An attempt was made to prepare chitosan microspheres by an emulsion-phase separation technique but without the usual use of glutaraldehyde as a cross-linking agent. Instead, ionotropic gelation was employed in a w/o emulsion. The effect of formulation factors was examined. The results showed that microspheres so formed were spherical, free-flowing, and had smooth surfaces. The rate of addition of counterions was important. Gelation of chitosan droplets should take place before the destabilizing effect of the counterions occurred. This effect is associated with the increase in aqueous phase volume when the counterion solution is incorporated.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that N-[(1S, trans)-2-hydroxycyclopentyl]adenosine (GR79236), a novel adenosine A1 receptor agonist, would suppress sleep-related apnea in the rat at doses not associated with hypotension or hypothermia. Nine adult Sprague-Dawley rats were instrumented for chronic recording of sleep by electroencephalographic and electromyographic monitoring. Respirations were measured by single chamber plethysmograph, and blood pressure and heart period were transduced by a telemetric implant. Each rat was polygraphically recorded for 6 hours on four occasions in random order, with recordings for an individual animal separated by at least 3 days. Fifteen minutes prior to each recording (0945 hours) each animal received a 1 ml/kg intraperitoneal bolus injection of one of four injectates: saline (control) or 0.03 mg/kg, 0.3 mg/kg, or 3 mg/kg of GR79236. The study was a repeated-measures balanced design such that each animal was recorded exactly once for each injectate. The rate of spontaneous apneas (pauses > 2.5 seconds) was significantly reduced during all sleep stages by all doses of GR79236. At the highest dose, apnea index was reduced by over 70% in both non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. In contrast, GR79236 had no effect on sleep stage volumes or blood pressure at any dose tested. Heart rate and core temperature were reduced only at the highest dose (3 mg/kg). We conclude that the adenosine A1 receptor agonist GR79236 significantly suppresses apnea expression in all sleep stages at doses not associated with significant changes in sleep architecture, blood pressure, heart rate, or core temperature.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to study the application of the dehydration by successive pressure drops (DDS) process to different varieties of paddy rice initially treated by the instantaneous controlled pressure drop (DIC), which is a high-temperature, short time postharvest treatment (moisture content about 20-25% dry basis) and takes less than 30 s. DIC paddy rice is dried by DDS in a relatively short time and a high milling quality is obtained (12-13% db in about 2 h). The final rice is white, easily distinguishing it from the standard parboiled one. Without a tempering period, DDS rice has less than 3% of broken grains, with a high organoleptic quality (preservation of the natural aroma with a firm and non-sticky texture), and the cooking time of both brown (whole) and white DIC rice is very short (15 and 7 min, respectively).  相似文献

An instrumented bicycle was used to elucidate particulate matter exposures along bicycle routes passing through a variety of land uses over 14 days during summer and fall in a mid-latitude traffic dominated urban setting. Overall, exposures were low or comparable to those found in studies elsewhere (mean PM(2.5) and PM(10) concentrations over each daily bicycle traverse varied between 7-34 microg m(-3) and 26-77 microg m(-3) respectively). Meteorological factors were responsible for significant day-to-day variability with PM(2.5) positively correlated with air temperature, PM(10) negatively correlated with precipitation, and ultrafine particles negatively correlated with both air temperature and wind speed. On individual days, land use and proximity to traffic were factors significantly affecting exposure along designated bicycle routes. While concentrations of PM(2.5) were found to be relatively spatially uniform over the length of the study route, PM(10) showed a more heterogeneous spatial distribution. Specifically, construction sites and areas susceptible to the suspension of road dust have higher concentrations of coarse particles. Ultrafine particles were also heterogeneously distributed in space, with areas with heavy traffic volumes having the highest concentrations. Observations show qualitative agreement in terms of spatial patterns with a land-use regression (LUR) model for annual PM(2.5) concentrations.  相似文献

In this study, we developed novel hybrid models namely Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) optimized by Shuffled Complex Evolution (SCE) on the one hand and ANFIS with Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) on the other hand. These were used to predict compressive strength (Cs) of concrete relating to thirteen concrete-strength affecting parameters which are easy to determine in the laboratory. Field and laboratory tests data of 108 structural elements of 18 concrete bridges of the Ha Long-Van Don Expressway, Vietnam were considered. The dataset was randomly divided into a 70:30 ratio, for training (70%) and testing (30%) of the hybrid models. Performance of the developed fuzzy metaheuristic models was evaluated using standard statistical metrics: Correlation Coefficient (R), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The results showed that both of the novel models depict close agreement between experimental and predicted results. However, the ANFIS-ABC model reflected better convergence of the results and better performance compared to that of ANFIS-SCE in the prediction of the concrete Cs. Thus, the ANFIS-ABC model can be used for the quick and accurate estimation of compressive strength of concrete based on easily determined parameters for the design of civil engineering structures including bridges.  相似文献

