Classical single carrier cell planning is extended to multi-carrier systems operating over frequency selective channels. Extension is achieved by expressing the link outage probability in terms of the statistics of the effective SINR. Two approximations for the link outage probability are obtained by considering log-normal and Gaussian assumptions for the derivation of the statistics of the exponential effective SINR. A simplified planning procedure is presented and applied to the calculation of the network parameters for the typical two cells interference scenario. Results having accuracy within one dB are obtained for a number of sub-carriers greater than six and for an outage target of 5%. 相似文献

Characterisation of volatile compounds in an alcoholic beverage produced by whey fermentation 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An alcoholic beverage (35.4% v/v ethanol) was produced by distillation of the fermented broth obtained by continuous whey fermentation with a lactose-fermenting yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus. Forty volatile compounds were identified in this drink by gas chromatography. Higher alcohols were the most abundant group of volatile compounds present, with isoamyl, isobutyl, 1-propanol, and isopentyl alcohols being found in highest quantities (887, 542, 266, and 176 mg/l, respectively). Ethyl acetate had the highest concentration (138 mg/l) among the esters. Besides higher alcohols and esters, other components, including aldehydes, acids and terpenes were also identified in the whey spirit. Considering that the quality of an alcoholic beverage can be evaluated by the relation between isoamyl alcohol/2-methyl-1-propanol and 2-methyl-1-propanol/1-propanol, which have to be higher than unity, it was concluded that a novel spirit of acceptable organoleptic characteristics can be produced by cheese whey continuous fermentation with K. marxianus. 相似文献

An optimal power flow (OPF) methodology is developed to investigate the provision of a demand hydrogen as a means to maximise wind power generation in relation to a constrained electricity network. The use of excess wind energy to generate hydrogen for use as a transport fuel is investigated. Hydrogen demand is included in the objective function of the OPF, and a techno-economic analysis is presented. We conclude that using this method to generate hydrogen increases the utilisation of wind energy and allows for a hydrogen demand to be met at or near to the point of use. The OPF algorithm that has been developed optimises the amount of wind energy utilised, as well as minimising the amount of hydrogen demand not met. The cost at which the hydrogen is produced was found to be dependent on the operating methodology, component capital investment costs, level of hydrogen demand, and storage constraint. 相似文献

Cheese whey (CW) and deproteinised cheese whey (DCW) were investigated for their suitability as novel substrates for the production of kefir-like beverages. Lactose consumption, ethanol production, as well as organic acids and volatile compounds formation, were determined during CW and DCW fermentation by kefir grains and compared with values obtained during the production of traditional milk kefir. The results showed that kefir grains were able to utilise lactose from CW and DCW and produce similar amounts of ethanol (7.8–8.3 g/l), lactic acid (5.0 g/l) and acetic acid (0.7 g/l) to those obtained during milk fermentation. In addition, the concentration of higher alcohols (2-methyl-1-butanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, 1-hexanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, and 1-propanol), ester (ethyl acetate) and aldehyde (acetaldehyde) in cheese whey-based kefir and milk kefir beverages were also produced in similar amounts. The structure of a time-dependent methane/enriched-air flame established in an axisymmetric, laminar counterflow configuration is investigated, as the flame interacts with two counterpropagating toroidal vortices. Computationally, the time-dependent equations are written using a modified vorticity–velocity formulation, with detailed chemistry and transport, and are solved implicitly on a nonstaggered, nonuniform grid. Boundary conditions are chosen to create local extinction and reignition in the vicinity of the axis of symmetry. Experimentally, CO planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF), OH PLIF, and an observable proportional to the forward reaction rate (RR) of the reaction CO+OH→CO2+H are measured. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) is used to characterize the velocity field of the vortical structures and to provide detailed boundary conditions for the simulations. Excellent agreement is found between model and experiments to the minutest morphological details throughout the interaction. The validated model is then used to probe the dynamics of the two-dimensional extinction process with high temporal resolution. During the initial phase of the interaction, the flame is locally extinguished by the two vortices. The resulting edge flame propagates outward as an extinction front, with a structure that does not depart significantly from that of a diffusion flame. The front recedes from the axis of symmetry with a negative propagation speed that reaches a value as large as six times that of the freely propagating laminar flame with the same reactant concentrations found at the stoichiometric surface. As the front propagates outward, it transitions to an ignition front, and it reaches a positive propagation speed comparable to that of the freely propagating laminar flame. During this transition, it develops a characteristic premixed “hook,” with a lean premixed branch, a stoichiometric segment that evolves into the remnant of the original primary diffusion flame, and a much weaker secondary diffusion flame resulting from a secondary peak in heat release in the original unperturbed diffusion flame. No evidence of a distinct rich premixed flame is found. The edge flame stabilizes at a radial location where the local gaseous speed equals the propagation speed of the front. When the local perturbation has decayed below the flame propagation speed, the flame edge starts reigniting the mixing layer as an ignition wave that propagates with an essentially frozen structure along the stoichiometric surface until the original diffusion flame structure is fully recovered. In this paper are presented the results of the investigation on optimal process operational conditions of thermophilic dark fermentation and anaerobic digestion of food waste, testing a long-term run, applying an organic loading rate of 16.3 kgTVS/m3d in the first phase and 4.8 kgTVS/m3d in the second phase. The hydraulic retention times (HRTs) were maintained at 3.3 days and 12.6 days, respectively, for the first and second phase. Recirculation of anaerobic digested sludge, after a mild solid separation, was applied to the dark fermentation reactor in order to control the pH in the optimal hydrogen production range of 5–6. It was confirmed the possibility to obtain a stable hydrogen production, without using external chemicals for pH control, in a long-term test, with a specific hydrogen production of 66.7 l per kg of total volatile solid (TVS) fed and a specific biogas production in the second phase of 0.72 m3 per kgTVS fed; the produced biogas presented a typical composition with a stable presence of hydrogen and methane in the biogas mixture around 6 and 58%, respectively, carbon dioxide being the rest. 相似文献

