The variation in the microhardness of tin-di-iodide (SnI2) and tin-tetra-iodide (SnI4) crystals has been determined using Vicker’s microhardness indentor. It is observed that the microhardness of the crystals depends on the applied load and is independent of the duration of loading. Vickers Hardness Numerals (vhn) for SnI2 is found to be greater than that of SnI4 crystals. Mayer’s equation and implications have been discussed.  相似文献

We report current-induced magnetization reversal in a ferromagnetic semiconductor-based magnetic tunnel junction (Ga,Mn)As/AlAs/(Ga,Mn)As prepared by molecular beam epitaxy on a p-GaAs(001) substrate. A change in magneto-resistance that is asymmetric with respect to the current direction is found with the excitation current of 106 A/cm2. Contributions of both unpolarized and spin-polarized components are examined, and we conclude that the partial magnetization reversal occurs in the (Ga,Mn)As layer having smaller magnetization with the spin-polarized tunneling current of 105 A/cm2.  相似文献

Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is one of the fastest growing fields in the area of neural networks and signal processing. Blind Source Separation (BSS) is one of the applications of ICA. In this paper, ICA has been used for separating unknown source signals. BSS is used to extract independent signal components from their observed linear mixtures at an array of sensors. Various statistical techniques based on information theoretic and algebraic approaches exist for performing ICA. In this paper, we have used an objective function based on independence criterion of the signals. Optimisation of this objective function yields a neural algorithm along with a non-linear function for signal separation. Performance of the algorithm for artificially generated signals as well as audio signals has been evaluated.  相似文献

White button mushrooms were washed, blanched and cut longitudinally into two halves. 100 g mushroom halves was placed into each retort pouch and 90 ml hot brine (2% salt, 0.1% citric acid) was added. Retort pouches (105 µm thick) had an outer polyester layer (12.5 µm), a middle aluminium layer (12.5 µm) and an inner cast polypropylene layer (80 µm); pouch size was 20 × 16 cm, seal size 10 mm and lip size 4 mm. Pouches were fixed with thermocouples for recording the core temperature of the mushroom pieces, using a data recorder and a computer. After sealing and over‐pressure retorting at F0 = 9.6, the pouches were stored at the ambient conditions. The heat penetration parameters were calculated. The heating curve obtained was logarithmic in nature. Sensory evaluation of mushroom curry prepared from the stored mushrooms showed that the product had high acceptability (7.9 on a scale of 10) which reduced very slightly (to 7.5) during storage for 12 months. No deformity, leakage or spoilage was noticed and the product remained sterile and acceptable even after 12 months of storage at the ambient conditions (20–30°C). Automobile users experiencing soft failures, often delay reporting of warranty claims till the coverage is about to expire. This results into a customer-rush near the warranty expiration limit leading to an occurrence of ‘spikes’ in warranty claims towards the end of warranty period and thereby introducing a bias into the dataset. At the same time, an occurrence of manufacturing/assembly defects in addition to the usage related failures, lead to ‘spikes’ in warranty claims near the beginning of the warranty period. When such data are used to capture the field failures for obtaining feedback on product quality/reliability, it may lead product or reliability engineers to potentially obtain a distorted picture of the reality. Although in reliability studies from automobile warranty data, several authors have addressed the well-recognized issues of incomplete and unclean nature of warranty data, the issue of ‘spikes’ has not received much attention. In this article, we address the issue of ‘spikes’ in the presence of the incomplete and unclean nature of warranty data and provide a methodology to arrive at component-level empirical hazard plots from such automobile warranty data.  相似文献

