Accelerated storage tests are frequently used to assess the oxidative stability of foods and related systems due to its reproducibility. Various methods and experimental conditions are used to measure lipid oxidation. Differences between laboratories make it necessary to determine the repeatability and reproducibility of oxidation tests performed under the same conditions. The objective of the present interlaboratory study was to evaluate the outcome of a storage test for two different bulk oils, sunflower oil (SFO) and rapeseed oil (RSO), during a period of 9 weeks at 20°C, 30°C, 40°C, and 60°C. Sixteen laboratories were provided with bottled oils and conducted the storage tests according to a detailed protocol. Lipid oxidation was monitored by the formation of conjugated dienes (CD) and the activation energy (Ea) was determined for comparative purposes and statistically evaluated. An increase in CD formation was observed for both oils when the storage temperature was increased in all laboratories. The Ea,1 ranged from 47.9 to 73.3 kJ mol−1 in RSO and from 27.8 to 62.6 kJ mol−1 in SFO, with average values of 58.2 and 46.8 kJ mol−1, respectively. The reproducibility coefficients were 10.9% and 18.2% for RSO and SFO, respectively. Practical applications: In order to compare results on oxidative stability of foods derived from different studies, the reproducibility of storage tests and methods employed to evaluate the oxidation level should be considered. This study provides fundamental data on the reproducibility of lipid oxidation under accelerated storage conditions and defines important parameters to be considered for the conduction of experiments.  相似文献

Crosslinked hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels are widely used in gel/HA fluid formulations as a viscosupplement to treat joint diseases; thus, it is important to characterize these hydrogels in terms of their particle size and to investigate the effects of the gel/fluid mixtures on their rheological properties and extrusion force. Hydrogels previously crosslinked with divinyl sulfone were sheared in an Ultra‐Turrax unit to produce particles with mean diameters ranging from 20 to 200 μm. Hydrogels with 75–100 μm mean diameters were also evaluated in dispersions containing a 20–40% mass fraction of HA fluid. The mean diameters were measured by laser light scattering and the rheological behavior was determined by oscillatory and steady measurements in parallel plate geometry. The HA hydrogels exhibited the typical behavior of so‐called weak gels, as analyzed by the storage and loss moduli G′ and G″, respectively. The viscoelasticity, the viscosity, and the extrusion force increased with the hydrogel particle size. The fluid phase dispersions decreased both moduli. At 40% fluid fraction, the gel characteristics were lost and the dispersion behaved as a fluid. Based on these results, the particle size and HA fluid fraction in hydrogel dispersions may be optimized to develop more efficient viscosupplement formulations. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Spent coffee grounds (SCG), which are the residue obtained from the treatment of coffee with hot water or steam, can be used for industrial applications, due to the high content in lipids. The cosmetic products might be a suitable application for these types of residues because the barrier properties of the stratum corneum (SC) are largely dependent on the intactness of the lipid lamellae that surrounds the corneocytes. The purpose of this work was to assess the feasibility of using the lipid fraction of SCG extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide in the development of new cosmetic formulations with improved skin lipids (sebum) and hydration. The use of spent coffee lipid extract in cosmetic industry seems to be a suitable approach to recycle the wastes from coffee industry. Emulsion containing 10% of the lipid fraction of SCG (SpentCofOil cream) presented promising characteristics in the improvement of sebum skin levels with a good acceptance by consumers when compared to an emulsion containing 10% w/w of green coffee oil (GreenCofOil cream) and a placebo without coffee oil (NoCofOil cream). Practical applications: In this work, the authors develop and characterize a cream containing 10% of the lipid fraction of SCG extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide with improved skin lipids (sebum) and hydration.  相似文献

Liquid crystalline (LC) polyurethanes were made from two diisocyanates (flexible HMDI and stiff TDI) (DIs), mesogenic diol (D) and a polybutadiene-diol (B) with stoichiometric ratios of reactive hydroxy (OH) and isocyanate (NCO) groups ((NCO)DI/((OH)D+(OH)B)=1/1). Two- (B/DIs, D/DIs) and three-component ((D+B)/DIs, D/B=1/1 by weight) polymers were prepared and their dielectric, dynamic mechanical and DSC behavior was investigated. For neat B, the glass transition temperature TgB (∼−46 °C) was detected. Two-component B/HMDI and B/TDI polymers have exhibited a homogeneous structure with the glass transition temperatures TgU∼−9 and 2 °C. On the other hand, for D/DI polymers on cooling from the melt and subsequent heating the glass transitions at TgU∼41 °C (D/HMDI) and 58 °C (D/TDI) together with nematic and smectic mesophases were found. In three-component systems, additional glass transitions at TgB∼−41 °C (B/D/HMDI) and −31 °C (B/D/TDI) were observed. This means that the polymers exhibit a distinct two-phase structure with soft polybutadiene (B) and hard polyurethane (D/DI) phases. In hard polyurethane phase, the glass transitions at TgU and LC mesophases similar to those found in two-component D/DI polyurethanes were detected. Dielectric and dynamic mechanical results correlate well with DSC measurements.  相似文献

