MISR prelaunch instrument calibration and characterization results   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Each of the nine cameras that compose the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) has been rigorously tested, characterized, and calibrated. Requirements on these tests include a 3% (1σ) radiometric calibration requirement, spectral response function determination of both the in- and out-of-band regions, and distortion mapping. The latter test determines the relative look-angle to the ground corresponding to each focal plane detector element. This is established to within one-tenth of the instantaneous field-of-view. Most of the performance testing was done on the cameras as they completed assembly. This was done to take advantage of the serial delivery of the hardware, minimize the required size of the thermal-vacuum facilities, and allow testing to occur early in the schedule allocated for the hardware build. This proved to be an effective strategy, as each of the test objectives was met. Additional testing as an integrated instrument included verification of the data packetization, camera pointing, and clearances of the fields-of-view. Results of these studies have shown that the MISR cameras are of high quality and will meet the needs of the MISR science community. This study analyses costs and effects of treating acoustic neuroma patients by using microsurgery compared to radiosurgery. Radiosurgery is the stereotactic application of radiotherapy and an innovative medical technology. Cost and effect estimates of conventional treatment were based on a retrospective study in the Netherlands. Similar data for a comparable group of patients in Sweden were collected for radiosurgery, as this treatment option is currently not available in the Netherlands. Fifty-three acoustic neuroma patients who had been operated on the University Hospital Rotterdam between November 1990 and February 1995 were included. This group was compared with 92 acoustic neuroma patients treated with radiosurgery (Gamma Knife. Stockholm, Sweden) in the same period. Data on health care use were collected from patient files. To obtain data on production losses and quality of life, a questionnaire was sent by mail in February 1995. This booklet consisted of the Health and Labour-questionnaire (HLQ), the Short Form-36 (SF36) and the EuroQol. The response rate was 92%. Direct costs for microsurgery amounted to Dfl. 20.072,- and for radiosurgery to Dfl. 14.272,-. Indirect costs were respectively Dfl. 16.400,- and Dfl. 1.020,-. General health rating was better for radiosurgery than for microsurgery. On the whole, differences in clinical outcomes between the two patient groups were small. Assuming a reasonable occupancy rate of the expensive radiosurgery equipment, we demonstrated that for the short term treating patients with acoustic neuroma with an extra-meatal tumour diameter of less than 3 centimeters, radiosurgery is more cost-effective than microsurgery.  相似文献

ELISA methods used in this study are proved to detect low contents of animal species (pork, beef, sheep and poultry), even in highly processed foods. During prometaphase in mitotic cell division, chromosomes attach to the walls of microtubules and subsequently move to microtubule ends, where they stay throughout mitosis. This end-attachment seems to be essential for correct chromosome segregating. However, the mechanism by which kinetochores, the multiprotein complexes that link chromosomes to the microtubules of the mitotic spindle, recognize and stay attached to microtubule ends is not understood. One clue comes from the hydrolysis of GTP that occurs during microtubule polymerization. Although tubulin dimers must contain GTP to polymerize, this GTP is rapidly hydrolysed following the addition of dimers to a growing polymer. This creates a microtubule consisting largely of GDP-tubulin, with a small cap of GTP-tubulin at the end. It is possible that kinetochores distinguish the different structural states of a GTP- versus a GDP-microtubule lattice. We have examined this question in vitro using reconstituted kinetochores from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We found that kinetochores in vitro bind preferentially to GTP- rather than GDP-microtubules, and to the plus-end preferentially over the lattice. Our results could explain how kinetochores stay at microtubule ends and thus segregate chromosomes correctly during mitosis in vivo. This result demonstrates that proteins exist that can distinguish the GTP conformation of the microtubule lattice.  相似文献

Natural fibers appear to be a promising alternative to glass fibers for the reinforcement of polymer matrix composites. However, the wide dispersion of their mechanical properties slows down their development.The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the sampling area of the stem on the mechanical properties of hemp fibers. Tensile tests were carried out on fibers extracted from the bottom, the middle, and the top of one stem. The results show there is only slight variations between the different areas: fibers from the middle exhibit higher tensile strength and ultimate elongation than top and bottom fibers, but there are no differences in terms of stiffness. A strong dependence of the fiber mechanical properties on their diameter is observed. This dependence induces more dispersion of the properties than the sampling area, thus it seems relevant to consider the whole stem to extract fibers, without defining distinct areas.  相似文献

