On the Cutoff Wavelength of Rectangular-Shaped Microshield Line by Edge Element Method

In this paper, the cutoff characteristic of rectangular-shaped microshield transmission line has been analysed by edge element method. Dependence of cutoff wavelengths on the thickness of metallic signal strip, dielectric constant of dielectric substrate and the width of the rectangular-shaped ground conductor are presented in tabular form. Numerical results in this paper have important values in design of rectangular-shaped microshield lines in microwave and millimeter wave integrated circuits.     

The neurotrophic analogue of ACTH(4-9) reduces the perineuronal microglial reaction after rat facial nerve crush

Rats bled to a severe condition of volume-controlled hemorrhagic shock were randomly assigned to one of the following treatments: (1) saline, 1 ml/kg i.v.; (2) saline, 0.2 ml/kg per min i.v. for 10 min; (3) ACTH-(1-24), 160 micrograms/kg i.v.; 4) methylprednisolone, 40 mg/kg i.v.; (5) methylprednisolone, 80 mg/kg i.v.; (6) aprotinin, 10,000 KIU/kg i.v.; (7) norepinephrine, 5 micrograms/kg per min i.v. for 10 min; (8) norepinephrine, 10 micrograms/kg per min i.v. for 10 min. All rats treated with saline or with either of the two doses of methylprednisolone, and half of the rats treated with aprotinin, died within the subsequent 2 h. On the other hand, rats treated with norepinephrine, at either dose, or with ACTH-(1-24) were all still alive 2 h later, a similar improvement in cardiovascular and respiratory parameters being obtained with the two treatments. The effect of ACTH on mean arterial pressure was however more sustained throughout the observation period. These results further support the potential usefulness of ACTH-(1-24) as first-aid treatment in cases of severe blood losses.     

Cat sera neutralize rotaviruses of serotype G3

Group A rotaviruses play an important role for the induction of gastroenteritis. Seroepidemiological studies evaluating the situation in humans have been performed previously. In this study data concerning the importance of group A rotavirus infections and the contribution of the most important serotypes are given for the domestic cat. 91% of the observed sera showed antibodies neutralizing serotype G 3. Antibodies with neutralizing properties directed against other important human serotypes could not be detected. The results obtained are discussed with respect to the formation of reassortant rotaviruses.     

Inside Front Cover: Three‐Dimensionally Ordered Gold Nanocrystal/Silica Superlattice Thin Films Synthesized via Sol–Gel Self‐Assembly (Adv. Funct. Mater. 7/2006)

The synthesis of three‐dimensionally ordered, transparent gold‐nanocrystal (NC)/silica superlattice thin films using the self‐assembly (by spin‐coating) of water‐soluble gold nanocrystal micelles and soluble silica is reported by Fan and co‐workers on p. 891. The robust, 3D NC/silica superlattice films are of interest for the development of collective optical and electronic phenomena, and, importantly, for the integration of NC arrays into device architectures. Nanocrystals and their ordered arrays hold many important applications in fields such as catalysis, surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy based sensors, memory storage, and electronic and optical nanodevices. Herein, a simple and general method to synthesize ordered, three‐dimensional, transparent gold nanocrystal/silica superlattice thin films by self‐assembly of gold nanocrystal micelles with silica or organosilsesquioxane by spin‐coating is reported. The self‐assembly process is conducted under acidic sol–gel conditions (ca. pH 2), ensuring spin‐solution homogeneity and stability and facilitating the formation of ordered and transparent gold nanocrystal/silica films. The monodisperse nanocrystals are organized within inorganic host matrices as a face‐centered cubic mesostructure, and characterized by transmission electron spectroscopy and X‐ray diffraction.

Comment on "Outage Probability Analysis of a MIMO Relay Channel with Orthogonal Space-Time Block Codes"

We point out that a simpler expression could be derived for the outage probability considered by Chalise and Vandendorpe (2008). As a result, the computation of confluent hypergeometric function of two variables is not needed and the required computational effort is significantly reduced.     

Frames of Reference in Mobile Augmented Reality Displays.

In 3 experiments, the authors investigated spatial updating in augmented reality environments. Participants learned locations of virtual objects on the physical floor. They were turned to appropriate facing directions while blindfolded before making pointing judgments (e.g., "Imagine you are facing X. Point to Y"). Experiments manipulated the angular difference between the learning heading and the imagined heading and between the actual heading and the imagined heading. The effect of actual-imagined on pointing latency was observed for naive users but not for users with brief training or instructions concerning the fact that objects can move with body movements. The results indicated that naive users used an environment-stabilized reference frame to access information arrays, but with experience and instruction the nature of the representation changed from an environment stabilized to a body stabilized reference frame. 一种网络服务自动部署方法

为满足网络服务使用者对网络服务部署的功能性和非功能性需求,运用Petri网的方法进行了互联网动态多变环境下的网络服务自动部署的研究,建立了一种基于Petri网的网络服务部署网模型,从形式化的角度描述了网络服务功能的部署情况,提出了一种按照服务质量来选择最优网络服务部署的算法。仿真的结果表明,与目前常用的固定部署算法和随机部署算法相比,按照该方法得到的网络服务部署能最好地满足服务使用者对服务的非功能性方面的需求。     

新区采油速度与稳产时间、递减率变化关系研究

针对新区稳产时间以及递减期递减余率大小难以确定等问题,通过对中原油田61个独立小区块进行分析对比,得出采油速度与稳产时间,不同采油速度下无因次采油速度与时间关系曲线,对于新区开发预测稳产时间以及预测递减期产量变化有着重要意义.
