Visibility of wavelet quantization noise   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12  
The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) decomposes an image into bands that vary in spatial frequency and orientation. It is widely used for image compression, measures of the visibility of DWT quantization errors are required to achieve optimal compression. Uniform quantization of a single band of coefficients results in an artifact that we call DWT uniform quantization noise; it is the sum of a lattice of random amplitude basis functions of the corresponding DWT synthesis filter. We measured visual detection thresholds for samples of DWT uniform quantization noise in Y, Cb, and Cr color channels. The spatial frequency of a wavelet is r2, where r is the display visual resolution in pixels/degree, and λ is the wavelet level. Thresholds increase rapidly with wavelet spatial frequency. Thresholds also increase from Y to Cr to Cb, and with orientation from lowpass to horizontal/vertical to diagonal. We construct a mathematical model for DWT noise detection thresholds that is a function of level, orientation, and display visual resolution. This allows calculation of a “perceptually lossless” quantization matrix for which all errors are in theory below the visual threshold. BACKGROUND: Some patients who undergo cerebral aneurysm surgery require cardiopulmonary bypass and deep hypothermic circulatory arrest. During bypass, these patients often are given large doses of a supplemental anesthetic agent in the hope that additional cerebral protection will be provided. Pharmacologic brain protection, however, has been associated with undesirable side effects. These side effects were evaluated in patients who received large doses of propofol. METHODS: Thirteen neurosurgical patients underwent cardiopulmonary bypass and deep hypothermic circulatory arrest to facilitate clip application to a giant or otherwise high-risk cerebral aneurysm. Electroencephalographic burst suppression was established before bypass with an infusion of propofol, and the infusion was continued until the end of surgery. Hemodynamic and echocardiographic measurements were made before and during the prebypass propofol infusion and again after bypass. Emergence time also was determined. RESULTS: Prebypass propofol at 243 +/- 57 micrograms.kg-1.min-1 decreased vascular resistance from 34 +/- 8 to 27 +/- 8 units without changing heart rate, arterial or filling pressures, cardiac index, stroke volume, or ejection fraction. Propofol blood concentration was 8 +/- 2 micrograms/ml. Myocardial wall motion appeared hyperdynamic at the end of cardiopulmonary bypass, and all patients were weaned therefrom without inotropic support. After bypass, vascular resistance decreased further, and cardiovascular performance was improved compared to baseline values. Nine of the 13 patients emerged from anesthesia and were able to follow commands at 3.1 +/- 1.4 h. Three others had strokes and a fourth had cerebral swelling. CONCLUSIONS: Propofol infused at a rate sufficient to suppress the electroencephalogram does not depress the heart or excessively prolong emergence from anesthesia after cardiopulmonary bypass and deep hypothermic circulatory arrest.  相似文献

Septic shock induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) triggering of cytokine production from monocytes/macrophages is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The major monocyte/macrophage LPS receptor is the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored glycoprotein CD14. Here we demonstrate that CD14 coimmunoprecipitates with Gi/Go heterotrimeric G proteins. Furthermore, we demonstrate that heterotrimeric G proteins specifically regulate CD14-mediated, LPS-induced mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation and cytokine production in normal human monocytes and cultured cells. We report here that a G protein binding peptide protects rats from LPS-induced mortality, suggesting a functional linkage between a GPI-anchored receptor and the intracellular signaling molecules with which it is physically associated.  相似文献

