Raw and cooked beef and pork loins were irradiated at 0 or 5 kGy. The radiation-induced marker compounds, such as hydrocarbons, 2-alkylcyclobutanones (2-ACBs), and sulfur volatiles, were determined after 0 and 6 mo of frozen storage. Two hydrocarbons (8-heptadecene [C(17:1)] and 6,9-heptadecadiene [C(17:2)]) and two 2-ACBs (2-dodecylcyclobutanone [2-DCB] and 2-tetradecylcyclobutanone [2-TCB]) were detected only in irradiated raw and cooked meats. Although precooked irradiated meats produced more hydrocarbons and 2-ACBs than the irradiated cooked ones, the amounts of individual hydrocarbons and 2-ACBs, such as 8-heptadecene, 6,9-heptadecadiene, 2-DCB, and 2-TCB, were sufficient enough to detect whether the meat was irradiated or not. Dimethyl disulfide and dimethyl trisulfide were also determined only in irradiated meats but dimethyl trisulfide disappeared after 6 mo of frozen storage under oxygen-permeable packaging conditions. The results indicated that 8-heptadecene, 6,9-heptadecadiene, 2-DCB, 2-TCB, and dimethyl disulfide, even though they were decreased with storage, could be used as marker compounds for the detection of irradiated beef and pork regardless of cooking under the frozen conditions for 6 mo. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Radiation-induced chemical changes such as specific hydrocarbons, 2-ACBs, and sulfur volatiles may be used as potential identification markers by regulatory authorities to confirm irradiation history of frozen stored raw or cooked beef and pork.  相似文献

This research investigated the influence of sand grain size on the behavior of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCC). Four types of sand with different grain sizes were investigated using the same matrix composition containing 2.0% hooked and twisted fibers by volume. The compressive strength was significantly greater for the finer sand grains, despite little difference in the packing density. The better compressive strength was mainly due to the denser calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) resulting from an intensive pozzolanic reaction with the finer silica sand, rather than to an improvement in packing density. The interfacial bond strength of those fibers was notably improved, having favorable effects on the mechanical properties and multiple crack formation of HPFRCCs. Although both fibers showed superior properties in mortars with a finer sand grain, twisted fiber produced more sensitive behavior according to the sand grain size.  相似文献

In this article, we report on the extraction of Sr(II) ions from aqueous solution with a series of poly(N‐vinyl imidazole)‐based hydrogels. The hydrogels were synthesized by the crosslinking of N‐vinyl imidazole with four different crosslinkers with γ rays as initiators. The well‐characterized hydrogels were used as Sr(II) sorbents. Sr(II) uptake was determined with a colorimetric method with Rose Bengal anionic dye. Scanning electron microscopy–energy‐dispersive spectroscopy analysis of the Sr(II)‐loaded polymers was recorded to ascertain the uptake of Sr(II) ions. The experimental adsorption values were analyzed with the Freundlich and Temkin equations, and the kinetics of adsorption were investigated with a pseudo‐second‐order sorption kinetic model. The results show that the equilibrium data fit well in the Freundlich isotherm and followed a pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Environment-friendly lime paints were prepared from 38 wt% slurries of hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2) and hydrated light burned dolomite (Ca(OH)2·Mg(OH)2). These materials and the resulting paints?? antibacterial and antimold properties were investigated. The hydrated lime used in this study contained 97 wt% Ca(OH)2, which implies a 71.85 wt% equivalence of CaO. This 71.85 wt% CaO content was responsible for the antibacterial and anti-mold characteristics. The antibacterial and anti-mold characteristics of the hydrated light burned dolomite were attributed to its 56 wt% CaO and 44 wt% MgO contents. The antibacterial-reducing activities of 38 wt% hydrated lime and hydrated light burned dolomite slurries were found to be 99%. Their anti-mold activities against mixed strains were outstanding. Lime paints produced from the slurries and various additives also showed 99% antibacterial activity and outstanding anti-mold activity. The paints?? low total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) releases were graded as excellent. Their formaldehyde (HCHO) releases were classed as best through excellent, indicating their suitability as environment-friendly building materials.  相似文献

Macroporous silica (MS) and macro/mesoporous silica (MMS) were prepared by spray drying a polystyrene (PS) latex sol containing a silica source, followed by calcination. As a silica source, 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APS) was used for MS while either silica sol (SS) or tetraethoxyothosilicate using P123 templating (P123-TEOS) was used for MMS. Spray drying and calcination could also take place in a once-through aerosol reactor. The transformation of the silicon alkoxides to silica and decomposition of PS occurred at similar temperatures. Therefore, for APS-originated MS, the metal additives such as silver and nickel were required to accelerate the former. In addition, the nickel was well dispersed in the silica matrix during calcination even at 800 °C, in turn to thermally stabilize the porous structures. The wall-preforming additives were unnecessary for PS/SS and PS/P123-TEOS, since the SS drying and P123 templating, respectively, took place at lower temperature than PS decomposition. The porosities of all the porous silica prepared ranged from 0.54 to 0.57, which were close to the volume fraction of PS in the PS-alkoxides mixture solidified right after spray drying.  相似文献

