7,8-Dichloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (DCTQ) (50 mg/kg i.p.) antagonized the inactivation of MAO by pargyline as measured by direct enzyme assays in brain homogenates and by accumulation of hypothalamic catecholamines. These findings lend credence to the earlier interpretation that changes in brain concentrations of biogenic amines and their metabolites in DCTQ-treated rats were due at least in part to MAO inhibition.  相似文献

We here demonstrated the prophylactic effect of an extract (KM-110) from Viscum album coloratum, a Korean mistletoe, on tumor metastasis produced by highly metastatic tumor cells, colon 26-M3.1 carcinoma, B16-BL6 melanoma and L5178Y-ML25 lymphoma cells, using experimental models in mice. Intravenous (i.v.) administration of KM-110 (100 microg/mouse) 2 days before tumor inoculation significantly inhibited lung metastasis of B16-BL6 and colon 26-M3.1 cells, and liver and spleen metastasis of L5178Y-ML25 cells. The prophylactic effect of KM-110 on tumor metastasis was evident with various administration routes, i.e. subcutaneous, oral, intranasal as well as i.v., and was dependent upon the dose of KM-110 administered. Furthermore, mice given KM-110 (100 microg) 2 days before tumor inoculation showed significantly prolonged survival rates compared with the untreated mice. In a time course analysis of NK activity, i.v. administration of KM-110 (100 microg) significantly augmented NK cytotoxicity to Yac-a tumor cells from 1 to 3 days after KM-110 treatment. Furthermore, depletion NK cells by injection of rabbit anti-asialo GM1 serum completely abolished the inhibitory effect of KM-110 on lung metastasis of colon 26-M3.1 cells. These results suggest that KM-110 possesses immunopotentiating activity which enhances the host defense system against tumors, and that its prophylactic effect on tumor metastasis is mediated by NK cell activation.  相似文献

Polypropylene mesh, the routinely used material for mesh laparostomies is expensive. A economical and easily available substitute-nylon net was compared with polypropylene mesh with regard to efficacy and wound complications in a retrospective study. 51 patients, 25 in the polypropylene mesh group and 26 in the nylon net group were studied. The groups were matched with respect to age, sex, indication for surgery and mortality. The mean hospital stay (65 vs 54 days), fate of the wound, incidence of mesh extrusion (26% vs 20%), bowel perforation (1 vs none) and incisional hernia formation (21% vs 20%) in those with polypropylene mesh and nylon net respectively was similar. In conclusion, nylon net is an effective and inexpensive indigenous substitute for polypropylene mesh for mesh laparostomies.  相似文献

The motion of a single, spherical particle, released at different radial positions at the inlet of the entrance region of a straight circular laminar flow tube (Re = 260), was studied theoretically. Radial migration of the particle, either toward the tube center or toward the tube wall, was predicted. Based on the hypothesis that the particle experienced a lift force which was produced by the vorticity in the boundary layer and a velocity difference between the center of the suspended particle and the fluid medium, an inertia-vorticity fluid dynamic model was formulated to analyze the particle radial motions. Computational flow dynamics (CFD) solutions obtained from a 9.8 mm diameter tube model included the resulting particle loci for three particle radii (a = 0.1 cm, 0.085 cm, 0.050 cm), with the particle entry at various radial positions. The computation also covered a range of different particle entry speeds. The results showed that the particle migrates toward the tube center if it lags behind the medium in the core region; otherwise, it migrates toward the tube wall. Additional flow experiments were conducted in a circular (2R = 10.2 mm), 300 mm long straight tube. A small polystyrene sphere (2a = 1.72 mm, density rho p = 1.014 g.cm-3) was released at the inlet (X = 0, eta/R = 0.48) with two dimesionless release velocities (omega p = 0, and omega p > 1.0). The recorded particle traces agree well with the computational model.  相似文献

Little is known about the epidemiology of renal stones, in spite of the relative frequency of this painful condition. This population-based study examined reported renal stone diagnosis in 1,309 women aged 20-92 years to determine whether renal stones are associated with 1) food or water exposures or 2) lower bone mineral density and an increased likelihood of fractures. Results indicated a renal stone prevalence of 3.4%. The average age at diagnosis was 42 years. Renal stone formation was not associated with community of residence, hypertension, bone mineral density, fractures, high-oxalate food consumption, or ascorbic acid from food supplements. Women with renal stones consumed almost 250 mg/day less dietary calcium (p < 0.01) than did women without stones and had a lower energy intake (p < 0.04). The authors' findings do not support the hypothesis that increased dietary calcium is associated with a greater prevalence of renal stones, nor do they identify renal stones as a risk factor for low bone mineral density. Furthermore, lack of other identifiable environmental correlates and the relatively young age at initial diagnosis suggest that genetic components of renal stone formation need further study.  相似文献
