A semi-empirical nonlinear model of moisture content and wet-milling quality degradation in com drying is established. The model uncertainty is expressed as a relative error level which includes a pre-specified percentage of experimental data. An optimal control strategy for batch drying is determined which maximizes the dryer throughput, while simultaneously satisfying two quality constraints on the final state: achieving specified moisture content and wet-milling quality levels. Taking into account the model uncertainty results in a conservative but less efficient control strategy. The performance - robustness compromise is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of gate-length variation on DC and RF performance of InAs/AlSb HEMTs, biased for low DC power consumption or high gain, is reported. Simultaneously fabricated devices, with gate lengths between 225 nm and 335 nm, have been compared. DC measurements revealed higher output conductance gds and slightly increased impact ionization with reduced gate length. When reducing the gate length from 335 nm to 225 nm, the DC power consumption was reduced by approximately 80% at an fT of 120 GHz. Furthermore, a 225 nm gate-length HEMT biased for high gain exhibited an extrinsic fT of 165 GHz and an extrinsic fmax of 115 GHz, at a DC power consumption of 100 mW/mm. When biased for low DC power consumption of 20 mW/mm the same HEMT exhibited an extrinsic fT and fmax of 120 GHz and 110 GHz, respectively.  相似文献

We develop a laboratory paradigm for studying prospective memory and examine whether or not this type of memory is especially difficult for the elderly. In two experiments, young and old subjects were given a prospective memory test (they were asked to perform an action when a target event occurred) and three tests of retrospective memory (short-term memory, free recall, and recognition). From the perspective that aging disrupts mainly self-initiated retrieval processes, large age-related decrements in prospective memory were anticipated. However, despite showing reliable age differences on retrospective memory tests, both experiments showed no age deficits in prospective memory. Moreover, regression analyses produced no reliable relation between the prospective and retrospective memory tasks. Also, the experiments showed that external aids and unfamiliar target events benefit prospective memory performance. We present a computer tool for testing walk hypotheses for human beings. This tool aims to generate plausible walking movements according to anatomical knowledge. To this end, we introduce an interpolation method based, on one hand, on morphological data and, on the other hand, on stance hypotheses and on footprint hypotheses. We want to test these hypotheses for application to the reconstruction of early hominid walking. We interpolate from a specific representation of the movement—a characteristic relative displacement. First, we use a motion capture system to acquire real movements of a walk cycle, and we propose to represent them by using a generic parametric model. Thus, we create a database of movements. The interpolation process produces, thanks to this database, a retargeted motion adapted to the morphology of the considered targeted skeleton. The interpolation is done according to three main hypotheses. The first concerns the reference stance, the second the lateral spacing between the feet, and the third the length of the step. In the introduction, we refer to related work. Then we propose the two following points of our method: the 3D representation of our motion representation and the multidimensional interpolation method applied to this representation. The interpolation method addresses morphological adaptation, and the use of an inverse kinematics solver addresses the computation of skeleton movements. The self-coherent validation process aims to test the coherence of the proposed method. The results propose an application to a virtual skeleton of Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis A.L. 288-1) reconstructed from real data. Finally, the relevance of the method for anthropological investigations and for animation purposes is discussed and future work is discussed with respect to the limitations of the proposed method.  相似文献

Cyclic peptides containing redox‐stable thioether bridges might provide a useful alternative to disulfide‐bridged bioactive peptides. We report the effect of replacing the disulfide bridge with a lanthionine linkage in a 16‐mer cyclic peptide that binds to death receptor 5 (DR5, TRAIL‐R2). Upon covalent oligomerisation, the disulfide‐bridged peptide has previously shown similar behaviour to that of TNF‐related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL), by selectively triggering the DR5 cell death pathway. The structural and biological properties of the DR5‐binding peptide and its desulfurised analogue were compared. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) data suggest that these peptides bind DR5 with comparable affinities. The same holds true for dimeric versions of these peptides: the thioether is able to induce DR5‐mediated apoptosis of BJAB lymphoma and tumorigenic BJELR cells, albeit to a slightly lower extent compared to its disulfide homologue. NMR analysis revealed subtle variation in the conformations of the two peptides and suggests that the thioether peptide is slightly less folded than its disulfide homologue. These observations could account for the different capability of the two dimers to cluster DR5 receptors on the cell surface and to trigger apoptosis. Nevertheless, our results suggest that the thioether peptide is a potential candidate for evaluation in animal models.  相似文献

