Robust and effective optic disc detection is a necessary processing component in automatic retinal screening systems. In this paper, optic disc localization is achieved by a novel illumination correction operation, and contour segmentation is completed by a supervised gradient vector flow snake (SGVF snake) model. Conventional GVF snake is not sufficient to segment contour due to vessel occlusion and fuzzy disc boundaries. In view of this reason, the SGVF snake is extended in each time of deformation iteration, so that the contour points can be classified and updated according to their corresponding feature information. The classification relies on the feature vector extraction and the statistical information generated from training images. This approach is evaluated by means of two publicly available databases, Digital Retinal Images for Vessel Extraction (DRIVE) database and Structured Analysis of the Retina (STARE) database, of color retinal images. The experimental results show that the overall performance is with 95% correct optic disc localization from the two databases and 91% disc boundaries are correctly segmented by the SGVF snake algorithm.  相似文献

Human tumor necrosis factor receptor associated factor (TRAF)-interacting protein, with a forkhead-associated domain (TIFA), is a key regulator of NF-κB activation. It also plays a key role in the activation of innate immunity in response to bacterial infection, through heptose 1,7-bisphosphate (HBP); a metabolite of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). However, the mechanism of TIFA function is largely unexplored, except for the suggestion of interaction with TRAF6. Herein, we provide evidence for direct binding, albeit weak, between TIFA and the TRAF domain of TRAF6, and it is shown that the binding is enhanced for a rationally designed double mutant, TIFA S174Q/M179D. Enhanced binding was also demonstrated for endogenous full-length TRAF6. Furthermore, the structures of the TRAF domain complexes with the consensus TRAF-binding peptides from the C terminus of wild-type and S174Q/M179D mutant TIFA, showing salt-bridge formation between residues 177–181 of TIFA and the binding pocket residues of the TRAF domain, were solved. Taken together, the results provide direct evidence and a structural basis for the TIFA–TRAF6 interaction, and show how this important biological function can be modulated.  相似文献

New fluorine‐containing, triphenylamine‐based diamine and dicarboxylic acid monomers, namely 3,5‐bis(trifluoromethyl)‐4′,4″‐diaminotriphenylamine and 3,5‐bis(trifluoromethyl)‐4′,4″‐dicarboxytriphenylamine, were synthesized and polymerized with commercially available aromatic dicarboxylic acids and diamines, respectively, leading to two series of aromatic polyamides, 5a–h and 7a–e . Most of the polyamides were amorphous and readily soluble in many common organic solvents and could be solution‐cast into transparent, flexible and strong films with good mechanical properties. The polyamides had useful levels of thermal stability associated with high glass transition temperatures of 273–305 °C and 10% weight‐loss temperatures in excess of 500 °C. Cyclic voltammograms of films of polymers 5a–h on indium–tin oxide‐coated glass substrates exhibited reversible oxidation redox couples with E1/2 around 1.15 V versus Ag/AgCl in tetrabutylammonium perchlorate/acetonitrile solution, accompanied by a color change from colorless neutral state to reddish brown oxidized state. The 7 series polymers displayed a higher oxidation potential and less electrochemical stability as compared to the 5 series analogues. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Photo-assisted one-step electrodeposition has been applied to help in forming smooth and dense CuInSe2 films. The difference in surface morphology and crystalline quality between CuInSe2 films with various photo-assistance has been investigated. In the photo-assisted electrodeposition process, the many kinds of lamps providing maximum light intensity at about 380 to 620 nm were used as light source to be irradiated onto the surface of Mo-coated soda-lime glass substrates. The results suggested effects of photo-assistance including activating surface diffusion and growing high-crystalline quality films with reduced defects during electrodeposition.  相似文献

