The objective of this study is to understand the role of residual stress in piezoelectric layers in order to predict the performance of integrated structures. This is of particular importance in thick or thin film technology. Considering a bulk piezoelectric material, the Christoffel equation for a piezoelectric material is modified to take into account a uniform residual stress on a given cross section. A numerical study of its influence is carried out on the slowness curves and coupling coefficients of a lithium niobate material. In a second part, modified Christoffel tensor is used to calculate the dispersion curves of Lamb waves in a piezoelectric plate. The Lamb modes are found to be sensitive to the residual stress. In particular, it is shown how the behavior of the first Lamb modes is modified with residual stress. In a third part, these results are extended to a piezoelectric film laid down on a substrate in order to model the importance of these phenomena on the behavior of an integrated structure. The numerical study of guided waves in a lithium niobate plate is performed first, then the case of a lithium niobate film laid down on a silicon substrate is considered.  相似文献

Level crossings are amongst the most complex of road safety issues, due to the addition of rail infrastructure, trains and train operations. The differences in the operational characteristics of different warning devices together with varying crossing, traffic or/and train characteristics, cause different driver behaviour at crossings. This paper compares driver behaviour towards two novel warning devices (rumble strips and in-vehicle audio warning) with two conventional warning devices (flashing light and stop sign) at railway level crossings using microsimulation modelling. Two safety performance indicators directly related to collision risks, violation and time-to-collision, were adopted. Results indicated the active systems were more effective at reducing likely collisions compared to passive devices. With the combined application of driving simulation and traffic microsimulation modelling, traffic safety performance indicators for a level crossing can be estimated. From these, relative safety comparisons for the different traffic devices are derived, or even for absolute safety evaluation with proper calibration from field investigations.  相似文献

2D nanomaterials, particularly graphene, offer many fascinating physicochemical properties that have generated exciting visions of future biological applications. In order to capitalize on the potential of 2D nanomaterials in this field, a full understanding of their interactions with biointerfaces is crucial. The uptake pathways, toxicity, long‐term fate of 2D nanomaterials in biological systems, and their interactions with the living systems are fundamental questions that must be understood. Here, the latest progress is summarized, with a focus on pathogen, mammalian cell, and tissue interactions. The cellular uptake pathways of graphene derivatives will be discussed, along with health risks, and interactions with membranes—including bacteria and viruses—and the role of chemical structure and modifications. Other novel 2D nanomaterials with potential biomedical applications, such as transition‐metal dichalcogenides, transition‐metal oxide, and black phosphorus will be discussed at the end of this review.  相似文献

We report on the development and performance of a gas sensor based on a distributed feedback quantum cascade laser operating in continuous wave at room temperature for simultaneous measurement of nitrous oxide (N(2)O) and methane (CH(4)) concentrations at ground level. The concentrations of the gases are determined by a long path infrared diode laser absorption spectroscopy. The long-term stability of the instrument is evaluated using the Allan variance technique. A preliminary evaluation of the instrument performance is realized by in situ measurements of N(2)O and CH(4) concentrations at ground level during 1 day. The sensor has also been applied to study the time response of N(2)O concentrations to a fertilizer addition in a soil sample and for the comparison between various types of soils.  相似文献

A method for the remote detection and identification of liquid chemicals at ranges of tens of meters is presented. The technique uses pulsed indirect photoacoustic spectroscopy in the 10-microm wavelength region. Enhanced sensitivity is brought about by three main system developments: (1) increased laser-pulse energy (150 microJ/pulse), leading to increased strength of the generated photoacoustic signal; (2) increased microphone sensitivity and improved directionality by the use of a 60-cm-diameter parabolic dish; and (3) signal processing that allows improved discrimination of the signal from noise levels through prior knowledge of the pulse shape and pulse-repetition frequency. The practical aspects of applying the technique in a field environment are briefly examined, and possible applications of this technique are discussed.  相似文献

