Significant progress has been made in the past decade in plasma nitriding with a majority of the research work focusing on improving hardness and wear resistance of the nitrided surface through the reduction of nitriding temperature, pressure or time. Hard-solid lubricating coatings have also been extensively studied for lowering the wear rate and coefficient of friction of traditional hard coatings such as TiN by the combined effect of hardness and solid lubrication. In this study, the wear characteristics of low-temperature plasma-nitrided steel substrate performed using a Saddle-field fast atom beam source and TiN + MoS x hard-solid lubricant coating deposited by a closed-field magnetron-sputtering technique have been investigated. The thin hard layer in plasma-nitrided substrates exhibited much higher hardness and lower wear compared to the untreated substrate in pin-on-disc wear testing. In addition, the study of the wear track morphology of the nitrided samples evidenced significant reduction of deeper ploughing and plastic deformation due to higher hardness and load supporting of the nitrided layer. On the other hand, due to the incorporation of MoS2 in TiN coating, the wear resistance and coefficient of friction were greatly improved in TiN + MoS x coating compared to pure TiN coating. In contrast to TiN coating, a relatively smoother wear track with less abrasive wear also supported the beneficial effects of adding MoS2 in TiN coating.  相似文献

We present experimental results for the performance of selected voice codecs using Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP) with CCID4 congestion control over a satellite link. We evaluate the performance of both constant and variable data rate speech codecs for a number of simultaneous calls using the ITU E‐model. We analyse the sources of packet losses and additionally analyse the effect of jitter, which is one of the crucial parameters contributing to Voice over IP (VoIP) quality and has, to the best of our knowledge, not been considered previously in the published DCCP performance results. We propose modifications to the CCID4 algorithm and demonstrate how these improve the VoIP performance, without the need for additional link information other than what is already monitored by CCID4. We also demonstrate the fairness of the proposed modifications to other flows. Although the recently adopted changes to TCP‐Friendly Rate Control specification alleviate some of the performance issues for VoIP on satellite links, we argue that the characteristics of commercial satellite links necessitate consideration of further improvements. We identify the additional benefit of DCCP when used in VoIP admission control mechanisms and draw conclusions about the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed DCCP/CCID4 congestion control mechanism for use with VoIP applications. We report the growth of graded InGaN nanowires by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Wire composition is linearly graded from InN to GaN along the length of each wire. The large lattice mismatch between GaN and InN (11%) introduces tensile strain in the graded region, which results in cracking of the wires. Growing with reverse grading (i.e., GaN to InN) results in crack-free nanowires. The composition is measured by energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy of individual nanowires performed in a scanning transmission electron microscope, and strain is measured by high-resolution x-ray diffraction.  相似文献

This paper presents a low-power, biologically-inspired silicon neuron based implementation of a chaotic oscillator circuit. The silicon neuron structure is based on Hodgkin–Huxley neuron model. Subthreshold MOSFET and current reuse techniques have been utilized to achieve a low-power consumption of 180.30 nW for the room temperature (27 °C) and typical process corner. The chaotic behavior of the circuit is confirmed by calculating the largest Lyapunov exponent. A sensitivity analysis of the proposed chaotic oscillator shows that the circuit maintains the chaotic behavior for five different process corners within the temperature range of 0–60 °C.  相似文献

The application of titanium dioxide (TiO(2)) films as surgical implant coatings for antibiotic attachment depends crucially on their available surface area and thus their surface morphology and crystallinity. Here, we report our fabrication of high Wenzel ratio TiO(2) films targeted to increase the film surface area using the ion beam-assisted deposition (IBAD) technique at high-deposition temperatures (approximately 610 degrees C). The modulation of the films' surface morphology was accomplished by varying the chemical identity of the concurrent ion beams bombarded on the films during the e-beam evaporation process. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to investigate the surface morphology of the as-deposited films. X-ray diffractometry (XRD) revealed that these nanocrystalline films primarily consist of anatase phase TiO(2). Wenzel ratio, the ratio of the actual surface area to the projected area, of IBAD films prepared with argon, oxygen, and nitrogen ion beams was measured to be 1.52, 1.31 and 1.49, respectively. The effect of the differences in chemical reactivity and ion size of these three type ion beams are discussed to explain the present results.  相似文献

