Abstract. In this paper we attempt to establish unified sufficient conditions for geometric ergodicity of autoregressive models. It is shown that there is a close relationship between geometric ergodicity and mixing properties. The case of nonstationary time series is incorporated into the investigations. Several time series models including threshold and EXPARCH‐models are examined with respect to geometric ergodicity. In some cases we obtain regions of geometric ergodicity in the parameter space, which are larger than that known from the literature. 相似文献

Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis was found in three siblings. Only the youngest of them, a former smoker, developed endstage lung disease. The other two are asymptomatic with normal lung function despite impressive changes on all chest radiographs. The role of smoking in perpetuating microlithiasis and furthering the progression of this disease is discussed. 相似文献

It is shown in this paper, that during laser treatment of polymeric materials the occurrence of discolouring layers of laser crack deposits onto the substrate can be avoided without preventing the formation of a laser-induced microstructuring of the surface. The article introduces steel fiber reinforced polymer composites, which is considered new for composite product developments. These composites consist of steel fibers or filaments of 0.21 mm diameter embedded in a polyester resin. The goal of this investigation is to characterize the mechanical performance of steel fiber reinforced polyester composites at room temperature. The mechanical properties of unidirectional steel fiber reinforced polyester composites (SFRP) are evaluated experimentally and compared with the predicted values by micro‐mechanical models. These predictions help to understand the role of material and process parameters on material properties. Two types of SFRP were studied: polyester resin reinforced by both steel fabric containing unidirectional fibers and steel fibers wound on a metal frame with 0° orientations. The effects of the fiber volume fraction and the role of polymer yarns (weft) on mechanical properties were analyzed through tensile, compressive, and shear tests. These tests were performed as per the standard test procedures. In particular, issues related to processing difficulties, polymer yarns effect on properties, standardized testing, and properties under various loading conditions were addressed. Microscopic observations were analyzed to assess the laminate quality and the macroscopic fracture surfaces of shear test specimens were studied by standard techniques. POLYM. [Fe]‐Hydrogenase (Hmd) catalyzes reversible hydride transfer from H2. It harbors an iron‐guanylylpyridinol as a cofactor with an FeII that is ligated to one thiolate, two COs, one acyl‐C, one pyridinol‐N, and solvent. Here, we report that CuI and H2O2 inactivate Hmd (half‐maximal rates at 1 μM CuI and 20 μM H2O2) and that FeII inhibits the enzyme with very high affinity (Ki=40 nM ). Infrared and EPR studies together with competitive inhibition studies with isocyanide indicated that CuI exerts its inhibitory effect most probably by binding to the active site iron‐thiolate ligand. Using the same methods, it was found that H2O2 binds to the active‐site iron at the solvent‐binding site and oxidizes FeII to FeIII. Also it was shown that FeII reversibly binds away from the active site iron, with binding being competitive to the organic hydride acceptor; this inhibition is specific for FeII and is reminiscent of that for the [FeFe]‐hydrogenase second iron, which specifically interacts with H2. 相似文献

Urinary tract infections caused by uropathogenic E. coli are among the most prevalent infectious diseases. The mannose‐specific lectin FimH mediates the adhesion of the bacteria to the urothelium, thus enabling host cell invasion and recurrent infections. An attractive alternative to antibiotic treatment is the development of FimH antagonists that mimic the physiological ligand. A large variety of candidate drugs have been developed and characterized by means of in vitro studies and animal models. Here we present the X‐ray co‐crystal structures of FimH with members of four antagonist classes. In three of these cases no structural data had previously been available. We used NMR spectroscopy to characterize FimH–antagonist interactions further by chemical shift perturbation. The analysis allowed a clear determination of the conformation of the tyrosine gate motif that is crucial for the interaction with aglycone moieties and was not obvious from X‐ray structural data alone. Finally, ITC experiments provided insight into the thermodynamics of antagonist binding. In conjunction with the structural information from X‐ray and NMR experiments the results provide a mechanism for the often‐observed enthalpy–entropy compensation of FimH antagonists that plays a role in fine‐tuning of the interaction. 相似文献

Micronization of polyethylene glycol from aqueous solutions has been successfully performed with particles from gas-saturated solutions (PGSS)-drying process, producing spherical PEG particles with average particle size of 10 μm and residual water content below 1 wt%. Based on experimental results, an analysis of the fundamentals of the process has been developed, discussing mass and energy balances, phase equilibrium conditions, mass transfer rates and atomization mechanisms. Some discrepancies between experimentally observed moisture concentration in powder and calculations based on the mass balance and the phase equilibrium have been observed, which have been attributed to the kinetic evolution of pressure and temperature along the expansion path. The static mixer used to saturate the solution with CO2 has been analyzed with phase equilibrium and mass transfer calculations, concluding that a significant fraction of water is extracted to the gas phase already in the static mixer, and high CO2 concentrations are achieved in the liquid due to the high solubility of CO2 in PEG. All experimental trends of variation of particle size with process parameters can be explained considering a flash-boiling atomization mechanism dependant on the concentration of CO2 in the solution after the static mixer. 相似文献

Antimicrobial resistance represents a major threat to human health and knowledge of the underlying mechanisms is therefore vital. Here, we report the discovery and characterization of oxidoreductases that inactivate the broad-spectrum antibiotic chloramphenicol via dual oxidation of the C3-hydroxyl group. Accordingly, chloramphenicol oxidation either depends on standalone glucose-methanol-choline (GMC)-type flavoenzymes, or on additional aldehyde dehydrogenases that boost overall turnover. These enzymes also enable the inactivation of the chloramphenicol analogues thiamphenicol and azidamfenicol, but not of the C3-fluorinated florfenicol. Notably, distinct isofunctional enzymes can be found in Gram-positive (e. g., Streptomyces sp.) and Gram-negative (e. g., Sphingobium sp.) bacteria, which presumably evolved their selectivity for chloramphenicol independently based on phylogenetic analyses. Mechanistic and structural studies provide further insights into the catalytic mechanisms of these biotechnologically interesting enzymes, which, in sum, are both a curse and a blessing by contributing to the spread of antibiotic resistance as well as to the bioremediation of chloramphenicol. 相似文献

BP100 is a cationic undecamer peptide with antimicrobial and cell-penetrating activities. The orientation of this amphiphilic α-helix in lipid bilayers was examined under numerous conditions using solid-state 19F, 15N and 2H NMR. At high temperatures in saturated phosphatidylcholine lipids, BP100 lies flat on the membrane surface, as expected. Upon lowering the temperature towards the lipid phase transition, the helix is found to flip into an upright transmembrane orientation. In thin bilayers, this inserted state was stable at low peptide concentration, but thicker membranes required higher peptide concentrations. In the presence of lysolipids, the inserted state prevailed even at high temperature. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that BP100 monomer insertion can be stabilized by snorkeling lysine side chains. These results demonstrate that even a very short helix like BP100 can span (and thereby penetrate through) a cellular membrane under suitable conditions. 相似文献