Hydrogen was produced from primary sewage biosolids via mesophilic anaerobic fermentation in a continuously fed bioreactor. Prior to fermentation the sewage biosolids were heated to 70 °C for 1 h to inactivate methanogens and during fermentation a cellulose degrading enzyme was added to improve substrate availability. Hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 18, 24, 36 and 48 h were evaluated for the duration of hydrogen production. Without sparging a hydraulic retention time of 24 h resulted in the longest period of hydrogen production (3 days), during which a hydrogen yield of 21.9 L H2 kg−1 VS added to the bioreactor was achieved. Methods of preventing the decline of hydrogen production during continuous fermentation were evaluated. Of the techniques evaluated using nitrogen gas to sparge the bioreactor contents proved to be more effective than flushing just the headspace of the bioreactor. Sparging at 0.06 L L min−1 successfully prevented a decline in hydrogen production and resulted in a yield of 27.0 L H2 kg−1 VS added, over a period of greater than 12 days or 12 HRT. The use of sparging also delayed the build up of acetic acid in the bioreactor, suggesting that it serves to inhibit homoacetogenesis and thus maintain hydrogen production. 相似文献

The CO2 capture in Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plants causes a significant increase of the cost of electricity (COE) and thus determines high CO2 mitigation cost (cost per ton of avoided CO2 emissions). In this work the economic sustainability of the co-production of pure hydrogen in addition to the electricity production was assessed by detailed process simulations and a techno-economic analysis. To produce pure hydrogen a Water Gas Shift reactor and a Selexol® process was combined with H2 selective palladium membranes. This innovative process section was compared with the more conventional Pressure Swing Adsorption in order to produce amount of pure hydrogen up to 20% of the total hydrogen available in the syngas.Assuming for a base case a hydrogen selling price of 3 €/kg and a palladium membrane cost of 9200 €/m2, a cost of electricity (COE) of 64 €/MWh and a mitigation cost of 20 €/tonCO2 were obtained for 90% captured CO2 and 10% hydrogen recovery. An increase of the hydrogen recovery up to 20% determines a reduction of the COE and of the mitigation cost to 50 €/MWh and 5 €/tonCO2, respectively. A sensitivity analysis showed that even a 50% increase of cost of the membrane per unit surface could determine a COE increase of only about 10% and a maximum increase of the mitigation cost of further 5 €/tonCO2. 相似文献

Mediterranean basins are known for their susceptibility to water stress conditions resulting from a reduction in winter-season precipitation. This region is also prone to the effects of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), a large-scale climatic pattern associated with a displacement of air mass between the arctic and the subtropical Atlantic. Even though previous studies have demonstrated the impact of the NAO on winter climate conditions in Europe and Northern Africa, it is still unclear to what extent the NAO is related to hydroclimatic patterns in Mediterranean areas and whether it can explain its recent drought history. To this end, this study investigates the interdependence between the NAO and winter precipitation, river flow and temperature in two Mediterranean regions: Southern Italy and Nile Delta (Egypt). The capacity to maintain vigilance generally falls with time on task. However, it has been suggested that, for example, the effects of sleep loss need a rather long time on task to become evident. The present experiment examined when significant deterioration of performance occurred in a 34-min visual vigilance task (with 32 signals) given to twelve subjects every 3 h across 64 h without sleep. Results from the whole test, the first eight signals, and even the first signal varied significantly across the experiment and were significantly lower than baseline after 24 h awake. The rate of decline over time on task was similar across the experiment. Less than half the misses could be attributed to electrophysiologically defined sleepiness. It was concluded that there is no "safe" duration of a monotonous task if the situation is undemanding and boring, but that the effect may become immediately evident.
