The mechanism of “475°C embrittlement” of a duplex stainless steel was investigated using finite element modelling of the stress distribution at brittle fracture initiation. Brittle fracture initiated at a critical shear stress, which increased with ferrite hardness. The fracture stress was affected by the duplex microstructure. Fracture was nucleated by deformation twins, which were identified using electron back-scatter diffraction. The ductile-to-brittle fracture transition was sensitive to age-hardening and could be described simply by the effect of age-hardening and test temperature on the yield stress. 相似文献

When the projecting point of saphenous nerve in second somatosensory cortex (S II) of cat was stimulated, the evoked potentials elicited by C-fiber inputs of saphenous nerve recorded in the primary somatosensory cortex (C-CEP) might be either inhibited or facilited according to whether the superficial and/or the deeper layer of the cortex was stimulated. The inhibition was expressed as a decrease of amplitude and prolongation of latency of C-CEP; while the facilitation, as an increase of amplitude and duration of C-CEP. When the superfaicial layer of S II was stimulated by weaker current, both inhibitory and facilitatory effects could be observed, but only inhibitory effect was observed, when the deep layer was stimulated. With the same intensity of stimulation, inhibitory effect was more pronounced when the deep layer rather than the superficial layer was stimulated. The aqueous solution structure of the cyclic pentapeptide cyclo(-Ser-D-Leu-Asp-Val-Pro-) has been determined by two-dimensional 1H-NMR spectroscopy, combined with a conformational search and distance-geometry calculations. As many as five conformers in slow exchange were observed, and the rate of interconversion between components was measured from the build-up rates of exchange peaks. NMR data allowed the structures of the two predominant conformers to be determined. The major component (66%) contained a cis-proline as part of a type-VIa2 beta-turn encompassing residues Asp-Val-cis-Pro-Ser. The second component (16%) contained only trans-amide bonds, and a type-VIII beta-turn formed by residues Val-Pro-Ser-D-Leu. These structures are discussed in relation to the (phi, psi), space available to the cyclic pentapeptide, determined by a conformational search, and in relation to previously published cyclic-pentapeptide structures. The molecule exhibits activity in a scintillation-proximity assay for the inhibition of the interaction between the integrin very-late antigen-4 (VLA-4; alpha 4 beta 1) and vascular-cell-adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1). The structure/activity relationship of the LDV sequence is discussed and related to the recently published X-ray structure of VCAM-1. The Kalman Filter is traditionally viewed as a prediction-correction filtering algorithm. In this work we show that it can
be viewed as a Bayesian fusion algorithm and derive it using Bayesian arguments. We begin with an outline of Bayes theory,
using it to discuss well-known quantities such as priors, likelihood and posteriors, and we provide the basic Bayesian fusion
equation. We derive the Kalman Filter from this equation using a novel method to evaluate the Chapman-Kolmogorov prediction
integral. We then use the theory to fuse data from multiple sensors. Vying with this approach is the Dempster-Shafer theory,
which deals with measures of “belief”, and is based on the nonclassical idea of “mass” as opposed to probability. Although
these two measures look very similar, there are some differences. We point them out through outlining the ideas of the Dempster-Shafer
theory and presenting the basic Dempster-Shafer fusion equation. Finally we compare the two methods, and discuss the relative

Volatile anaesthetics have historically been considered to act in a nonspecific manner on the central nervous system. More recent studies, however, have revealed that the receptors for inhibitory neurotransmitters such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycine are sensitive to clinically relevant concentrations of inhaled anaesthetics. The function of GABA(A) and glycine receptors is enhanced by a number of anaesthetics and alcohols, whereas activity of the related GABA rho1 receptor is reduced. We have used this difference in pharmacology to investigate the molecular basis for modulation of these receptors by anaesthetics and alcohols. By using chimaeric receptor constructs, we have identified a region of 45 amino-acid residues that is both necessary and sufficient for the enhancement of receptor function. Within this region, two specific amino-acid residues in transmembrane domains 2 and 3 are critical for allosteric modulation of both GABA(A) and glycine receptors by alcohols and two volatile anaesthetics. These observations support the idea that anaesthetics exert a specific effect on these ion-channel proteins, and allow for the future testing of specific hypotheses of the action of anaesthetics. 相似文献
