Gamut mapping deals with the need to adjust a color image to fit into the constrained color gamut of a given rendering medium. A typical use for this tool is the reproduction of a color image prior to its printing, such that it exploits best the given printer/medium color gamut, namely the colors the printer can produce on the given medium. Most of the classical gamut mapping methods involve a pixel-by-pixel mapping and ignore the spatial color configuration. Recently proposed spatial-dependent approaches for gamut mapping are either based on heuristic assumptions or involve a high computational cost. In this paper, we present a new variational approach for space-dependent gamut mapping. Our treatment starts with the presentation of a new measure for the problem, closely related to a recent measure proposed for Retinex. We also link our method to recent measures that attempt to couple spectral and spatial perceptual measures. It is shown that the gamut mapping problem leads to a quadratic programming formulation, guaranteed to have a unique solution if the gamut of the target device is convex. Noncommensurate 2D interfaces hold great promise toward low friction and nanoelectromechanical applications. For identical constituents, the crystals interlock at specific rotational configurations leading to high barriers for slide. In contrast, nonidentical constituents comprising different lattice parameters should enable robust superlubricity for all rotational configurations. This is however not the case for gold–graphite interfaces, as both theory and experiments show scaling behavior of the sliding force as a function of the interface contact area. By simulating the sliding force for gold–graphite interfaces, this work shows that the origin for high force barriers at special angular configurations is a result of commensurability between the moiré structure and the contact geometry. Consequently, this paper suggests new geometries that can potentially overcome such commensurability effects to enable robust superlubricity. 相似文献

ABSTRACTBiofortification aims to improve the micronutrient concentration of staple food crops through the best practices of breeding and modern biotechnology. However, increased zinc and iron concentrations in food crops may not always translate into proportional increases in absorbed zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe). Therefore, assessing iron and zinc bioavailability in biofortified crops is imperative to evaluate the efficacy of breeding programs. This review aimed to investigate the advantages and limitations of in vitro and in vivo methods of iron and zinc bioavailability evaluation in the assessment of biofortification program effectiveness. In vitro, animal and isotopic human studies have shown high iron and zinc bioavailability in biofortified staple food crops. Human studies provide direct knowledge regarding the effectiveness of biofortification, however, human studies are time consuming and are more expensive than in vitro and animal studies. Moreover, in vitro studies may be a useful preliminary screening method to identify promising plant cultivars, however, these studies cannot provide data that are directly applicable to humans. None of these methods provides complete information regarding mineral bioavailability, thus, a combination of these methods should be the most appropriate strategy to investigate the effectiveness of zinc and iron biofortification programs. 相似文献

In yeast, peroxisomes are the site of specific catabolic pathways that characteristically include hydrogen peroxide producing oxidases and catalase. During the last 10 years, much progress has been made in unravelling the molecular mechanisms involved in the biogenesis of this organelle. At present, 23 different genes (PEX genes) have been identified that are involved in different aspects of peroxisome biogenesis (e.g., proliferation, formation of the peroxisomal membrane, import of matrix proteins). The principles of peroxisome degradation are still much less understood. Recently, the first yeast mutants affected in this process have become available and used to clone corresponding genes by functional complementation. In this paper, an overview is presented of the research on yeast peroxisomes, focusing on recent achievements in the molecular aspects of peroxisome development, function, and turnover. 相似文献

An approach has been recently introduced for acquiring arbitrary 2D NMR spectra or images in a single scan, based on the use of frequency-swept RF pulses for the sequential excitation and acquisition of the spins response. This spatiotemporal-encoding (SPEN) approach enables a unique, voxel-by-voxel refocusing of all frequency shifts in the sample, for all instants throughout the data acquisition. The present study investigates the use of this full-refocusing aspect of SPEN-based imaging in the multi-shot MRI of objects, subject to sizable field inhomogeneities that complicate conventional imaging approaches.Materials and methods
2D MRI experiments were performed at 7 T on phantoms and on mice in vivo, focusing on imaging in proximity to metallic objects. Fully refocused SPEN-based spin echo imaging sequences were implemented, using both Cartesian and back-projection trajectories, and compared with k-space encoded spin echo imaging schemes collected on identical samples under equal bandwidths and acquisition timing conditions.Results
In all cases assayed, the fully refocused spatiotemporally encoded experiments evidenced a ca. 50?% reduction in signal dephasing in the proximity of the metal, as compared to analogous results stemming from the k-space encoded spin echo counterparts.Conclusion
The results in this study suggest that SPEN-based acquisition schemes carry the potential to overcome strong field inhomogeneities, of the kind that currently preclude high-field, high-resolution tissue characterizations in the neighborhood of metallic implants. 相似文献6.

In this paper, we present a new technique for worst-case analysis of compression algorithms which are based on the Burrows–Wheeler Transform. We mainly deal with the algorithm proposed by Burrows and Wheeler in their first paper on the subject [M. Burrows, D.J. Wheeler, A block sorting lossless data compression algorithm, Technical Report 124, Digital Equipment Corporation, Palo Alto, California, 1994], called bw0. We propose the Gaussian content (GC) as an optional quality parameter for the characterization of laser beams. It is defined as the overlap integral of a given field with an optimally defined Gaussian. The definition is especially suited for applications where coherence properties are targeted. Mathematical definitions and basic calculation procedures are given along with results for basic beam profiles. The coherent combination of an array of laser beams and the optimal coupling between a diode laser and a single-mode fiber are elaborated as application examples. Cross-modal analysis is a natural progression beyond processing of single-source signals. Simultaneous processing of two sources can reveal information that is unavailable when handling the sources separately. Indeed, human and animal perception, computer vision, weather forecasting, and various other scientific and technological fields can benefit from such a paradigm. A particular cross-modal problem is localization: out of the entire data array originating from one source, localize the components that best correlate with the other. For example, auditory and visual data sampled from a scene can be used to localize visual events associated with the sound track. In this paper we present a rigorous analysis of fundamental problems associated with the localization task. We then develop an approach that leads efficiently to a unique, high definition localization outcome. Our method is based on canonical correlation analysis (CCA), where inherent ill-posedness is removed by exploiting sparsity of cross-modal events. We apply our approach to localization of audio-visual events. The proposed algorithm grasps such dynamic audio-visual events with high spatial resolution. The algorithm effectively detects the pixels that are associated with sound, while filtering out other dynamic pixels, overcoming substantial visual distractions and audio noise.
