamics. This approach is useful for theoretical and applied limnology. In this study, a 3D hydrodynamic model of Lake Geneva (France/Switzerland) was created. It is based on the Delft3D suite software and includes the main tributary (Rhône River) and two-dimensional high-resolution meteorological forcing. It provides 3D maps of water temperature and current velocities with a 1?h time step on a 1?km horizontal grid size and with a vertical resolution of 1?m near the surface to 7?m at the bottom of the lake. The dynamics and the drivers of phytoplankton heterogeneities were assessed by combining the outputs of the model and chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a) data from MERIS satellite images between 2008 and 2012. Results highlight physical mechanisms responsible for the occurrence of seasonal hot-spots in phytoplankton abundance in the lake. At the beginning of spring, Chl-a heterogeneities are usually caused by an earlier onset of phytoplankton growth in the shallowest and more sheltered areas; spatial differences in the timing of phytoplankton growth can be explained by spatial variability in thermal stratification dynamics. In summer, transient and locally higher phytoplankton abundances are observed in relation to the impact of basin-scale upwelling.  相似文献

Construction of the La Grande Complex in Eastern Canada called for complete or partial diversion of six rivers, the mean annual discharge of which varied from 60 to 1600 m3 s?1, and the transfer of water from two adjoining watersheds (1586m3 s?1) into La Grande Rivière. Three of these rivers with reduced flow, Eastmain (from 700 to 95m3 s?1), Opinaca (from 260 to 35m3 s?1), and Caniapiscau (from 1708 to 960m3 s?1) and the waterways with increased flows, Boyd-Sakami (from 1 to 811m3 s?1) and La Grande Rivière (from 1760 to 3400m3 s?1) were intensively monitored from 1978 to 1988, while the others were surveyed sporadically. Very few modifications were observed, compared to previous conditions, in banks stability, water quality, and aquatic fauna of the affected rivers: those which appeared can be explained by the water level fluctuations, the water quality of the tributaries of the residual drainage basin, and/or by the direct influence of the reservoirs. In James Bay, the areal extent of the Eastmain River and La Grand Rivière plumes varied with discharge in an exponential relation, mostly under ice cover; resources from the coastal environment had not yet undergone any major changes. Because of the very small population dwelling in the area, less than 3000 inhabitants, modifications in the hydrological regime of these rivers did cause relatively few impacts, the main being greater banks instability in specific locations, reduction of the thickness and ice cover on La Grande Rivière, enhancement of navigation constraints on Eastmain River, and higher mercury levels in fish related to operation of the reservoirs.  相似文献

We studied the textural and rheological (viscoelastic) properties of fresh lafun dough, a fermented cassava product, and their changes during storage at 45 °C for 5 and 24 h, in order to determine after-cooking storability. Lafun flours were produced from three types of cassava varieties: seven improved white-fleshed varieties, seven improved provitamin A carotenoids (pVAC) varieties and two local white-fleshed varieties; and processed into lafun doughs. Pasting properties of the flours were assessed. Flours from local varieties had pasting profiles with highest viscosities, while pVAC flours had the lowest. The three types of cassava varieties varied significantly in most of their pasting properties. Four promising improved varieties were identified, based on high peak viscosity (55.8–61.5 P) and stiffer texture than local varieties during storage. Undesirable varieties were also found, which softened during storage instead of hardening. Optimum texture of lafun dough was obtained after 5 h of storage.  相似文献
