Thin‐film silicon solar cells often rely on a metal back reflector separated from the silicon layers by a thin rear dielectric as a back reflector (BR) design. In this work, we aim to obtain a better insight into the influence of the rear‐dielectric/Ag BR design on the optical performance of hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (µc‐Si:H) solar cells. To allow the application of a large variety of rear dielectrics combined with Ag BRs of diverse topographies, the solar cell is equipped with a local electrical contact scheme that enables the use of non‐conductive rear dielectrics such as air or transparent liquids of various refractive indices n. With this approach, detached Ag BRs having the desire surface texture can be placed behind the same solar cell, yielding a direct and precise evaluation of their impact on the optical cell performance. The experiments show that both the external quantum efficiency and the device absorptance are improved with decreasing n and increasing roughness of the BR. Calculations of the angular intensity distribution of the scattered light in the µc‐Si:H are presented. They allow for establishing a consistent picture of the light trapping in the solar cell. Decreased left ventricular ejection fraction is the most commonly used risk factor for identification of patients at high-risk for lethal ventricular arrhythmic events. Twenty-four-hour electrocardiographic (ECG) approaches to risk stratification include: counts of ventricular premature contractions (VPCs), measures of heart rate variability (HRV), and heart rate turbulence (HRT) which has two components, turbulence onset and turbulence slope (TS). Refinement of these ECG risk stratifiers could enhance their clinical utility. We explored the structural relationships between heart rate (HR) and HRV and HRT measures. Our goal was to separate out the component of these measures due to the underlying average heart rate (HR), thus potentially reducing the variability of the measures and increasing their power to stratify risk. We proposed re-scaling tachograms of heart-beat intervals so that the re-scaled tachogram has a HR of 75 (or equivalently an average interval of 800 ms) and calculating HRV and HRT from the rescaled time series. We also explored the relationship between the number of VPCs and HRT. We showed that TS is structurally related to the number of VPCs (and hence to the length of the ECG recording). We proposed an adjusted TS that is independent of the number of VPCs. We also addressed the ability of shorter ECG recording to estimate HRV and HRT measures. We evaluated standard and rescaled HRV and HRT measures using qualifying ambulatory ECG recordings from 744 patients in the Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial. We found that measures based on the rescaled tachogram had reduced variance (20% to 40%). Correlations between measures were also substantially reduced. We also found substantial circadian effects on some, but not all HRV indices, not explained by the circadian pattern in HR and possibly pointing to additional measures for risk prediction. In conclusion, we found that adjusting for HR and the number of VPCs in heart-beat related ambulatory ECG measures has the potential to significantly improve the power of these measures to risk stratify cardiac patients. 相似文献

The ability to communicate with our voice can be regarded as the concatenation of the two processes "phonation" and "modulation." These take place in the larynx and palatal and oral region, respectively. During phonation the audible primary voice signal is created by mutual reaction of vocal folds with the exhaled air stream of the lungs. The underlying interactions of masses, fluids and acoustics have yet to be identified and understood. One part of the primary signal's acoustical source are vortex induced vibrations, as e.g., created by the Coand?effect in the air stream. The development of these vorteces is determined by the shape and 3-D movements of the vocal folds in the larynx. Current clinical in vivo research methods for vocal folds do not deliver data of satisfactory quality for fundamental research, e.g., an endoscope is limited to 2-D image information. Based hereupon, a few improved methods have been presented, however delivering only selective 3-D information, either for a single point or a line. This stands in contrast to the 3-D motions of the entire vocal fold surface. More complex imaging methods, such as MRI, do not deliver information in real-time. Thus, it is necessary to develop an easily applicable, more improved examination method, which allows for 3-D data of the vocal folds surfaces to be obtained. We present a method to calibrate a 3-D reconstruction setup including a laser projection system and a high-speed camera. The setup is designed with miniaturization and an in vivo application in mind. The laser projection system generates a divergent grid of 196 laser dots by diffraction gratings. It is calibrated with a planar calibration target through planar homography. In general, the setup allows to reconstruct the topology of a surface at high frame rates (up to 4000 frames per second) and in uncontrollable environments, as e.g., given by the lighting situation (little to no ambient light) and varying texture (e.g., varying grade of reflection) in the human larynx. In particular, this system measures the 3-D vocal fold surface dynamics during phonation. Applied to synthetic data, the calibration is shown to be robust (error approximately 0.5 μm) regarding noise and systematic errors. Experimental data gained with a linear z -stage proved that the system reconstructs the 3-D coordinates of points with an error at approximately 15 μm. The method was applied exemplarily to reconstruct porcine and artificial vocal folds' surfaces during phonation. Local differences such as asymmetry between left and right fold dynamics, as well as global parameters, such as opening and closing speed and maximum displacements, were identified and quantified. 相似文献

Malt‐induced gushing is a problem that has been known for many years. Mechanisms and inducing agents are still not fully understood and identified. Hydrophobins produced by various filamentous fungi are currently under discussion as biological gushing‐inducing compounds. In the current study the class II hydrophobin FcHyd5p, from the cereal pathogen Fusarium culmorum, was employed in beer and other carbonated beverages for gushing experiments and the influence of hop compounds on gushing potential was examined. It was demonstrated that this protein strongly induces gushing in various carbonated beverages, including beer. It was further demonstrated that the resulting gushing volume is susceptible to certain hop compounds and can be decreased significantly by the addition of these substances. 相似文献

