The kinetics of the reaction of acetic acid and acetylene over zinc acetate-activated carbon catalyst was investigated over a wide range of process variables in a pilot reactor. Although various catalytic reaction mechanisms were postulated, the rate of reaction was most satisfactorily correlated by a mechanism of surface reaction between charged adsorbed acetic acid and acetylene, which assumes that the rate controlling step was the irreversible charged adsorption of acetylene and acetic acid.  相似文献

In this work, we establish a complete mathematical framework for algorithm-based fault-tolerant computing for data vectors defined over a ring of integers. The ring of integers consists of integers {0,1,…,M−1} and all the arithmetic operations are performed modulo the integerM, which is assumed to be composite. The importance of the work lies in the suitability of modulo arithmetic in certain computational environments. Lack of an underlying Galois field,GF(q), presents a unique challenge to this framework. We develop the theory and algorithms for single as well as multiple fault correction and detection. We also analyze the parallel and serial nature of the encoder and decoder configurations. Certain known but rather old results in the theory of numbers dealing with linear congruences and matrix algebra are also described and extended further using mathematical terminology that modern-day researchers are expected to be familiar with.  相似文献

Pb0.4Bi1.8Sr2Ca2.2Cu3Ox (Bi-2223) precursor powder was prepared by a solid-state reaction of carbonates and oxides of lead, bismuth, strontium, calcium, and copper, and the powder was then used to fabricate silver-clad tapes by the powder-in-tube technique. Transport critical current density (Jc) values>4×104 A/cm2 at 77K and 2×105 A/cm2 at 4.2 and 27K have been achieved in short tape samples. Long lengths of tape were tested by winding them into pancake coils. Recently, we fabricated a test magnet by stacking ten pancake coils, each containing three 16m lengths of rolled tape, and tested it at 4.2, 27 and 77K. A maximum generated field of 2.6 T was measured in zero applied field at 4.2K and the test magnet generated significant self-field in background fields up to 20 T. The results are discussed in this paper.  相似文献

The broadband integrated services digital networks (B-ISDN) based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology can support a wide range of applications such as voice, video, still images, and data. Compression techniques increase the effective bandwidth utilization, but the bursty and asynchronous nature of the traffic can still lead to congestion in the network, and degradation of image quality and quality of service (QOS). Some of the features to provide better coding schemes for ATM networks are layered coding, resynchronization, buffering, interleaved schemes, constrained bit rate due to buffers, encapsulation with the RTP or AAL1 for clock recovery, lapped transforms, motion compensation, and optimal bit allocation for coders based on wavelet transforms. We review various techniques forimage and video coding such as transforms, motion compensation, vector quantization, and subband coding. We outline the impact of the cell loss ratio (CLR), delay and cell delay variation (CDV) on video coding: blocking effects, loss of frame synchronization, motion vectors, and vector quantization codewords. The open problems include tuning coding parameters to the available QOS provided by the network.  相似文献

The distribution of the lifetime (MTTF) of any consecutive k -within-m-out-of-n:F system, with independent exponentially distributed component lifetimes, is shown to be a convex combination of the distributions (MTTFs) of several convolutions of independent random variables, where each convolution represents a distinct path in the evolution of the system's history, and where in each convolution all but the last random variable is exponential. The last random variable in each convolution is either a zero lifetime or the lifetime of several disjoint consecutive ki within mi-out-of-n:F systems in series with each ki<k, each mi<m, and each ni<n. This enables the calculations to proceed recursively. Calculations are facilitated by the symmetric nature of the convex combination  相似文献

In this paper, experimental results involving the effect of stress and temperature on creep behaviour of induction pressure welded (IPW) 2·25Cr-1Mo steel are presented. Creep rupture tests were conducted at 550–700°C in steps of 50°C over a stress range of 112·5–180 MPa. Above 650°C failure of the specimen was enhanced due to the microstructural instability. Failure in the specimens occurred invariably in the heat affected zones (HAZ), and the fracture surfaces indicated ductile failure.  相似文献

The estimation of the Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) and the variance of the angular spread, using an array of sensors in the case of a Ricean channel is considered, using the Maximum-Likelihood, Least-Squares and Weighted Least Squares criteria. The Cramér-Rao bound is also obtained for the problem of interest. Simplification of the cost functions to reduce the dimension of the problem has been carried out and the performance of the methods has been studied based on numerical experiments. The state of the art in scheduling “point-to-point” trains in a railway network utilizes the principles of centralized decision-making. The major difficulty of this approach is that the execution time and the memory requirements increase nonlinearly as the system grows in size. The present paper introduces a new approach, “DARYN”, wherein the overall decision process is analyzed and distributed onto every natural entity of the system. In DARYN, the decision process for every train is executed by an on-board processor that negotiates, dynamically and progressively, for temporary ownership of the tracks with the respective station controlling the tracks, through explicit processor to processor communication primitives. This processor then computes its own route utilizing the results of its negotiation, its knowledge of the track layout of the entire system, and its evaluation of the cost function. Every station's decision process is also executed by a dedicated processor that, in addition, maintains absolute control over a given set of tracks and participates in the negotiation with the trains. Presently, DARYN utilizes a simple cost function. However, if one chooses to increase the complexity of the cost function, DARYN's advantage over the traditional approach increases due to its enormous available computational power. Given that the current microprocessors such as MC68030, MC88000, Intel 486, and Intel 860 are powerful yet relatively inexpensive, a network of concurrently executing processors may offer superior price-performance quotient over a single high performance computer  相似文献

We report the results of the first phase of a study designed to quantify the relationship between eddy current coil construction and the performance of these coils used in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) inspections. The ferrite core coils wound for this study are small but typical of the sizes commonly used in commercially manufactured eddy current probes. Coil diameters range from 1 mm to 7 mm with lengths from 0.5 mm to 4 mm. Seven parameters were studied and included ferrite diameter, ferrite permeability, coil aspect ratio, number of turns, distance of the windings from the inspection end of the ferrite, wire gauge, and length of the ferrite beyond the end of the windings. Additionally, the coil set was designed to provide some indication of the repeatability of identical constructions, what we have called winding inhomogeneity. The coils were incorporated into surface probes for scanning defects in flat plate specimens. The measure of sensitivity was the change of probe impedance (Z) as the probe was scanned from an unflawed area to the flawed area of the test specimen. Measurements were also made of the component of Z perpendicular to the liftoff vector.The data reported here were produced from a set of 27 probes scanned over a single defect. The defect was an electrical-discharge-machined (EDM) notch in a 19 mm thick 7075-T6 aluminum alloy specimen. The part-circular EDM notch was 9 mm long and 3 mm deep and 0.1 mm wide.Analysis of the data shows that the number of turns, the winding distance, the coil aspect ratio, and the backside ferrite length all affect the coil sensitivity. Winding inhomogeneity is significant for coils having many winding layers and can be considerably larger than the contribution made by variations in some of the construction factors. Wire gauge, ferrite diameter, and permeability showed no significant effects on our measure of sensitivity in this study.  相似文献