The incorporation of carbon nanofiber (CNF) into glass fiber (GF) composites is a potential route to extend polymer composite service‐life and enhance mechanical properties. Under nonstatic conditions, only limited information concerning water uptake and contaminant release properties of nanocomposite materials is currently available. Polyester composites containing GF and oxidized CNF were immersed in water for 30 days under nominal pressure at 23 °C, below the polymer's glass‐transition temperature. Water was analyzed and changed every three days to simulate water chemistry regeneration similar to exposures in flowing systems. Composites with oxidized CNF had greater water sorption capacity and leaching rates than CNF‐free composites. The total mass of organic contaminant released correlated with the amount of water sorbed by each composite (r2 = 0.91), although CNF dispersion was found to vary greatly within composites. The greatest and least contaminant release rates were found for the polyester‐CNF and the polyester‐GF composites, respectively. While volatile aromatic resin solvents and stabilizer compounds were detected, their concentrations declined over the 30 day exposure period. We hypothesize that the hydrophilic nature of the oxidized CNF increased the water sorption capacity of the polyester composites. Additional studies are warranted that examine the impact of this phenomenon on composite mechanical and long‐term durability properties. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) may experience chronic microvascular complications such as diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) during their lifetime. In clinical studies, serum uric acid concentration has been found to be associated with DR and DN. The goal of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the increases in serum uric acid level and the severity of DR and albuminuria in Taiwanese patients with type 2 DM. We recorded serum uric acid concentration, the severity of DR, and the severity of albuminuria by calculating urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) in 385 patients with type 2 DM. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, a high uric acid concentration was a risk factor for albuminuria (odds ratio (OR), 1.227; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.015–1.482; p = 0.034) and DR (OR, 1.264; 95% CI = 1.084–1.473; p = 0.003). We also demonstrated that there was a higher concentration of serum uric acid in the patients with more severe albuminuria and DR. In conclusion, an increased serum uric acid level was significantly correlated with the severity of albuminuria and DR in Taiwanese patients with type 2 DM.  相似文献

Several studies have demonstrated that three‐dimensional (3‐D) culture systems influence human embryonic stem cell (hESC) phenotypes and fate choices. However, the effect that these microenvironmental changes have on signaling pathways governing hESC behaviors is not well understood. Here, a 3‐D microwell array was used to investigate differences in activation of developmental pathways between 2‐D and 3‐D cultures of both undifferentiated hESCs and hESCs undergoing initial differentiation in embryoid bodies (EBs). An increased induction into mesoderm and endoderm and differences in expression of genes from multiple signaling pathways that regulate development, including Wnt/β‐catenin, TGF‐β superfamily, Notch, and FGF during EB‐mediated differentiation were observed in 3‐D microwells as compared with the 2‐D substrates. In undifferentiated hESCs, differences in epithelial‐mesenchymal transition phenotypes and the TGFβ/BMP pathway between cultures in 3‐D and 2‐D were also observed. These results illustrate that 3‐D culture influences multiple pathways that may regulate the differentiation trajectories of hESCs. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 60: 1225–1235, 2014  相似文献

Ionic liquids (ILs) with long alkyl substituted groups, including 1-docosanyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (IL-1) and 1-docosanyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (IL-2), were synthesized and used to modify the surface of carbon nanofibers (CNF). The nanocomposite film prepared by solution-blending of ionic liquid modified CNF (i-CNF) and ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) displayed better toughness when compared with pure UHMWPE even at very low concentrations (e.g. 0.4 wt%). The effect of ionic liquids on the elongation-to-break ratio of this nanocomposite system was investigated. The ionic liquid with hexafluorophosphate as the anion was more efficient to increase the toughness of UHMWPE due to the improved compatibility of IL with UHMWPE in the polymer matrix than that of the bromide. The rheological behavior of molten nanocomposites revealed that the storage modulus and the complex viscosity decreased with increasing ionic liquid content in the high frequency region. However, a reverse trend was observed when the frequency was less than 0.05 s−1. In-situ monitoring in the change of crystallinity of the nanocomposite during tensile deformation suggested a mechanism of sliding between UHMWPE crystal regions and the surface of carbon nanofibers.  相似文献