A procedure has been proposed for the estimation of the terminal falling velocity of non-spherical particles moving in a Carreau model fluid in the transition flow region. The procedure is based on a modification of the relationship formerly developed for the fall of spherical particles including the particle dynamic shape factor. The suitability of the proposed procedure has been confirmed by good agreement between experimental and calculated terminal falling velocity data. In the experiments, the terminal falling velocity of short cylinders and rectangular prisms in polymer solutions of different measure of shear thinning and elasticity has been measured.  相似文献

Enzymatic synthesis is an elegant biocompatible approach to complex compounds such as human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). These compounds are vital for healthy neonatal development with a positive impact on the immune system. Although HMOs may be prepared by glycosyltransferases, this pathway is often complicated by the high price of sugar nucleotides, stringent substrate specificity, and low enzyme stability. Engineered glycosidases (EC 3.2.1) represent a good synthetic alternative, especially if variations in the substrate structure are desired. Site-directed mutagenesis can improve the synthetic process with higher yields and/or increased reaction selectivity. So far, the synthesis of human milk oligosaccharides by glycosidases has mostly been limited to analytical reactions with mass spectrometry detection. The present work reveals the potential of a library of engineered glycosidases in the preparative synthesis of three tetrasaccharides derived from lacto-N-tetraose (Galβ4GlcNAcβ3Galβ4Glc), employing sequential cascade reactions catalyzed by β3-N-acetylhexosaminidase BbhI from Bifidobacterium bifidum, β4-galactosidase BgaD-B from Bacillus circulans, β4-N-acetylgalactosaminidase from Talaromyces flavus, and β3-galactosynthase BgaC from B. circulans. The reaction products were isolated and structurally characterized. This work expands the insight into the multi-step catalysis by glycosidases and shows the path to modified derivatives of complex carbohydrates that cannot be prepared by standard glycosyltransferase methods.  相似文献

In this work, the results of a study comparing the use of irradiation from different regions of the infrared spectrum for the promotion of several organic reactions, are presented and discussed. This use of eco-conditions provides a green approach to chemical synthesis. A set of ten different organic reactions were evaluated, including the Knoevenagel, Hantzsch, Biginelli and Meldrum reactions. It is important to highlight the use of a commercial device that produces infrared irradiation in the near infrared region and its distribution by convection providing heating uniformity, significantly reducing reaction times, achieving good yields and proceeding in the absence of solvent. It is also worth noting that a variety of different reactions may be performed at the same time. Finally, the products obtained were identified using TLC, together with corresponding MS-data, complementarily in comparison of NMR (1)H and (13)C data with literature information.  相似文献

A series of colour assays were conducted taking into account old bibliographic recommendations and oral testimony regarding traditional lime painting technology from the Alentejo (South Portugal) region. The main objectives were: (a) the colorimetric analysis of paintings made with different limewash preparation methods; (b) the comparison between natural processed red and yellows ochre pigments (“home made” and from industrial origin) and synthetic iron oxides in different concentrations and lime proportions; (c) the evaluation of the colorimetric CIELAB coordinates during the lime carbonation process in coloured mortars and limewashes. The results shows that the evolution of L*, a*, and b* during the carbonation process is independent of pigment concentration and paint thickness but dependent of pigment composition and finishing technique (lime painting or coloured mortar). The oil obtained from the Caryocar coriaceum Wittm. (pequi) fruit pulp (C. coriaceum fixed oil – CCFO), rich in fatty acids, has been secularly employed by traditional medicine in the treatment of respiratory affections, skin inflammation, and wounds. These observations encouraged us to investigate the antimicrobial activity of CCFO and to investigate its effect in combination with aminoglycosides. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of CCFO alone and associated with aminoglycosides against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus strains were determined using microdilution assay. CCFO alone had a MIC of 512 µg/mL against E. coli and S. aureus resistant strains. Combining the CCFO with aminoglycosides reduced the MIC of aminoglycosides against the resistant strains of E. coli and S. aureus. The results obtained indicate that CCFO displays a significant synergistic antibiotic effect when combined with aminoglycosides, demonstrating that the oil constituents (fatty acids) may act as potentiators of the antibiotic activity of aminoglycosides. These properties make CCFO oil an interesting alternative as a remedy or nutraceutical against multiresistant bacteria, preventing the development of resistance by these microorganisms. Practical applications: This article demonstrates the capacity of the C. coriaceum oil to enhance the antibiotic activity of aminoglycosides. This activity could represent a new way to combat the growing bacterial resistance to antibiotics, an important problem of public health.  相似文献

Collagenous material was obtained from chicken feet skins and tendons, defatted with ethylic ether and treated with 0.05 M and 0.6 M NaCl solutions. Part of the material was dried at 35 degrees C in a forced air convection oven and another was freeze-dried. The air dried material had 77.2 g/100 g of collagen and the freeze-dried material 76.7 g/100 g. Both dehydrated materials showed the same behaviour for gel formation and cold water holding capacity. The material air dried had higher emulsifying capacity than the freeze-dried one. The collagen of freeze-dried material had higher solubility in 0.5 M acetic acid and water at 70 degrees C than air dried material. Gel strength, emulsion stability and water holding capacity at 60 degrees C were higher for freeze-dried material. The results indicate the potential use of these materials as functional ingredients in meat products.  相似文献