Fabrication of high‐quality ultrathin monocrystalline silicon layers and their transfer to low‐cost substrates are key steps for flexible electronics and photovoltaics. In this work, we demonstrate a low‐temperature and low‐cost process for ultrathin silicon solar cells. By using standard plasma‐enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), we grow high‐quality epitaxial silicon layers (epi‐PECVD) from SiH4/H2 gas mixtures at 175 °C. Using secondary ion mass spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy, we show that the porosity of the epi‐PECVD/crystalline silicon interface can be tuned by controlling the hydrogen accumulation there. Moreover, we demonstrate that 13–14% porosity is a threshold above which the interface becomes fragile and can easily be cleaved. Taking advantage of the H‐rich interface fragility, we demonstrate the transfer of large areas (∽10 cm2) ultrathin epi‐PECVD layers (0.5–5.5 µm) onto glass substrates by anodic bonding and moderate annealing (275–350 °C). The structural properties of transferred layers are assessed, and the first PECVD epitaxial silicon solar cells transferred on glass are characterized. Traditionally, the evolution and rise of the dust and soot cloud resulting from high explosive detonations has been divided into two stages, with specific models used for each stage. In this study, based on the assumption that cloud formation progresses smoothly from stage to stage, a simple cloud rise model has been developed based on three sets of field tests of high explosive detonations (25×10−3 to 4.5 kg of detasheet and C‐4). This model provides a good fit to observations and measurements of clouds from detonations both at ground level and 1 m above the ground. It was also found that the detonation height has a noticeable influence on cloud rise before reaching its effective height, but the influence is minor on the subsequent cloud rise.  相似文献

The Riverstrahler model of ecological functioning of large drainage networks validated on the Seine river system has been used for calculating the seasonal variations of Production and Respiration at various spatial scales (e.g. according to river orders). Based on the measurements of biological processes, the P/R ratio has led to an evaluation of the "ecological functioning", beyond the notion of "good ecological status". Furthermore, the effects, on the P/R ratio, of the geomorphological and climate factors characterizing the Hydro-Eco-Regions (HER) of the Seine watershed have been quantitatively explored with the model. Whereas one finds a typical upstream-downstream pattern of the P/R ratio variations under the traditional rural conditions that prevailed in the Seine basin until the end of the 18th century, this pattern is strongly affected by the changes in urban populations and the implementation of wastewater collection and treatment, more than by the specificity of the physical factors characterizing the different HER. We have also found that autotrophy (a P/R ratio >1) might leads to eutrophication symptoms when P exceeds 1-2 mg C m(-2) d(-1) and that heterotrophy of the system (P/R ratio< 1) would reveal organic pollution when R exceeds 1-2 mg C m(-2) d(-1), stocks and fluxes of organic matter being expressed in carbon unit. Consequently, the P/R ratio appears as a good indicator of the perturbations caused by human activities in the watershed. The Riverstrahler model is able to quantify this effect.  相似文献

The mineralogy and solubility of air-pollution-control (APC) residues from a secondary lead (Pb) smelter have been studied on samples from the Príbram smelter, Czech Republic, recycling car batteries, with the emphasis on their potential environmental effect. The presence of dominant anglesite (PbSO4) and laurionite (Pb(OH)Cl) was observed in a sintered residue from after-burning chambers (800-1000 degrees C). In contrast, low-temperature Pb-bearing phases, such as KCl x 2PbCl2 and caracolite (Na3Pb2(SO4)3Cl), were detected in the major APC residue from bag-type fabric filters. Metallic elements, zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), and tin (Sn) were found homogeneously distributed within this residue. The formation of anglesite, cotunnite (PbCl2), (Zn,Cd)2SnO4, and (Sb,As)2O3 was observed during the sintering of this APC residue at 500 degrees C in a rotary furnace. The 168 h leaching test on filter residue, representing the fraction that may escape the flue gas treatment system, indicated rapid release of Pb and other contaminants. Caracolite and KCl x 2PbCl2 are significantly dissolved, and anglesite and cotunnite form the alteration products, as was confirmed by mineralogical analysis and PHREEQC-2 modeling. The observed Pb-bearing chlorides have significantly higher solubility than anglesite and, following emission from the smelter stack, can readily dissolve, transferring Pb into the environmental milieu (soils, water, inhabited areas).  相似文献
