The synthesis of ultrathin rhenium disulfide(ReS2)nanoribbons within single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs)has been established.Dirhenium decacarbonyl complex is encapsulated into the SWNTs to provide a source of confined rhenium atoms,which readily react with iodine to form discrete nm-sized clusters of rhenium iodide[Re6l14]2- embedded in the nanotubes.The final step of the synthesis is accomplished by admitting hydrogen sulfide gas into nano test tubes,yielding twisted nanoribbons of rhenium disulfide encapsulated in carbon nanotubes,ReS2@SWNTs.The width,structure,and composition of rhenium disulfide nanoribbons are strictly controlled by the extreme confinement of the host-SWNT.A holistic analytical approach combining complementary imaging and analysis methods is used at each synthetic step to elucidate the structure and composition of the guest material and reveal the role of the SWNT contributing towards the electronic interactions with encapsulated inorganic structures.As ReS2 nanoribbons are expected to retain the electronic properties of the bulk material,such as direct bandgap,the low dimensional form of this material can be of interest for use in nanoscale electronic devices.  相似文献

Reflective systems allow their own structures to be altered from within. Here we are concerned with a style of reflection, called linguistic reflection, which is the ability of a running program to generate new program fragments and to integrate these into its own execution. In particular, we describe how this kind of reflection may be provided in the compiler-based, strongly typed object-oriented programming language Java. The advantages of the programming technique include attaining high levels of genericity and accommodating system evolution. These advantages are illustrated by an example taken from persistent programming, which shows how linguistic reflection allows functionality (program code) to be generated on demand (Just-In-Time) from a generic specification and integrated into the evolving running program. The technique is evaluated against alternative implementation approaches with respect to efficiency, safety and ease of use. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Yeast suspensions were analysed by flow cytometry after dye staining for determination of total and viable cell densities. Results were comparable to traditional colony counting and, in addition, provided further information on the percentage of total cells that were viable. The flow cytometric methods provided results within 20 min whereas colony counts were not available until 36 h. We evaluated a number of fluorescent dyes: ChemChrome Y (CY), oxonol (Ox), propidium iodide (PI), Fungolight and rhodamine 123, for accurate determination of viability of industrial yeast cultures and freshly re-hydrated high activity dried yeast (HADY). PI, Ox and CY gave the most conclusive live/dead discrimination and were the simplest to use. Culturing after dye staining and cell sorting demonstrated that the yeast remained viable after cell sorting and incubation with PI, CY or Ox. The methods, therefore, permit physical selection of individual yeast cells from populations of mixed viability. Sorting demonstrated that PI stained non-culturable cells whilst CY stained culturable cells. Analysis of yeast stained simultaneously with CY and PI or with Ox and PI demonstrated that PI and CY assays were in mutual agreement with respect to viability assessments. The Ox assay was in agreement with CY and PI for live/heat-killed mixtures. However, for re-hydrated HADY, Ox stained a significantly (P⩽0·05) higher proportion of cells than did PI. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The fate and effects of fluoroquinolone antibacterials (FQ) in the environment is of significance because of apparent increased FQ resistance in environmental and clinical organisms. Here we simultaneously assessed the fate and effects of enrofloxacin (enro), an FQ often used in agriculture, on the chemistry and in situ microbial communities in receiving waters. We added enro to 25 microg/L in nine outdoor mesocosms maintained under three light conditions (in triplicate): full sunlight typical of the upper epilimnion (100% full-light exposure, FLE), partial shading typical of the lower epilimnion (28% FLE), and near-complete shading typical of the hypolimnion (0.5% FLE). Enro disappearance and ciprofloxacin (cipro) formation were monitored over time using LC/MS, and water chemistry and ambient microbial communities (using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis; DGGE) were characterized. Enro half-lives were 0.8, 3.7, and 72 days for the 100%, 28%, and 0.5% FLE treatments, respectively, creating three distinct FQ exposure scenarios. Although FQ exposures ranged from approximately 6 microg/L for 24 h to approximately 21 microg/L for 30 days, no statistically significant exposure effects were noted in water quality or microbial communities (as indicated by whole-community 16S rDNA DGGE analysis and specific amplification of the QRDR region of gyrase A). Small changes in water chemistry were noted over time; however, changes could not be specifically attributed to FQs. In general, enro addition had minimal effect on water column conditions at the levels and durations used here; however, further investigation is needed to assess effects in aquatic sediments.  相似文献

Listeria monocytogenes is an important foodborne pathogen with high mortality. L. monocytogenes and five other Listeria species can frequently be found in the same sample. To identify Listeria isolates found in foods to the species level, two multiplex PCRs were designed. The PCR and conventional biochemical methods were compared for the identification of 456 Listeria isolates collected from routine food quality monitoring schemes between June 2004 and February 2006 and for 62 L. monocytogenes isolates from patients between 1999 and 2005. The results showed that the PCR and biochemical methods had 100% agreement in Listeria identification. The distribution of Listeria species from foods was as follows: L. monocytogenes, 50.4%; L. innocua, 33.8%; L. welshimeri, 14.9%; L. seeligeri, 0.7%; L. grayi, 0.2%; and L. ivanovii, 0.0%. Additional analyses were performed to identify the major serotypes (1/2a, 1/2b, 1/2c, and 4b) and the three lineages of L. monocytogenes isolates from foods and patients, with 1/2a (69.6%) and 1/2b (21.7%) dominating the food isolates and 1/2b (54.8%) and 4b (30.7%) dominating the patient isolates. The lineage results showed that isolates of 1/2a and 1/2c belonged to lineage II and that isolates of 1/2b and 4b belonged to lineage I. The multiplex PCRs for Listeria identification that have been established provide an accurate and rapid method for food quality control. This study has provided the basic knowledge of distribution of Listeria species and L. monocytogenes serotypes in Queensland, Australia, which is useful for epidemiological investigations of listeriosis.  相似文献