CGS 20,267 is a new potent and selective, nonsteroidal, oral aromatase inhibitor. For its determination in human plasma and urine, an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and an HPLC method were developed. The EIA showed good precision and accuracy (intra- and interassay variation between 3.0 and 17.7%, recoveries between 81 and 106%) and a quantitation limit of 0.7 nmol/L. A strong cross reactivity of the antibodies with the hydroxy metabolite of CGS 20,267 (CGP 44,645) was observed. The HPLC method showed a quantitation limit in plasma of 28 and 34 nmol/L for CGS 20,267 and CGP 44,645, respectively. For urine, concentrations down to 180 nmol/L (CGS 20,267) and 210 nmol/L (CGP 44,645) could be measured. A cross check between EIA and HPLC on plasma samples from healthy male volunteers or breast cancer patients treated orally with CGS 20,267 revealed an excellent correlation (slope = 0.934, intercept = 26, r = 0.991). However, the EIA measurements of urine samples yielded 3-25 times higher concentrations than those obtained by HPLC. Further, HPLC analysis revealed the presence of CGS 20,267 and cross-reacting metabolites in urine but not in plasma. Therefore, the EIA can only be used for the determination of CGS 20,267 in plasma samples.  相似文献

The goals of this study were to (1) determine the effects of repeated inhalation of relatively insoluble nickel oxide (NiO) and highly soluble nickel sulfate hexahydrate (NiSO4.6H2O) on lung particle clearance, (2) investigate the effects of repeated inhalation of NiO or NiSO4 on the pulmonary clearance of subsequently inhaled 85Sr-labeled microspheres, (3) correlate the observed effects on clearance with accumulated Ni lung burden and associated pathological changes in the lung, and (4) compare responses in F344 rats and B6C3F1 mice. Male F344/N rats and B6C3F1 mice were exposed whole-body to either NiO or NiSO4.6H2O 6 hr/day, 5 days/week for up to 6 months. NiO exposure concentrations were 0, 0.62, and 2.5 mg NiO/m3 for rats and 0, 1.25, and 5.0 mg NiO/m3 for mice. NiSO4.6H2O exposure concentrations were 0, 0.12, and 0.5 mg NiSO4.6H2O/m3 for rats and 0, 0.25, and 1.0 mg NiSO4.6H2O/m3 for mice. After 2 and 6 months of whole-body exposure, groups of rats and mice were acutely exposed nose-only to 63NiO (NiO-exposed animals only), 63NiSO4.6H2O (NiSO4.6H2O-exposed animals only), or to 85Sr-labeled polystyrene latex (PSL) microspheres (both NiO- and NiSO4.6H2O-exposed animals) to evaluate lung clearance. In addition, groups of rats and mice were euthanized after 2 and 6 months of exposure and at 2 and 4 months after the whole-body exposures were completed to evaluate histopathological changes in the left lung and to quantitate Ni in the right lung. Repeated inhalation of NiO results in accumulation of Ni in lungs of both rats and mice, but to a greater extent in lungs of rats. During the 4 months after the end of the whole-body exposures, some clearance of the accumulated Ni burden occurred from the lungs of rats and mice exposed to the lower, but not the higher NiO exposure concentrations. Clearance of acutely inhaled 63NiO was also impaired in both rats and mice, with the extent of impairment related to both exposure concentration and duration. However, the clearance of acutely inhaled 85Sr PSL microspheres was not impaired. The repeated inhalation of NiO resulted in alveolar macrophage (AM) hyperplasia with accumulation of NiO particles in both rats and mice, chronic alveolitis in rats, and interstitial pneumonia in mice. These lesions persisted throughout the 4-month recovery period after the NiO whole-body exposures were terminated. In contrast, repeated inhalation of NiSO4.6H2O did not result in accumulation of Ni in lungs of either rats or mice and did not affect the clearance of 63NiSO4.6H2O inhaled after either 2 or 6 months of NiSO4.6H2O exposure. Clearance of the 85Sr-labeled microspheres was significantly impaired only in rats exposed to the microspheres after 2 months of exposure to NiSO4.6H2O. Histopathological changes in rats were qualitatively similar to those seen in NiO-exposed rats. Only minimal histopathological changes were observed in NiSO4.6H2O-exposed mice. These results suggest that repeated inhalation of NiO at levels resulting in AM hyperplasia and alveolitis may impair clearance of subsequently inhaled NiO. The potential effects of repeated inhalation of soluble NiSO4.6H2O on the clearance of subsequently inhaled poorly soluble particles are less clear.  相似文献

An unusual combination of a fusiform aneurysm on the middle cerebral artery branch to the central region and cortical lipomatosis is described. The etiology of lipomatous disorders in the brain are multiple. The possibility of a combined dysplasia based on maldifferentiation of primitive meninges and the arterial wall is suggested in this case. Treatment consisted in uneventful, microsurgical image-guided resection of the aneurysm using the Surgiscope robotic system.  相似文献