We present a new 3D adaptive filtering approach capable of detecting and removing impulsive noise in image/video sequences. The proposed method takes advantage of switching median schemes and robust lower‐upper‐middle (LUM) smoothing characteristics. Simulation studies reported in this article indicate that the proposed filtering scheme achieves an excellent trade‐off between noise attenuation and detail preserving characteristics, and clearly outperforms previously introduced approaches in terms of subjective and objective image quality measures. Besides the filter analysis and the testing of its performance, an important part of this article discusses the filter implementation in Altera field programmable logic devices (FPLD). Simulation studies indicate that the proposed method can be efficiently implemented in hardware and is suitable for real‐time image/video processing applications. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Intramolecular cross-linking coupled with mass spectrometric identification of cross-linked amino acids is a rapid method for elucidating low-resolution protein tertiary structures or fold families. However, previous cross-linking studies on model proteins, such as cytochrome c and ribonuclease A, identified a limited number of peptide cross-links that are biased toward only a few of the potentially reactive lysine residues. Here, we report an approach to improve the diversity of intramolecular protein cross-linking starting with a systematic quantitation of the reactivity of lysine residues of a model protein, bovine cytochrome c. Relative lysine reactivities among the 18 lysine residues of cytochrome c were determined by the ratio of d0 and acetyl-d3 groups at each lysine after partial acetylation with sulfosuccinimidyl acetate followed by denaturation and quantitative acetylation of remaining unmodified lysines with acetic-d6 anhydride. These lysine reactivities were then compared with theoretically derived pKa and relative solvent accessibility surface values. To ascertain if partial N-acetylation of the most reactive lysine residues prior to cross-linking can redirect and increase the observable Lys-Lys cross-links, partially acetylated bovine cytochrome c was cross-linked with the amine-specific, bis-functional reagent, bis(sulfosuccinimidyl)suberate. After proteolysis and mass spectrometry analysis, partial acetylation was shown to significantly increase the number of observable peptides containing Lys-Lys cross-links, shifting the pattern from the most reactive lysine residues to less reactive ones. More importantly, these additional cross-linked peptides contained novel Lys-Lys cross-link information not seen in the non-acetylated protein and provided additional distance constraints that were consistent with the crystal structure and facilitated the identification of the proper protein fold.  相似文献

Previous research suggests that compared to mobile phone use, eating and drinking while driving is more common and is seen as lower risk by drivers. Nevertheless, snacking at the wheel can affect vehicle control to a similar extent as using a hands-free phone, and is actually a causal factor in more crashes. So far, though, there has not been a controlled empirical study of this problem. In an effort to fill this gap in the literature, we used the Brunel University Driving Simulator to test participants on a typical urban scenario. At designated points on the drive, which coincided with instructions to eat or drink, a critical incident was simulated by programming a pedestrian to walk in front of the car. Whilst the driving performance variables measured were relatively unaffected by eating and drinking, perceived driver workload was significantly higher and there were more crashes in the critical incident when compared to driving normally. Despite some methodological limitations of the study, when taken together with previous research, the evidence suggests that the physical demands of eating and drinking while driving can increase the risk of a crash.  相似文献

The present work first provides an experimental technique to study self-heating of bulk acoustic wave (BAW) resonators under high RF power in the gigahertz range. This study is specially focused on film bulk acoustic wave resonators and solidly mounted resonators processed onto silicon wafers and designed for wireless systems. Precisely, the reflection coefficient of a one-port device is measured while up to several watts are applied and power leads to electrical drifts of impedances. In the following, we describe how absorbed power can be determined from the incident one in real time. Therefore, an infrared camera held over the radio frequency micro electromechanical system (RF-MEMS) surface with an exceptional spatial resolution reaching up to 2 microm/pixels gives accurate temperature mapping of resonators after emissivity correction. From theoretical point of view, accurate three-dimensional (3-D) structures for finite-element modeling analyses are carried out to know the best materials and architectures to use for enhancing power handling. In both experimental and theoretical investigations, comparison is made between film bulk acoustic wave resonators and solidly mounted resonators. Thus, the trend in term of material, architecture, and size of device for power application such as in transmission path of a transceiver is clearly identified.  相似文献

The Dynamic Chemical Plating (DCP) technique allows production of 2-μm copper films containing particles of graphite or PTFE in 18 and 15 min, respectively, at ambient temperature. DCP yields composites with particle-incorporation fractions of 12% for graphite micro-particles and 22% for PTFE nano-particles. The composite films show excellent tribological properties, acting as self-lubricating coatings with friction coefficients as low as 0.18.  相似文献
