Propolis has been proposed as a polyphenolic‐rich natural product potentially able to be used for human consumption or even for medicinal proposes. To guarantee a minimum phenolic and flavonoid content and as consequence of their related‐biological activities, international requirements of propolis quality are commonly applied. In this work we assessed phenolic and flavonoid contents of propolis; the antioxidant capacity (toward peroxyl radicals and hypochlorous acid); the ability to generate nitric oxide (NO); and, finally the antimicrobial activity of 6 propolis samples from the VI region of Chile. Our results show that the total phenolic and flavonoid content of propolis samples are not always in agreement with their polyphenolic‐associated in vitro activities. For example, P03 and P06 samples showed the lowest (25 ± 4 GAE/g propolis) and the highest (105 ± 3 GAE/g propolis) total phenolic content, respectively. This was in agreement with flavonoid content and their Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) activity. However, this dependence was not observed toward HOCl, NO release and antimicrobial activity. Based on our results, we consider that, in order to guarantee the antioxidant or antimicrobial in vitro effects, the international regulations of propolis quality should contemplate the convenience of incorporating other simple analytical test such as ORAC or antimicrobial tests.  相似文献

The authors of this study investigated task switching following cerebellar damage. The study group consisted of 7 children and adolescents (M age = 13.8 years) who underwent surgical removal of a benign posterior fossa tumor. They were tested at a sufficient interval after surgery (M lag = 6.13 years) for restoration of normal cognitive skills and intelligence. Although all showed normal learning of the task compared with control participants, when rapid behavioral changes were required (short preparation time), they exhibited behavioral rigidity manifested by enhanced switching cost. These results are in line with another study on serial reaction time with the same patients (A. Berger et al., in press). They have important implications for our understanding of the cognitive sequelae of early cerebellar damage as well as the involvement of the cerebellum in task switching. Previous studies deconfounding spatial and temporal proximity during map learning have found a temporal influence on mental map organization. The authors explored whether this observed priming effect reflected the manner in which a map was learned by having people either name objects or point to them during learning. Naming objects resulted in temporal organization but pointing to objects resulted in spatial organization, suggesting that mental map organization is sensitive to emphasizing different types of map information during learning. The authors also explored whether the temporal organization observed in the naming group was influenced by the ease of using spatial information during learning, such as when the expectancy to use spatial information was made explicit or when a consistent temporal order was absent. When naming map objects, evidence for a spatial organization was weak, whereas a temporal organization was observed when a consistent temporal order was present. A study is reported on the effect of the filler size and concentration on the electrical resistivity, density, and hardness of composites made of copper powder embedded in nylon 6 matrix by means of compression molding. The electrical resistivity of the composites is > 1011 ohm·cm unless the metal content reached the percolation threshold, beyond which the resistivity decreased markedly by as much as 1012. The percolation concentration was found to decrease with a decrease in the average particle diameter. The density of the composites was measured and compared with values calculated assuming different void levels within the samples. However, there is no sharp variation in the density due to the onset of percolation. Furthermore, it is shown that a percolation concentration can be also defined in the hardness/metal concentration curves as the intercept of linear regression curves of the low and high metal content regimes, respectively.  相似文献

Three commercial phage sensitive Lactobacillus delbrueckii strains (identified as Ab(1), YSD V and Ib(3)), and four spontaneous phage-resistant mutants isolated from them were tested for their capacity to activate the gut mucosal immune response in mice, as indicated by the numbers of IgA-producing cells. Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis revealed a strong genetic homology between the sensitive strains and their respective derivatives. The phage-resistant mutants exhibited high levels of phage resistance, elevated stability of this phenotype and technological properties comparable to those of their respective parent strains. The tolerance to acidic conditions, bile salts and lysozyme was strain dependent and total cell viability losses as a result of exposure to all three stresses ranged from 2.0 to 3.7 log units. All the strains were highly resistant to a simulated gastric solution of pH 3, while significant additional losses in cell viability were observed when acid treated cells were exposed to bile salts and lysozyme. BALB/c mice received pure cultures of Lb. delbrueckii sensitive and phage-resistant strains for 2, 5 or 7 consecutive days. The ability of the parent strains to activate the small intestine immune response was preserved or enhanced in phage-resistant mutants. The maximal proliferation of IgA(+) cells was observed at day 5 or 7, depending on the strain. Mutants isolated in this study using natural selection strategies had improved phage resistance, adequate technological properties and satisfactory gut mucosal immunostimulation ability, and so would be good candidates for industrial applications in functional foods.  相似文献

A thermogravimetric method for the measurement of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen in aluminum nitride is described. Since carbon oxidation occurs at lower temperatures than the oxidation of the aluminum compounds, thermogravimetric analyses in the respective temperature regimes can yield measurement of the oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon content. Thermogravimetric analyses were performed on mixtures of aluminum nitride and carbon with various concentrations in order to evaluate the accuracy of this method. The results were compared with those obtained by the hot gas extraction method. Errors produced by overlapping of the temperature ranges of the reactions were evaluated and experimental conditions were optimized to minimize error. This method can produce reliable results at elemental concentrations higher than a few percent. The absolute errors of the C/AI, N/Al, and O/Al atomic ratios were less then 0.02. The detection limit was evaluated to 0.2 wt% of each element. The applicability of the method to the study of the kinetics of the nitridation reaction was demonstrated.  相似文献

In the present paper, two gas‐liquid stirred tanks, one agitated by a radial impeller and another by an axial impeller, are modelled using the open‐source computational fluid dynamic (CFD) package OpenFOAM (open source field operation and manipulation). The combined effect of the bubble break‐up and coalescence in the tank is considered by a population balance model (PBM) called extended quadrature method of moments (EQMOM). The three‐dimensional simulation is made using a multiple reference frame (MRF), a well‐established method for the modelling of mixers. Dispersed gas and bubble dynamics in the turbulent flow are modelled using the Eulerian‐Eulerian approach (E‐E) with mixture k‐epsilon turbulent model and the modified Tomiyama drag coefficient for the momentum exchange. The model is developed to predict the spatial distribution of gas phase fraction, Sauter mean bubble diameter (), number density function (NDF), dissolved oxygen (DO) evolution, and flow structure. The numerical results are compared with experimental data and a fair agreement is achieved. The results of the axial impeller are discussed based on four impeller rotational speeds with different volumetric mass transfer coefficients.  相似文献

The structure and properties of poly(ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate)s (pECNs) cured at 25?°C during 24?hours, and post-cured at different temperatures (45-90?°C) and times (2-6?hours) were studied. Irrespective of the post-cure conditions, pECN was not fully polymerized and two different structures of different molecular weights and topographies were obtained. The post-cure decreased the shear strength values in joints made with aluminum and ethyl cyanoacrylate due to the decrease in the percentage of higher molecular weight polymeric chains and the formation of new short polymeric chains by unzipping de-polymerization mechanism, both contributed to decrease the mechanical properties. On the other hand, the post-cure changed the morphology of pECN because of nano-spheres were produced by curing at 25?°C which were not present after post-cure at 90?°C.  相似文献
