Selection of parameters in machining process significantly affects quality, productivity, and cost of a component. This paper presents an optimization procedure to determine the optimal values of wheel speed, workpiece speed, and depth of cut in a grinding process considering certain grinding conditions. Experimental studies have been carried out to obtain optimum conditions. Mathematical models have also been developed for estimating the surface roughness based on experimental investigations. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA II) is then used to solve this multi-objective optimization problem. The objectives under investigation in this study are surface finish, total grinding time, and production cost subjected to the constraints of production rate and wheel wear parameters. The Pareto-optimal fronts provide a wide range of trade-off operating conditions which an appropriate operating point can be selected by a decision maker. The results show the proposed algorithm demonstrates applicability of machining optimization considering conflicting objectives.

In this study, the Taguchi design method was employed to determine the optimum experimental parameters in extraction of vanadium by NaOH leaching of oil-fired fly. Prior to designed experiments, the raw precipitates were mechanicallly milled using a high-energy planetary ball mill. Experimental parameters were investigated as follows: mechanical milling (MM) times (2 and 5?hours), NaOH (1 and 2 molar concentration) as reaction solution (RS), powder to solution (P/S) ratios (100/400 and 100/600?mg/mL), temperature (T) of reaction system (303 K and 333?K [30?°C and 60?°C]), stirring times (ST) of reaction media (4 and 12?hours), stirring speed (SS) being adjusted to 400 and 600?rpm, and rinsing times (RT) of remained filtrates (1 and 3?hours). Statistical analysis of signal-to-noise ratio followed by analysis of variance was performed in order to estimate the optimum levels and their relative contributions. Data analysis is carried out using L8 orthogonal array consisting of seven parameters each with two levels. The optimum conditions were MM1 (3?hours), RS2 (2 molar NaOH), P/S2 (100/600?mg/mL), T2 (333?K [60?°C]), ST2 (12?hours), SS1 (400?rpm), and RT1 (1?hour). Finally, from environmental and economical points of view, the process is faster and better organized by employing this analytical design method.

The problem of this paper is the high contact stress at the point of contact between the cam and the follower.A pear cam and roller follower mechanism were studied and analyzed for different position of the follower and different contact compression load. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of contact compression load on the contact stress distribution of the cam profile at the point of contact.Four different positions of the follower with the cam was considered(0°,90°,180°,and 270°).The theory of circular plate was applied to derive the analytic solution of the contact stress. The numerical simulation had been done using ANSYS Ver.19.2 package to determine the contact stress, while SolidWorks software was used to investigate follower displacement, velocity, and acceleration.Four distinct values of the compression contact load, such as 3.121 N,6.242 N,9.364 N,and 12.485 N,were used in the numerical simulation. In the experiment setup,a photo-elastic technique was carried out in the field of polarized light to exhibit the stress distribution on the cam specimen. The annealed PSM-4 backalate material was used in the experiment setup. The experimental value of contact stress was checked and verified analytically and numerically at the point of contact. The innovation in this paper the use of spring-damper system which reduce the value of contact stress at the point of contact. The contact stress was maximum 2.136 MPa when the follower located at 270° with the cam, while the contact stress was minimum 1.802 MPa when the follower located at 180°at compression load 12.485 N.

Motion estimation is one of the critical parts in video compression standards with a high computational load. Many motion estimation algorithms have been developed to reduce the number of search points compared to a full-search algorithm without losing the quality considerably. Most of them use fixed search patterns in their first step which may suffer from trapping into local minima or searching unnecessary blocks due to inappropriate size and type of search patterns. In this paper, a new dynamic search pattern using motion vectors of spatial and temporal neighboring blocks is proposed. The motion vectors of neighboring blocks are prioritized, in order to efficiently use of halfway stop technique. The simulation results indicate that proposed algorithm is very close to the full-search algorithm in quality, compared to other rivals. Moreover, the average number of searches is often less than other algorithms.

Provisioning buffer management mechanism is especially crucial in resource-constrained delay tolerant networks (DTNs) as maximum data delivery ratio with minimum overhead is expected in highly congested environments. However, most DTN protocols do not consider resource limitations (e.g., buffer, bandwidth) and hence, results in performance degradation. To strangle and mitigate the impact of frequent buffer overflows, this paper presents an adaptive and efficient buffer management scheme called size-aware drop (SAD) that strives to improve buffer utilization and avoid unnecessary message drops. To improve data delivery ratio, SAD exactly determines the requirement based on differential of newly arrived message(s) and available space. To vacate inevitable space from a congested buffer, SAD strives to avoid redundant message drops and deliberate to pick and discard most appropriate message(s) to minimize overhead. The performance of SAD is validated through extensive simulations in realistic environments (i.e., resource-constrained and congested) with different mobility models (i.e., Random Waypoint and disaster). Simulation results demonstrate the performance supremacy of SAD in terms of delivery probability and overhead ratio besides other metrics when compared to contemporary schemes based on Epidemic (DOA and DLA) and PRoPHET (SHLI and MOFO).

The crosstalk and coupling of the external fields on orthogonal microstrip transmission lines in different layers have significant effects on signal quality in MMIC and PCBs. In this paper the crosstalk is analyzed in detail using both full-wave and quasi-static methods. The used full wave method is mixed potential integral equation method of moment (MPIEMoM). Because of the weak coupling between lines, the effect of the incident plane-wave is studied by applying transmission line theory in a scattered voltage formulation uses quasi-TEM propagation model for each interconnection and the exact distribution of the incident electric field within the layers. Afterward, by using the predetermined lumped circuit model of the cross-region, the effect of coupling between two lines is calculated and then applied to terminal voltages in 1–20 GHz frequency range which results in the final terminal voltages.

Size effect and fracture energy studies using compact compression specimens
The size effect has been investigated and fracture energy, GF, determined for a range of different strength concretes. The test specimen geometry used in the study was a compact compression prism. Five sizes of geometrically similar specimens with increasing square cross-sectional area (length=depth) and constant thickness (100 mm) were used in the experimental work; the length/depth dimensions of the test specimens were 100, 150, 200, 300, and 400 mm, giving an overall size range ratio of 1:4. The grades of concrete used in this study were C50, C70, C80, C90, and the maximum coarse aggregate (crushed limestone) size was 10 mm. A strong size effect was observed in the results and it is concluded that the test geometry is good for size effect studies in concrete. Furthermore, it was observed that with increasing strength the size effect becomes more pronounced as the brittleness is increased.