In contrast to polymer membranes, ceramic membranes offer considerable advantages for safe drinking water provision due to their excellent chemical, thermal, and mechanical endurance. In this study, porous ceramic microtubes made of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) are presented, which are conditioned for bacteria filtration by immobilizing lysozyme as an antibacterial enzyme. In accordance with determined membrane pore sizes of the nonfunctionalized microtube of ≤200 nm, log reduction values (LRV) of nearly 3 (i.e., bacterial retention of 99.9%) were obtained for bacterial retention studies using gram-positive model bacterium Micrococcus luteus. Immobilization studies of lysozyme on the membrane surface reveal an up to six times higher lysozyme loading for the covalent immobilization route as compared to unspecific immobilization. Antibacterial activity of lysozyme-functionalized microtubes was assessed by qualitative agar plate test using Micrococcus luteus as substrate showing that both the unspecific and the covalent lysozyme immobilization enhance the microtubes' antibacterial properties. Quantification of the enzyme activity at flow conditions by photometric assays reveals that the enzyme activities of lysozyme-functionalized microtubes depend strongly on applied flow rates. Intracapillary feeding of bacteria solution and higher flow rates lead to reduced enzyme activities. In consideration of different applied flow rates in the range of 0.2-0.5 mL/min, the total lysozyme activity increases by a factor of 2 for the covalent immobilization route as compared to the unspecific binding. Lysozyme leaching experiments at flow conditions for 1 h show a significant higher amount of washed-out lysozyme (factor 1.7-3.4) for the unspecific immobilization route when compared to the covalent route where the initial level of antibacterial effectiveness could be achieved by reimmobilization with lysozyme. Surface waxes from the skins of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum) and eggplant (Solanum melongena) were rinsed with tert-butylmethyl ether (TBME). The wax components were separated into two fractions by elution from a small silica gel column with toluene/hexane (2+1) followed by methanol. They were identified by GC/MS and quantitatively determined by GC/FID. For 12 bell pepper cultivars, fraction 1 made up 39% of the total and contained mainly n-alkanes C20–C35 (with C31 dominating), iso-alkanes C25–C35, and some aldehydes. The 61% of fraction 2 consisted of 15 triterpenes, namely - and -amyrin, lupeol, glutinol, 3-friedelanol, friedelin, taraxerol, taraxasterol, -amyrin, germanicol, multiflorenol, -taraxasterol, isomultiflorenol, isobauerenol and bauerenol, as well as n-alkanoic acids C16–C32, 2-hydroxy-alkanoic acids C20–C26 and traces of n-alkanols and phytosterols (campesterol, stigmasterol and -sitosterol). For the three eggplant cultivars, 77% of fraction 1 was obtained with (in decreasing order) n-alkanes C23–C36, anteiso-alkanes C29–C36, iso-alkanes C27–C35, and some aldehydes. In the 23% of fraction 2, the n-alkanoic acids C16–C32 predominated compared with the 2-hydroxy-alkanoic acids C22–C26, the n-alkanols C24–C29, triterpenols (- and -amyrin, lupeol, germanicol) and sterols (stigmasterol and -sitosterol). 相似文献

We quantified translocation of Escherichia coli O157:H7 (ECOH) and non-O157:H7 verocytotoxigenic E. coli (STEC) into beef subprimals after brine injection and subsequently monitored their viability after cooking steaks cut therefrom. Beef subprimals were inoculated on the lean side with ca. 6.0 log CFU/g of a five-strain cocktail of rifampin-resistant ECOH or kanamycin-resistant STEC, and then passed once through an automatic brine-injector tenderizer, with the lean side facing upward. Brine solutions (9.9% ± 0.3% over fresh weight) consisted of 3.3% (wt/vol) of sodium tripolyphosphate and 3.3% (wt/vol) of sodium chloride, prepared both with (Lac(+), pH = 6.76) and without (Lac(-), pH = 8.02) a 25% (vol/vol) solution of a 60% potassium lactate-sodium diacetate syrup. For all samples injected with Lac(-) or Lac(+) brine, levels of ECOH or STEC recovered from the topmost 1 cm (i.e., segment 1) of a core sample obtained from tenderized subprimals ranged from ca. 4.7 to 6.3 log CFU/g; however, it was possible to recover ECOH or STEC from all six segments of all cores tested. Next, brine-injected steaks from tenderized subprimals were cooked on a commercial open-flame gas grill to internal endpoint temperatures of either 37.8 °C (100 °F), 48.8 °C (120 °F), 60 °C (140 °F), or 71.1 °C (160 °F). Regardless of brine formulation or temperature, cooking achieved reductions (expressed as log CFU per gram) of 0.3 to 4.1 of ECOH and 0.5 to 3.6 of STEC. However, fortuitous survivors were recovered even at 71.1 °C (160 °F) for ECOH and for STEC. Thus, ECOH and STEC behaved similarly, relative to translocation and thermal destruction: Tenderization via brine injection transferred both pathogens throughout subprimals and cooking highly contaminated, brine-injected steaks on a commercial gas grill at 71.1 °C (160 °F) did not kill all cells due, primarily, to nonuniform heating (i.e., cold spots) within the meat. 相似文献