To effectively reduce CO2, CO2 mitigation technologies should be employed tactically. This paper focuses on carbon capture and storage (CCS) as the most promising CO2 reduction technology and investigates how to establish CCS strategy suitably. We confirm a major part of the optimal strategy for CCS infrastructure planning through a literature review according to mathematical optimization criteria associated with facility location models. In particular, the feasibility of large scale CCS infrastructure is evaluated through economic, environmental, and technical assessment. The current state-of-the-art optimization techniques for CCS infrastructure planning are also addressed while taking numerous factors into account. Finally, a list of issues for future research is highlighted.  相似文献

A barrier layer of undoped TiO2 was deposited on the Nb‐doped TiO2 electrode to suppress the recombination at the Nb‐doped TiO2/dye–electrolyte interface for highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The Nb content in TiO2 was varied in a range of 0.7–3.5 mol% to modify the TiO2 energy‐band structure. Nb‐doped TiO2/dye interfaces were characterized by a combination of ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy and optical absorption spectroscopy measurements, allowing the determination of the conduction band minimum (CBM) of the TiO2 electrode and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of the N719 dye. The lowering of TiO2 CBM by Nb doping induced the increase in short‐circuit current of DSCs. However, open‐circuit voltage and fill factor are decreased, and this result was ascribed to the enhanced recombination at the Nb‐doped TiO2/dye–electrolyte interface. The effect of doping on charge transport in DSCs was analyzed using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. We have shown that by introducing of TiO2 barrier layer, the Nb doping content, which results in DSC highest efficiency, can be increased because of the suppression of the dopant‐induced recombination. The energy conversion efficiency of the solar cells increased from 7.8% to 9.0% when undoped TiO2 electrode is replaced with electrode doped with 2.7 mol% of Nb because of the improvement of the electron injection and collection efficiencies. The correlation between the electronic structure of the TiO2 electrode, charge transfer characteristics, and photovoltaic parameters of DSCs is discussed. A hybrid manufacturing approach for organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) on flexible substrates is reported. The technology is based on conventional and digital printing (screen and inkjet printing), laser processing, and post‐press technologies. A careful selection of the conductive, dielectric, and semiconductor materials with respect to their optical properties enables a self‐aligning pattern formation which results in a significant reduction of the usual registration problems during manufacturing. For the prototype OECTs, based on this technology, on/off ratios up to 600 and switching times of 100 milliseconds at gate voltages in the range of 1 V were obtained.  相似文献

Universal scaling features of polarization switching are established experimentally in rather different classes of disordered ferroelectrics: in well‐studied lead‐zirconate titanate (PZT) ferroelectrics, in recently synthesized Cu‐stabilized 0.94(Bi1/2Na1/2)TiO3–0.06BaTiO3 (BNT‐BT) relaxor ferroelectrics, and in classical organic ferroelectrics P(VDF‐TrFE). These scaling properties are explained by an extended concept of an inhomogeneous field mechanism (IFM) of polarization dynamics in ferroelectrics. Accordingly, disordered ferroelectrics exhibit a wide spectrum of characteristic switching times due to a statistical distribution of values of the local electric field. How this distribution can be extracted from polarization measurements is demonstrated. Generally, it is shown that the polarization response is primarily controlled by the statistical characteristics of disorder rather than by a temporal law of the local polarization switching.  相似文献

A comparison of irradiation effects on injected and uninjected fresh pork loin quality was conducted. Sixty pork loins from pigs of similar genetics were obtained from a pork harvesting facility immediately prior to processing. Thirty loins were injected with a brine composed of 2.17% salt/3.04% phosphate/20.8% lactate brine while thirty were not injected. Injected loins were pumped to 13% added weight. Ten loins of each group of thirty were not irradiated while an additional 10 loins were irradiated at 2.2 kGy and the final ten loins were irradiated at 4.4 kGy. Lipid oxidation, color, purge, volatiles, and tenderness were measured on sections of the treated loins after 0, 7, 21, and 35 days of refrigerated storage. Lipid oxidation was minimal for the 0 and the 2.2 kGy-treated loins, but was significantly greater (P<0.05) at day 35 for the loins treated with 4.4 kGy. Warner-Bratzler shear (WBS) force measurements were significantly lower (P<0.05) for the injected loins, but irradiation did not have an effect on shear force. Purge was significantly lower for the uninjected loins irradiated at 2.2 kGy than for those irradiated at 0 and 4.4 kGy. The injection treatment did not alter the effects of irradiation on the quality characteristics measured.  相似文献
