Hydrogen is a natural by-product of several microbial driven biochemical reactions, mainly in anaerobic fermentation processes. In addition, certain microorganisms produce enzymes by which H2 from water may be obtained if an outside energy source, like sunlight, is provided. Biophotolysis is a biological process which involves solar energy and algae clusters to convert water into hydrogen. Algae pigments absorb solar energy and enzymes in the cell act as catalysts to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. There are many research activities studying hydrogen production from biological systems cyanobacteria and green algae and some studies present a complete outline of the main available pathways to improve the photosynthetic H2 production [1] and [2].Efficiency (energy produced from hydrogen divided by solar energy) of such processes can be estimated up to 10%. This value has to be increased for a large-scale hydrogen production. The effect of different artificial illumination conditions on H2 production was studied for green algae cultures (Chlamydomonas reinhardtii). Results will be used to design a high-efficiency photobioreactor for a large-scale hydrogen production.  相似文献

We demonstrate how 3D head tracking and pose estimation can be effectively and efficiently achieved from noisy RGB-D sequences. Our proposal leverages on a random forest framework, designed to regress the 3D head pose at every frame in a temporal tracking manner. One peculiarity of the algorithm is that it exploits together (1) a generic training dataset of 3D head models, which is learned once offline; and, (2) an online refinement with subject-specific 3D data, which aims for the tracker to withstand slight facial deformations and to adapt its forest to the specific characteristics of an individual subject. The combination of these works allows our algorithm to be robust even under extreme poses, where the user’s face is no longer visible on the image. Finally, we also propose another solution that utilizes a multi-camera system such that the data simultaneously acquired from multiple RGB-D sensors helps the tracker to handle challenging conditions that affect a subset of the cameras. Notably, the proposed multi-camera frameworks yields a real-time performance of approximately 8 ms per frame given six cameras and one CPU core, and scales up linearly to 30 fps with 25 cameras.  相似文献

Both district heating and solar collector systems have been known and implemented for many years. However, the combination of the two, with solar collectors supplying heat to the district heating network, is relatively new, and no comprehensive review of scientific publications on this topic could be found. Thus, this paper summarizes the literature available on solar district heating and presents the state of the art and real experiences in this field. Given the lack of a generally accepted convention on the classification of solar district heating systems, this paper distinguishes centralized and decentralized solar district heating as well as block heating. For the different technologies, the paper describes commonly adopted control strategies, system configurations, types of installation, and integration. Real‐world examples are also given to provide a more detailed insight into how solar thermal technology can be integrated with district heating. Solar thermal technology combined with thermally driven chillers to provide cooling for cooling networks is also included in this paper. In order for a technology to spread successfully, not only technical but also economic issues need to be tackled. Hence, the paper identifies and describes different types of ownership and financing schemes currently used in this field.  相似文献

In this study, the electrical resistivity of a glass-ceramic sealant is evaluated at 850 °C, for 2800 h under the applied voltage of 1.6 V. The glass-ceramic sealant is sandwiched between two Crofer22APU plates to produce Crofer22APU/Glass-ceramic/Crofer22APU samples. The Crofer22APU/glass-ceramic/Crofer22APU joints show electrical resistivity around 106-107 Ω cm, significantly high to ensure the insulation between two conductive interconnect plates. The detailed SEM-EDS post mortem analysis showed good thermo-mechanical compatibility of the glass-ceramic with the Crofer22APU substrates, thus excluding any detrimental interaction with the metallic interconnect under high applied voltage. XRD analysis of glass-ceramic confirmed the presence of crystalline phases with suitable CTEs, after electrical resistivity under harsh conditions.  相似文献

Diacylglycerol kinases are intracellular enzymes that control the balance between the secondary messengers diacylglycerol and phosphatidic acid. DGKα and DGKζ are the prominent isoforms that restrain the intensity of T cell receptor signalling by metabolizing PLCγ generated diacylglycerol. Thus, their activity must be tightly controlled to grant cellular homeostasis and refine immune responses. DGKα is specifically inhibited by strong T cell activating signals to allow for full diacylglycerol signalling which mediates T cell response. In X-linked lymphoproliferative disease 1, deficiency of the adaptor protein SAP results in altered T cell receptor signalling, due in part to persistent DGKα activity. This activity constrains diacylglycerol levels, attenuating downstream pathways such as PKCθ and Ras/MAPK and decreasing T cell restimulation induced cell death. This is a form of apoptosis triggered by prolonged T cell activation that is indeed defective in CD8+ cells of X-linked lymphoproliferative disease type 1 patients. Accordingly, inhibition or downregulation of DGKα activity restores in vitro a correct diacylglycerol dependent signal transduction, cytokines production and restimulation induced apoptosis. In animal disease models, DGKα inhibitors limit CD8+ expansion and immune-mediated tissue damage, suggesting the possibility of using inhibitors of diacylglycerol kinase as a new therapeutic approach.  相似文献

Oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathophysiology of retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy, which are the major causes of irreversible blindness in developed countries. An excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS) can directly cause functional and morphological impairments in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), endothelial cells, and retinal ganglion cells. Antioxidants may represent a preventive/therapeutic strategy and reduce the risk of progression of AMD. Among antioxidants, N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is widely studied and has been proposed to have therapeutic benefit in treating AMD by mitigating oxidative damage in RPE. Here, we demonstrate that N-acetyl-L-cysteine ethyl ester (NACET), a lipophilic cell-permeable cysteine derivative, increases the viability in oxidative stressed RPE cells more efficiently than NAC by reacting directly and more rapidly with oxidizing agents, and that NACET, but not NAC, pretreatment predisposes RPE cells to oxidative stress resistance and increases the intracellular reduced glutathione (GSH) pool available to act as natural antioxidant defense. Moreover, we demonstrate the ability of NACET to increase GSH levels in rats’ eyes after oral administration. In conclusion, even if experiments in AMD animal models are still needed, our data suggest that NACET may play an important role in preventing and treating retinal diseases associated with oxidative stress, and may represent a valid and more efficient alternative to NAC in therapeutic protocols in which NAC has already shown promising results.  相似文献

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells isolated from both bone marrow (BMSCs) and adipose tissue (ADSCs) show potential therapeutic effects. These vesicles often show a similar beneficial effect on tissue regeneration, but in some contexts, they exert different biological properties. To date, a comparison of their molecular cargo that could explain the different biological effect is not available. Here, we demonstrated that ADSC-EVs, and not BMSC-EVs, promote wound healing on a murine model of diabetic wounds. Besides a general similarity, the bioinformatic analysis of their protein and miRNA cargo highlighted important differences between these two types of EVs. Molecules present exclusively in ADSC-EVs were highly correlated to angiogenesis, whereas those expressed in BMSC-EVs were preferentially involved in cellular proliferation. Finally, in vitro analysis confirmed that both ADSC and BMSC-EVs exploited beneficial effect on cells involved in skin wound healing such as fibroblasts, keratinocytes and endothelial cells, but through different cellular processes. Consistent with the bioinformatic analyses, BMSC-EVs were shown to mainly promote proliferation, whereas ADSC-EVs demonstrated a major effect on angiogenesis. Taken together, these results provide deeper comparative information on the cargo of ADSC-EVs and BMSC-EVs and the impact on regenerative processes essential for diabetic wound healing.  相似文献

Fungal LysM effector proteins can dampen plant host–defence responses, protecting hyphae from plant chitinases, but little is known on these effectors from nonpathogenic fungal endophytes. We found four putative LysM effectors in the genome of the endophytic nematophagous fungus Pochonia chlamydosporia (Pc123). All four genes encoding putative LysM effectors are expressed constitutively by the fungus. Additionally, the gene encoding Lys1—the smallest one—is the most expressed in banana roots colonised by the fungus. Pc123 Lys1, 2 and 4 display high homology with those of other strains of the fungus and phylogenetically close entomopathogenic fungi. However, Pc123 Lys3 displays low homology with other fungi, but some similarities are found in saprophytes. This suggests evolutionary divergence in Pc123 LysM effectors. Additionally, molecular docking shows that the NAcGl binding sites of Pc123 Lys 2, 3 and 4 are adjacent to an alpha helix. Putative LysM effectors from fungal endophytes, such as Pc123, differ from those of plant pathogenic fungi. LysM motifs from endophytic fungi show clear conservation of cysteines in Positions 13, 51 and 63, unlike those of plant pathogens. LysM effectors could therefore be associated with the lifestyle of a fungus and give us a clue of how organisms could behave in different environments.  相似文献

Skutterudite‐type pnictides based on CoSb3 are promising semiconductor materials for thermoelectric applications. An exhaustive structural characterization by synchrotron X‐ray powder diffraction of different M‐filled CoSb3 (M = Y, K, Sr, La, Ce, Yb) skutterudites, with a panoply of M atoms with very different chemical nature, allows to better understand the effects of filling from a crystallo‐chemical point of view. These analyses focus on the correlation of chemical and structural features with the enhanced thermoelectric properties displayed by certain families of filled‐CoSb3 skutterudites. These are mainly determined by Sb positional parameters, yielding Oftedal plots that depend on the filling fraction, ionic state, and atomic radius of the filler. Together with the distortion of [Sb4] rings and [CoSb6] octahedra present in the skutterudite structure, these results are linked to the band‐convergence concept and its influence on the thermoelectric transport properties. Here, the structural changes observed in the different chemical compositions are relevant to understand the improved thermoelectric performance of single partially filled n‐type skutterudites.  相似文献
