Unilateral removal of vibrissae in rats induces an asymmetry in the side of the face used to scan the wall while traversing the edge of an open field (thigmotactic scanning). This behavioral asymmetry recovers over time. The time course of asymmetry and recovery was systematically analyzed by testing groups of rats deprived of vibrissae for different periods of time. The preferential use of the hemiface with intact vibrissae persisted up to 3 days after vibrissae removal. It was expressed maximally during the first minute of testing. This phase was followed by a rapid return to symmetry by Day 6. Recovery to symmetry involved both a decrease in duration of scanning with the vibrissae-intact side and an increase with the vibrissae-clipped side of the face, with the total duration remaining constant throughout the states of asymmetry and recovery. The time course of behavioral recovery corresponds to the time course of neural plasticity in the basal ganglia that accompanies hemivibrissotomy, a result suggesting a functional link between the two phenomena. We have been exploring the mechanism of action of 5-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) methylhydantoin (hydantoin), an antiviral drug that inhibits the replication of poliovirus in culture. By varying the time of drug addition to infected cells, we found that the drug acts at a stage which is late in the replication cycle and subsequent to the step inhibited by guanidine. Furthermore, we detected normal levels of full-length plus-strand virion RNA in hydantoin-treated cultures. A new assembly intermediate in addition to the expected assembly intermediates was detected in drug-treated cultures. This intermediate has properties consistent with that of a packaging intermediate. Drug-resistant mutants were readily isolated. Sequence analysis of three independent drug-resistant mutants identified amino acid substitutions in the 2C coding region. Reconstruction by site-directed mutagenesis confirmed that these single mutations were sufficient to confer drug resistance. Taken together, these data suggest that the poliovirus 2C region is involved in virus encapsidation and that hydantoin inhibits this stage of replication.  相似文献

Durch Modifikation wird die Prandtl-Reuss-Theorie so erweitert, daß im elastisch-plastischen Übergangsbereich die Formänderungskinematik zutreffender beschrieben wird. Mit Hilfe der FEM-Theorie wird nun das elastisch-plastische Modell eines einachsigen Fadenverbundwerkstoffs mit metallischer Matrix beschrieben. A feeding experiment with brown layers was carried out to find effects of graded levels of rapeseed (without, 15% and 30%) in layer diets on the fatty acid composition of egg yolk and related functional properties of such modified eggs. A considerable increase of the content of essential n-3 fatty acids in egg yolk fat was noticed by including graded levels of rapeseed in layer diets. The destruction force of a gel prepared from whole egg was improved by the highest rapeseed level (30%) and emulsifying capacity by medium inclusion of rapeseed in layer diets (15%). The thermal stability of an emulsion prepared from whole egg was not influenced by rape feeding. Viscosity of mayonnaise prepared from egg yolk and whole egg yolk was decreased by increased rapeseed levels in the diets. In tendency, organoleptic evaluation of sponge cake prepared from whole egg revealed better results for the control group. The baking height of sponge cake was improved by rapeseed inclusion in layer diets. It may be assumed that all these changes caused by rapeseed feeding are closely related to the mentioned changes in the fatty acid profile.  相似文献

A testing method has been developed to characterize stiffness and permanent deformation of bone-implant systems. The system consists of an artificial tibia with simulated distal fracture stabilized by an unreamed intramedullary nail. This system was loaded with three different sequences at 2 Hz, each consisting of 40,000 sinusoidal cycles, simulating clinical relevant loading conditions. Evaluation of the results showed a stiffness of 2782 N/mm with a standard deviation of 311 N/mm and a permanent deformation of 0.64 mm with a standard deviation of 0.21 mm. The locking screws broke exclusively during the third loading sequence starting with the most proximal of the distal screws. The study provides a standard technique for biomechanical testing and a comparison of different bone/implant-systems avoiding the variability of cadaver bone tests.  相似文献

The prediction of over-pressures and temperatures that are generated by hydrogen explosions in case of a severe nuclear accident is a crucial stage of the safety analysis of the containment. The investigation presented in this paper is a continuation of the numerical studies of validation and benchmarking that were carried out in the European co-sponsored project HYCOM. In the present work, numerical simulations of hydrogen deflagrations within a simplified, real-scale European Pressure Reactor (EPR) containment have been performed with two CFD codes, CFX4 and REACFLOW. The analysis has been focused not only on overpressure peaks and pressure oscillations, but also on pressure differences between the two sides of the same wall of internal compartments. Different geometrical configurations have been considered in term of presence of vents between internal compartments and in term of vents number, size and position. Single and multiple ignition points have also been taken into account. The paper describes the main results of the investigation and it is a demonstration of how CFD modelling can provide significant indications for real-scale safety applications within the limits of uncertainty of the accident scenarios.  相似文献
