This paper presents a newly developed method to estimate, in magnetic resonance (MR) images, the temperatures reached within the volume of an iceball produced by a cryogenic probe. Building on the direct measurements of the MR signal intensity and its correlation with independent temperature variations at the phase transition from liquid to solid, the thermal information embedded in the images was accessed. The volume and diameter of the growing iceball were estimated from a time series of MR images. Using regressions over the volume in the time and thermal domains, this method predicted the cryogenic temperatures beyond the range of sensitivity of the MR signal itself. We present a validation of this method in samples of gelatin and ex vivo pig liver. Temperature predictions are shown to agree with independent thermosensor readings over a range extending from 20 degrees C down to -65 degrees C, with an average error of less than 6 degrees C.  相似文献

Shapes provide a rich set of clues on the identity and topological properties of an object. In many imaging environments, however, the same object appears to have different shapes due to distortions such as translation, rotation, reflection, scaling, or skewing. Further, the order by which the object's feature points are scanned changes, i.e., the order of the pixels may be permuted. Relating two-dimensional shapes of the same object distorted by different affine and permutation transformations is a challenge. We introduce a shape invariant that we refer to as the intrinsic shape of an object and describe an algorithm, BLAISER, to recover it. The intrinsic shape is invariant to affine-permutation distortions. It is a uniquely defined representative of the equivalence class of all affine-permutation distortions of the same object. BLAISER computes the intrinsic shape from any arbitrarily affine-permutation distorted image of the object, without prior knowledge regarding the distortions or the undistorted shape of the object. The critical step of BLAISER is the determination of the shape orientation and we provide a detailed discussion on this topic. The operations of BLAISER are based on low-order moments of the input shape and, thus, robust to error and noise. Examples illustrate the performance of the algorithm.  相似文献

The specification of quality of service (QoS) requirements in most of the existing networks is still challenging. In part, traditional network environments are limited by their high administrative cost, although software-defined networks (SDNs), a newer network paradigm, simplify the management of the whole network infrastructure. In fact, SDN provides a simple way to effectively develop QoS provisioning mechanisms. In this sense, we explore the SDN model and its flexibility to develop a QoS provisioning architecture. Through the use of our new architecture, network operators are able to specify QoS levels in a simple way. Each individual data flow can be addressed, and the architecture we propose also negotiates the QoS requirements between the network controller and applications. On the other hand, the network controller continuously monitors the network environment. Then, it allocates network elements resources and prioritizes traffic, adjusting the network performance. We evaluate the feasibility of our QoS provisioning mechanism by presenting three experimental setups under realistic scenarios. For example, for a given scenario where we evaluate file transfers, our results indicate that the additional SDN modules present negligible overhead. Moreover, for a given setup, we observe a reduction of up to 82% in the file transfer times.  相似文献

It is possible in many cases by using space-time integral equations to compute the scattering and penetration of electromagnetic fields via explicit time-stepping diagrams. The case of conducting surfaces, thin scatterers, apertures and shieldings of finite conductivity are discussed with emphasis on the simplicity and the validity domain of the relevant equations. Examples concern the field of a far-located dipole incident on a cylinder with infinite conductivity, with an aperture or with resistive walls.  相似文献

Lately, demand for fast failure recovery in IP networks has become compelling. The Loop-Free Alternates (LFA) specification is a simple IP Fast ReRoute (IPFRR) scheme proposed by the IETF that does not require profound changes to the network infrastructure before deployment. However, this simplicity comes at a severe price, because LFA does not provide complete protection for all possible failure cases in a general topology. This is even more so if network components are prone to fail jointly. In this paper, we study an important network optimization problem arising in this context, the so called LFA graph extension problem, which asks for augmenting the topology with new links in an attempt to improve the LFA failure case coverage. Unfortunately, this problem is NP-complete. The main contributions of the paper are a novel extension of the bipartite graph model for the LFA graph extension problem to the multiple-failure case using the model of Shared Risk Groups, and a suite of accompanying heuristics to obtain approximate solutions. We also compare the performance of the algorithms in extensive numerical studies and we conclude that the optimum can be approximated well in most cases relevant to practice.  相似文献

Approximate information on the location of nodes in a sensor network is essential to many types of sensor network applications and algorithms. In many cases, using symbolic coordinates is an attractive alternative to the use of geographic coordinates due to lower costs and lower requirements on the available location information during coordinate assignment. In this paper, we investigate different possible methods of assigning symbolic coordinates to sensor nodes. We present a method based on broadcasting coordinate messages and filtering using sensor events. We show in the evaluation that this method allows a reliable assignment of symbolic coordinates while only generating a low overhead.  相似文献

A multiresolution analysis of digital gray-level images is presented. A gray-level multi-scale framework is determined from two main assumptions: the gray scale is binary at the finest spatial resolution, and the gray levels of composed regions are obtained additively. In order to interrelate the gray-level histograms of the same image at different resolutions, probabilistic linear models are developed, which are then applied for estimation. Linear-optimization theory is used as a way of constructing such models. A general procedure for image processing is sketched, based on gray-level estimation. A versatile algorithm for nonlinear filtering is derived. This study presents a methodology for applying the forced-oscillation technique in total liquid ventilation. It mainly consists of applying sinusoidal volumetric excitation to the respiratory system, and determining the transfer function between the delivered flow rate and resulting airway pressure. The investigated frequency range was f ∈ [0.05, 4] Hz at a constant flow amplitude of 7.5 mL/s. The five parameters of a fractional order lung model, the existing "5-parameter constant-phase model," were identified based on measured impedance spectra. The identification method was validated in silico on computer-generated datasets and the overall process was validated in vitro on a simplified single-compartment mechanical lung model. In vivo data on ten newborn lambs suggested the appropriateness of a fractional-order compliance term to the mechanical impedance to describe the low-frequency behavior of the lung, but did not demonstrate the relevance of a fractional-order inertance term. Typical respiratory system frequency response is presented together with statistical data of the measured in vivo impedance model parameters. This information will be useful for both the design of a robust pressure controller for total liquid ventilators and the monitoring of the patient's respiratory parameters during total liquid ventilation treatment.  相似文献

The design and synthesis of nanostructured functional hybrid biomaterials are essential for the next generation of advanced diagnostics and the treatment of disease. A simple route to fabricate semiconductor nanofibers by self‐assembled, elastin‐like polymer (ELP)‐templated semiconductor nanoparticles is reported. Core–shell nanostructures of CdSe nanoparticles with a shell of ELPs are used as building blocks to fabricate functional one‐dimensional (1D) nanostructures. The CdSe particles are generated in situ within the ELP matrix at room temperature. The ELP controls the size and the size‐distribution of the CdSe nanoparticles in an aqueous medium and simultaneously directs the self‐assembly of core–shell building blocks into fibril architectures. It was found that the self‐assembly of core–shell building blocks into nanofibers is strongly dependent on the pH value of the medium. Results of cytotoxicity and antiproliferation of the CdSe‐ELP nanofibers demonstrate that the CdSe‐ELP does not exhibit any toxicity towards B14 cells. Moreover, these are found to be markedly capable of crossing the cell membrane of B14. In contrast, unmodified CdSe nanoparticles with ELPs cause a strong toxic response and reduction in the cell proliferation. This concept is valid for the fabrication of a variety of metallic and semiconductor 1D‐architectures. Therefore, it is believed that these could be used not only for biomedical purposes but for application in a wide range of advanced miniaturized devices.  相似文献