Genuine moral disagreement exists and is widespread. To understand such disagreement, we must examine the basic kinds of social relationships people construct across cultures and the distinct moral obligations and prohibitions these relationships entail. We extend relational models theory (Fiske, 1991) to identify 4 fundamental and distinct moral motives. Unity is the motive to care for and support the integrity of in-groups by avoiding or eliminating threats of contamination and providing aid and protection based on need or empathic compassion. Hierarchy is the motive to respect rank in social groups where superiors are entitled to deference and respect but must also lead, guide, direct, and protect subordinates. Equality is the motive for balanced, in-kind reciprocity, equal treatment, equal say, and equal opportunity. Proportionality is the motive for rewards and punishments to be proportionate to merit, benefits to be calibrated to contributions, and judgments to be based on a utilitarian calculus of costs and benefits. The 4 moral motives are universal, but cultures, ideologies, and individuals differ in where they activate these motives and how they implement them. Unlike existing theories (Haidt, 2007; Hauser, 2006; Turiel, 1983), relationship regulation theory predicts that any action, including violence, unequal treatment, and “impure” acts, may be perceived as morally correct depending on the moral motive employed and how the relevant social relationship is construed. This approach facilitates clearer understanding of moral perspectives we disagree with and provides a template for how to influence moral motives and practices in the world. Abstract: Food spoilage and biofilm formation by food‐related bacteria are significant problems in the food industry. Even with the application of modern‐day food preservative techniques, excessive amounts of food are lost due to microbial spoilage. A number of studies have indicated that quorum sensing plays a major role in food spoilage, biofilm formation, and food‐related pathogenesis. Understanding bacterial quorum‐sensing signaling systems can help in controlling the growth of undesirable food‐related bacteria. This review focusses on the various signaling molecules produced by Gram‐negative and Gram‐positive bacteria and the mechanism of their quorum‐sensing systems, types of signaling molecules that have been detected in different food systems using biosensors, the role of signaling molecules in biofilm formation, and significance of biofilms in the food industry. As quorum‐sensing signaling molecules are implicated in food spoilage, based on these molecules potential, quorum‐sensing inhibitors/antagonists can be developed to be used as novel food preservatives for maintaining food integrity and enhancing food safety. Practical Application: Bacteria use signaling molecules for inter‐ and intracellular communication. This phenomenon of bacterial cell‐to‐cell communication is known as quorum sensing. Quorum‐sensing signals are implicated in bacterial pathogenicity and food spoilage. Therefore, blocking the quorum‐sensing signaling molecules in food‐related bacteria may possibly prevent quorum‐sensing‐regulated phenotypes responsible for food spoilage. Quorum‐sensing inhibitors/antagonists could be used as food preservatives to enhance the shelf life and also increase food safety.  相似文献

A systematic study was conducted using reversed‐phase thin‐layer chromatography wherein unsaponifiable matter of samples namely, pure cow and buffalo milk fats, vegetable oils (groundnut oil, soya bean oil and sunflower oil) and milk fats adulterated with vegetable oils (≥1%) were run along with the reference standards using two new solvent systems to detect adulteration in milk fat. The results of the study revealed that adulteration at even a 1% level could easily be detected using this rapid, reliable and reproducible method based on the presence of β‐sitosterol as a marker and some additional spots ascribable to their occurrence in vegetable oils only.  相似文献

The antimicrobial susceptibilities and presence of plasmids in four new probiotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains, Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 (DR20) HN067, Lactobacillus acidophilus HN017 and Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 (DR10), were determined. Resistance to 18 commonly used antibiotics was assessed by disk diffusion. The three Lactobacillus strains had similar antibiotic susceptibility profiles to those of Lactobacillus plantarum strain HN045 and two commercial probiotic Lactobacillus strains, GG and LA-1. The B. lactis strain HN019 had a similar profile to three commercial probiotic B. lactis strains (Bb12, HN049 and HN098). All 10 strains were sensitive to the Gram-positive spectrum antibiotics erythromycin and novobiocin, the broad-spectrum antibiotics rifampicin, spectinomycin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol and the beta-lactam antibiotics penicillin, ampicillin and cephalothin. By contrast, most strains were resistant to the Gram-negative spectrum antibiotics fusidic acid, nalidixic acid and polymyxin B and the aminoglycosides neomycin, gentamicin, kanamycin and streptomycin. All three L. rhamnosus strains (HN001, HN067 and GG) were resistant to vancomycin and several strains were also resistant to cloxacillin. Of the four new probiotic strains, only L. rhamnosus HN001 contained plasmids; however, a plasmid-free derivative of HN001 had the same antibiotic susceptibility profile as the parent strain.  相似文献
