Biometrics from brain electrical activity: a machine learning approach   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The potential of brain electrical activity generated as a response to a visual stimulus is examined in the context of the identification of individuals. Specifically, a framework for the visual evoked potential (VEP)-based biometrics is established, whereby energy features of the gamma band within VEP signals were of particular interest. A rigorous analysis is conducted which unifies and extends results from our previous studies, in particular, with respect to 1) increased bandwidth, 2) spatial averaging, 3) more robust power spectrum features, and 4) improved classification accuracy. The third generation benchmark control problem for seismically excited nonlinear buildings is an effort to evaluate the developed control strategies in order to apply them in field applications. As the fuzzy logic control systems have been applied effectively in various fields, including vibration control of structures, a multiobjective optimal fuzzy logic control system has been proposed in this paper. Two types of control devices, namely, active and hybrid, driven by a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) have been considered in the present study. Nondimensionalized peak interstory drift ratio and peak floor acceleration have been used as the two objective functions for the multiobjective optimal design problem. A two-branch tournament genetic algorithm has been used to find a set of Pareto-optimal solutions, as the optimization problem is not necessarily continuous or convex. Performance of the FLC driven active and hybrid control systems have been evaluated for all three third generation benchmark problems for seismically excited nonlinear buildings (3-, 9- and 20-story). Acceleration and velocity information of different floors have been used as feedback to the FLC. This approach provides a set of Pareto optimal designs, from which a controller design can be selected for the required performance. The FLC driven active control system performs better than the sample controller given in the benchmark problem. Though the number of sensors and control devices are far less, the performance of the hybrid is close to the active control system.  相似文献

Performance of the structure includes both the safety as well as comfort level for the user. The safety of the structure mainly depends on the displacement response, while the comfort level of occupants depends on the acceleration response. In this paper, an approach for multiobjective optimal design of a fuzzy logic controller (FLC)-driven active tuned mass damper (ATMD) has been proposed. The evaluation criteria for both the acceleration and displacement responses have been used as the two objective functions for this multiobjective optimization problem. As a multiobjective optimization approach provides a set of Pareto-optimal solutions, the user is allowed to select an appropriate design for the specific performance requirement. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed FLC-driven ATMD has been investigated for the third-generation benchmark problem for the response control of wind-excited tall buildings. A multiobjective optimization version of the genetic algorithm has been used for obtaining the FLC and ATMD design parameters, as this approach is more effective in handling a discontinuous and nonconvex domain. Performance of the proposed control system has been found to be better than the sample controller given in the benchmark problem. The proposed controller is less sensitive than the sample controller for the variation in the stiffness of the structure.  相似文献

A new large pore tin-silicate analogue of zeolite ZSM-12 (MTW topology) with Si/Sn molar ratio >70 has been synthesized hydrothermally using a new template, hexamethylene bis(benzyl dimethyl ammonium hydroxide). This material exhibits an expansion in unit cell volume (XRD), an IR band at 970 cm–1 and a charge transfer band at 205 nm in the UV-Vis region indicating the presence of Si-O-Sn units with Sn4+ centers in Td configuration. Sn-ZSM-12 catalyzes the oxidation of phenol,m-cresol andm-xylene using dilute H2O2 as an oxidizing agent.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a novel coherent receiver with feedback for high-linearity analog photonic links. In the proposed feedback receiver, a local phase modulator tracks the phase change of the signal and reduces the effective swing across the phase demodulator without reducing the transmitted signal. The signal-to-noise-ratio is thus maintained while linearity is improved. Up to 20-dB improvement in spur-free dynamic range (SFDR) is achieved experimentally. At 3.13 mA of average photocurrent per photodiode, the measured SFDR is 124.3 dBmiddotHz2/3, which corresponds to an SFDR of 131.5 dBmiddotHz2/3 when the link is shot-noise-limited  相似文献

A novel, addition-curable maleimide-functional novolac phenolic resin was evaluated for adhesive properties such as lap shear strength and T-peel strength using aluminium adherends, when thermally self-cured and cocured with epoxy resins. The adhesive properties of the self-cured resin, although inferior at ambient temperature, improved at high temperature and were found to depend on the cure conditions. When cocured with epoxy resin, the adhesive properties improved significantly and showed a strong dependence on the nature of the epoxy resin used, on the stoichiometry of the reactants, on the concentration of imide groups in the phenolic resin, and on the extent of polymerization of the maleimide groups. Optimum adhesive properties were obtained for novolac resins with a moderate concentration of maleimide groups, taken on a 1 : 1 hydroxyl–epoxy stoichiometry with a novolac epoxy resin. In comparison to the conventional novolac, the imide–novolac contributed to improved adhesion and better adhesive property retention at higher temperature when cured with the novolac–epoxy resin. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Appropriate data distribution has been found to be critical for obtaining good performance on distributed memory multicomputers such as the Thinking Machines CM-5, Intel Paragon, and IBM SP-1/SP-2. It has also been found that some programs need to change their distributions during execution for better performance (redistribution). This work focuses on automatically generating efficient routines for redistribution. We present a new mathematical representation for regular distributions called FALLS and then discuss algorithms for redistribution based on this representation. One of the significant contributions of this work is being able to handle arbitrary source and target processor sets while performing redistribution. Another important contribution is the ability to handle an arbitrary number of dimensions for the array involved in the redistribution in a scalable manner. Our implementation of these techniques is based on the MPI communication library. The results presented show the efficiency and scalability of our redistribution algorithm.  相似文献

Thermal shock characteristics of plasma sprayed mullite coatings   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Commercially available mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2) powders containing oxides of calcium and iron as impurities, have been made suitable for plasma spraying by using an organic binder. Stainless steel substrates covered with Ni-22Cr-10Al-1.0Y bond coat were spray coated with mullite. The 425 μm thick coatings were subjected to thermal shock cycling under burner rig conditions between 1000 and 1200 °C and less than 200 °C with holding times of 1, 5, and 30 min. While the coatings withstood as high as 1000 shock cycles without failure between 1000 and 200 °C, spallation occurred early at 120 cycles when shocked from 1200 °C. The coatings appeared to go through a process of self erosion at high temperatures resulting in loss of material. Also observed were changes attributable to melting of the silicate grains, which smooth down the surface. Oxidation of the bond coat did not appear to influence the failure. These observations were supported by detailed scanning electron microscopy and quantitative chemical composition analysis, differential thermal analysis, and surface roughness measurements.  相似文献

Resole phenolic resins containing various p-cresol (PC) to phenol (P) mol ratios were prepared and characterized. These phenolic resins were blended with nitrile rubber (NBR) and the measurements of adhesive joint strength, stress–strain properties, DSC, TGA, DMA, TEM, and SEM were performed using a 50 : 50 NBR/phenolic resin blend. It was observed that the adhesive joint strength and the mechanical properties of the blend enhanced significantly on incorporation of p-cresol into the phenolic resin, and the optimum p-cresol/phenol mol ratio was in the vicinity of 2 : 1. Observation of a more continuous phase and the increase in Tg of the rubber region in the blend indicated increased reactivity and compatibilization of NBR with phenolic resin as p-cresol was incorporated. The effect of silica filler on the properties of the nitrile rubber/phenolic resin blend was also studied without and with p-cresol modification and the results suggest that silica filler take not only the role of a reinforcing filler in the nitrile–phenolic–silica composite, but also a role as surface compatibilizer of the blend components. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