Changes in the physical and chemical properties of chickpeas gamma irradiated with 60Co at doses of 0–50 kGy were investigated. Irradiation between 0 and 20 kGy had no significant effect on the hydration capacity of the chickpeas; however, increasing the dose from 20 to 50 kGy significantly decreased the hydration capacity owing to leaching of soluble compounds from the cotyledon to the water. There was an improvement in cooking quality (defined as degree of softness) with increased irradiation. Gelatinisation properties of the starch (measured with a Rapid Visco‐Analyser) exhibited a deterioration with increasing irradiation dose, while reversed phase HPLC identified a sequential decrease in low‐molecular‐weight protein composition with increasing irradiation dose. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Five porcine genetic lines which represent a high proportion of European pig production were fully characterized for meat quality parameters and muscle biochemical characteristics (Longissimus thoracis, LT, and Semimembranosus, SM). The line characterisation was based on 100 animals each representing Large White, Landrace, Duroc, Piétrain (Halothane negative) and Meishan (a Meishan/Large White crossbred line) prevalent genetic backgrounds. Different meat quality parameters (pH 45min, pH ultimate, electrical conductivity, and colour measurements), as well as muscle water holding capacity, muscle metabolic and contractile traits, fibre type, size and frequencies were measured and their relationships studied. The main differences in the LT were found between the Meishan and Piétrain genetic lines, in relation to the muscle fibre size (larger in Piétrain). The Duroc line was characterized by the muscle oxidative traits and the Landrace by the high percentage of fast glycolytic fibres. In SM, Duroc and Piétrain were distinguished from Landrace and Meishan according to the metabolic and contractile characteristics of this muscle. Large White tended to lie between the other breeds for many of the traits. The measured muscle characteristics were related to differences in drip loss and marbling values and could thereby influence the eating quality of pork. Overall the results show differences between the genetic lines for a number of muscle traits which could have impact on consumer appeal and eating quality. The present findings should serve to emphasise the importance of including eating quality as a trait in breed selection.  相似文献

Adequate accumulation of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids, in particular docosahexaenoic acid (22∶6n−3), into membrane phospholipids is critical for optimal fetal brain development. This process is maximal during the period of rapid neurite outgrowth, neuritogenesis, which precedes the major growth phase, myelination. There is no information about differential changes during gestation to individual brain phospholipid molecular species which contain 22∶6n−3. Such details of brain development would be concealed by total fatty acid analysis of isolated phospholipid classes. We have detailed phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) molecular species compositions in developing fetal guinea pig brain. Total brain PC concentration increased substantially between 40 and 68 (term) d of gestation, corresponding to myelination, while PE increased in a biphasic manner between 25–35 d, which was coincident with onset of neuritogenesis, and 40–68 d. Fetal brain development was accompanied by complex changes in the concentration of individual phospholipid molecular species. During early gestation (25–40 d) 22∶6n−3 was enriched in both PC and PEsn−1 16∶0 molecular species. However, between 40 d and term there was no further increase in brain PC 22∶6n−3 content, while brain PE was significantly enriched in both PE 18∶1/22∶6 and PE18∶0/22∶6. We hypothesize that accumulation of 22∶6n−3 intosn−1 18∶1 and 18∶0 species represents establishment of a 22∶6n−3-containing membrane PE pool which may be turned over more slowly thansn−1 16∶0 species. Identification of specific changes in membrane phospholipids which are associated with defined events in brain development may provide a basis for assigning functional roles to individual molecular species.  相似文献

Cocoa beans are the principal raw material of chocolate manufacture. The beans are subject to a microbial fermentation as the first stage in chocolate production. The microbial ecology of bean fermentation (Forastero and Trinitario cultivars) was investigated at three commercial fermentaries in East Java, Indonesia by determining the populations of individual species at 12-h intervals throughout the process. The first 2-3 days of fermentation were characterised by the successional growth of various species of filamentous fungi, yeasts, lactic acid bacteria and acetic acid bacteria. The principal species found were Penicillium citrinum, an unidentified basidiomycete, Kloeckera apis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida tropicalis, Lactobacillus cellobiosus, Lactobacillus plantarum and Acetobacter pasteurianus. The later stages of fermentation were dominated by the presence of Bacillus species, mostly, Bacillus pumilus and Bacillus licheniformis. Glucose, fructose, sucrose and citric acid of the bean pulp were utilised during fermentation, with the production of ethanol, acetic acid and lactic acid that diffused into the beans. The filamentous fungi were notable for their production of polygalacturonase activity and probably contributed to the degradation of bean pulp.  相似文献

Using residual gas analysis, with scraping of oxide films, it is demonstrated that oxygen gas can be generated within anodic films on Al-Cu alloys and InP. The oxygen is produced by oxidation of O2− ions of the film material, and is present in numerous bubbles in the bulk film. The generation of oxygen is suggested to be related to the electron energy levels of the film material, which in the case of alumina films are modified by the incorporation of copper species and, from previous work, other non-valve, transition metal species. Oxygen is also present in low amounts in alumina films nominally free of the latter species; the oxygen may be located either in the bulk oxide or at flaws.  相似文献