In this study, nanoparticles based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA), chitosan (CS), and nifedipine (NIF) were prepared by an emulsion method with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as an emulsifier. We investigated the most suitable conditions for preparing the poly(lactic acid)/chitosan/nifedipine nanoparticles (PCNs) by changing the distilled water volume, PEO content, and PLA/CS ratio. NIFs with different contents were loaded into poly(lactic acid)/chitosan nanoparticles (PCs) to study in vitro drug‐delivery systems. The PCNs were characterized with a Zetasizer particle size analyzer, field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) methods. From the obtained results of the particle size parameters of the PCNs, the most suitable conditions for the preparation of the PCNs were found. The FTIR spectroscopy and XRD results show that NIF was loaded into the PCs. The PCNs had major basic particle sizes in the range 20–40 nm. NIF release from the PCNs was studied as a function of the pH of the immersed solution, the immersion time, and the NIF content. The effects of three different extraction methods, namely hydrodistillation, supercritical CO2 extraction (SCE) and hexane extraction on the yield, chemical composition and antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of lavender essential oil were investigated in this study. SCE produced a yield of 6.7 % (dry weight), which was comparable to that of solvent extraction (7.6 %), but significantly higher than that of hydrodistillation (4.6 %). The chemical composition of the oils showed considerable variations among the extraction methods, with linalool, linalyl acetate, camphor and borneol making up approximately 80 % of identified components in all extracts. Hexane extraction produced oils with the presence of waxes, colour pigments and albuminious materials with semi-solid consistency, while hydrodistillation extracts showed signs of thermal degradation. The SCE extracts had an aroma with the closest resemblance to the starting material, showing negligible thermal degradation, and exhibited significantly higher antioxidant activity than the hydrodistillation and hexane extracts. Oils produced by SCE and hydrodistillation had antimicrobial activities higher than hexane extracts. The results of this study demonstrate that SCE is a promising process for the extraction of lavender essential oil.  相似文献

It is shown that Au?Czinc oxide?Calumina catalysts are suitable for the water?Cgas shift reaction and for methanol (MeOH) and DME synthesis, indicating their use in a direct single-stage process for converting syngas to a DME?+?methanol mixture. Temperatures above 340?°C were required in order to obtain reasonable catalytic activity. A 67?% DME selectivity was achieved at 380?°C with a low space velocity 0.75?dm3?h?1?g?1 and 50?bar. The lower CO conversions at the higher temperature of 460?°C was probably due to the MeOH equilibrium limitation in the range of temperatures 340 to 460?°C, but deactivation is observed as well, above 460?°C. Au/ZnO/??-Al2O3 is more stable than traditional copper-based catalysts, which are stable below about 300?°C, and then only in the absence of water. The gold composite catalyst was mainly selective toward DME, MeOH and CH4, and to C2 to C5 hydrocarbons. An analysis of the main reactions involved indicates that only the methanol synthesis reaction reaches a near-equilibrium situation, with the other reactions being under kinetic control.  相似文献

The effect of blockage ratio on the early phase of the flame acceleration process was investigated in an obstructed square cross-section channel. Flame acceleration was promoted by an array of top-and bottom-surface mounted obstacles that were distributed along the entire channel length at an equal spacing corresponding to one channel height. It was determined that flame acceleration is more pronounced for higher blockage obstacles during the initial stage of flame acceleration up to a flame velocity below the speed of sound of the reactants. The progression of the flame shape and flame area was determined by constructing a series of three-dimensional flame surface models using synchronized orthogonal schlieren images. A novel schlieren based photographic technique was used to visualize the unburned gas flow field ahead of the flame front. A small amount of helium gas is injected into the channel before ignition, and the evolution of the helium diluted unburned gas pocket is tracked simultaneously with the flame front. Using this technique the formation of a vortex downstream of each obstacle was observed. The size of the vortex increases with time until it reaches the channel wall and completely spans the distance between adjacent obstacles. A shear layer develops separating the core flow from the recirculation zone between the obstacles. The evolution of oscillations in centerline flame velocity is discussed in the context of the development of these flow structures in the unburned gas.  相似文献