Arthroplasty outcome is influenced by the 'quality' of bone preparation for implant insertion. Surgeons face increasing choices of technique and instrumentation, yet clinical scoring methods assess the overall outcome and patient satisfaction but not the bone cuts directly. 'Quality management' of bone reshaping is needed to evaluate different bone cutting methods and computer assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS) systems. Analyses and experiments in this study were formulated for measurement and computation of four quantitative characteristics of bone preparation 'quality' and produced a highly condensed index for each. These represented (a) surface finish of cuts, (b) implant fit/looseness possible with the cut shape, (c) implant location/misalignment, and (d) accuracy of individual planar cuts. Assessment of synthetic bone cuts verified the robustness of the method for wide application in arthroplasty intraoperatively, in vitro and for comparing navigation systems.  相似文献

We report the implementation of an electrostatic Einzel lens (Boersch) phase plate in a prototype transmission electron microscope dedicated to aberration-corrected cryo-EM. The combination of phase plate, Cs corrector and Diffraction Magnification Unit (DMU) as a new electron-optical element ensures minimal information loss due to obstruction by the phase plate and enables in-focus phase contrast imaging of large macromolecular assemblies. As no defocussing is necessary and the spherical aberration is corrected, maximal, non-oscillating phase contrast transfer can be achieved up to the information limit of the instrument. A microchip produced by a scalable micro-fabrication process has 10 phase plates, which are positioned in a conjugate, magnified diffraction plane generated by the DMU. Phase plates remained fully functional for weeks or months. The large distance between phase plate and the cryo sample permits the use of an effective anti-contaminator, resulting in ice contamination rates of <0.6 nm/h at the specimen. Maximal in-focus phase contrast was obtained by applying voltages between 80 and 700 mV to the phase plate electrode. The phase plate allows for in-focus imaging of biological objects with a signal-to-noise of 5-10 at a resolution of 2-3 nm, as demonstrated for frozen-hydrated virus particles and purple membrane at liquid-nitrogen temperature.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of environmental damage (stripping) on the hot mix asphalt (HMA) creep behavior. To achieve this objective, 24 different HMA combinations using different mix parameters were evaluated for their resistance to static creep deformations. The mix parameters include: two types of asphalt cement, three types of aggregate gradation, and two types of antistripping additives (limestone dust and calcium stearate hydroxide). Marshall specimens were prepared at optimum asphalt contents and tested for static creep. Part of the prepared specimens were exposed to freezing–thawing conditioning according to AASHTO T283.  相似文献

Despite significant investment, childhood malnutrition continues to be a significant public health problem especially in least developed countries. The aim of this study was to find association between household biomass fuel (BMF) use and childhood malnutrition in Bangladesh using data from Demographic and Health Survey 2011. We included a total 6891 children under 5 years of age in the analysis. The prevalence of wasting, underweight, and stunting from BMF using household was 16.1% (n = 997; 95%CI, 15.1–17.3), 39.0% (n = 2399; 95%CI, 37.1–40.9), and 43.3% (n = 2620; 95%CI, 41.6–45.1), respectively. Underweight and stunting were significantly higher among children from households using BMF compared with the children from CF using households (underweight, biomass vs clean fuel: 39.0% vs. 23.5%, < 0.001; stunting, biomass vs clean fuel: 43.3 vs. 31.5%, < 0.001). The use of BMF in the household was significantly associated with underweight (OR = 1.38; 95%CI: 1.10–1.73) and stunting (OR = 1.58; 95%CI: 1.18–1.98) among children <5 years of age after adjusting possible confounders in mixed effect logistic regression analysis. This study found a significant association between chronic childhood malnutrition and household BMF use which is indicating possible alternative risk factor for malnutrition. Further prospective research is required to explore the mechanism of how BMF use results in chronic malnutrition.  相似文献

Safety assessment of oil and gas (O&G) pipelines is necessary to prevent unwanted events that may cause catastrophic accidents and heavy financial losses. This study develops a safety assessment model for O&G pipeline failure by incorporating fuzzy logic into Bayesian belief network. Proposed fuzzy Bayesian belief network (FBBN) model explicitly represents dependencies of events, updating probabilities and representation of uncertain knowledge (such as randomness, vagueness and ignorance). The study highlights the utility of FBBN in safety analysis of O&G pipeline because of its flexible structure, allowing it to fit a wide variety of accident scenarios. The sensitivity analysis of the proposed model indicates that construction defect, overload, mechanical damage, bad installation and quality of worker are the most significant causes for the O&G pipeline failures. The research results can help owners of transmission and distribution pipeline companies and professionals to prepare preventive safety measures and allocate proper resources.  相似文献