Theoretical studies have indicated that sufficient fractions of O/sub 2/(/sup 1//spl Delta/) may be produced in an electrical discharge that will permit lasing of an electric discharge oxygen-iodine laser (ElectriCOIL) system. Results of those studies along with more recent experimental results show that electric excitation is a very complicated process that must be investigated with advanced diagnostics along with modeling to better understand this highly complex system. A kinetic package appropriate for the ElectriCOIL system is presented and implemented in the detailed electrodynamic GlobalKin model and the Blaze II chemical laser modeling code. A parametric study with the Blaze II model establishes that it may be possible to attain positive gain in the ElectriCOIL system, perhaps even with subsonic flow. The Blaze II model is in reasonable agreement with early gain data. Temperature is a critical issue, especially in the subsonic cases, and thus it appears that supersonic flow will be important for the ElectriCOIL system. Simulations of a supersonic ElectriCOIL system indicate that it may be possible to attain reasonable performance levels, even at low yield levels of 20% or less. In addition, pre-dissociation of the iodine is shown to be very important for the supersonic flow situation.  相似文献

This article compares the techniques developed for lean construction with those developed for lean manufacturing. Lean manufacturing and lean construction techniques share many common elements despite the obvious differences in their assembly environments and processes. Manufacturing plants and construction sites are different in many ways that might explain why lean production theories and practices do not fully fit the construction industry. Though many lean construction tools and elements are still in an embryonic state, lean construction techniques are gaining popularity because they can affect the bottom line of projects. Additionally, this paper presents a study of a construction project in which specific lean construction elements were tested. Each technique was evaluated in terms of its impact on the performance of the project. Based on the findings of the study, a new “lean assessment tool” is proposed to quantify the results of lean implementations. The assessment tool evaluates six lean construction elements: last planner, increased visualization, huddle meetings, first-run studies, five S’s, and fail safe for quality. This paper provides a simple and comprehensive approach that is transferable to any construction project.  相似文献

We present a novel approach to generating regional scale aboveground biomass estimates for tree species of the Lake Tahoe Basin using hyperspatial (< 1 m2 ground resolution) remote sensing imagery. Tree crown shadows were identified and delineated as individual polygons. The area of shadowed vegetation for each tree was related to two tree structural parameters, diameter-at-breast height (DBH) and crown area. We found we could detect DBH and crown area with reasonable accuracy (field measured to image derived cross correlation results were 0.67 and 0.77 for DBH and crown area, respectively). Furthermore, the counts of the delineated polygons in a region generated overstory stem densities validated to manually photointerpreted stem densities (photointerpreted vs. image-derived stem densities correlation was 0.87). We demonstrate with accurate classification maps and allometric equations relating DBH or crown area to biomass, that these crown-level parameters can be used to generate regional scale biomass estimates without the signal saturation common to coarse-scale optical and RADAR sensors.  相似文献

Monoclonal antibodies 6C6 and 10D5 raised against the N-terminal of beta-amyloid peptide interfere with the formation of beta-amyloid and trigger reversal to its non-toxic components. The epitopes of these antibodies were localized employing a library composed of filamentous phage displaying random combinatorial hexapeptides. Among 44 positive phage-clones, selected from the library by both antibodies, 40 clones carried the consensus sequence EFRH. These EFRH phage-clones bind specifically mAbs 6C6 or 10D5 with an apparent binding constant of approximately 10(-9) M. The peptide EFRH inhibits binding of mAbs 6C6 or 10D5 to beta-amyloid peptide in affinities identical to those obtained. with the peptides corresponding to positions 1-9, 1-16 and 1-40 of beta-peptide. These findings confirm that the peptide EFRH which is located at positions 3-6 within beta-amyloid peptide represents the sequential epitope of mAbs 6C6 and 10D5.  相似文献

Microporous composite polysulfone/polyurethane hollow-fiber membranes were prepared by using a low reactivity polyurethane prepolymer in the casting solution and precipitating the membrane in a precipitation solution containing a polymerization catalyst. The catalyst was used to promote the polymerization of prepolymer at the membrane/precipitation solution interface causing formation of an interfacial interpenetrating polymer network. As a result, an ultra-thin layer of hydrophilic polysulfone/ polyurethane composite polymer was constituted in situ on the surface of the polysulfone microporous substrate during membrane formation. Membranes with nominal pore sizes ranging from 0.1–0.45 μm were prepared using this technique. The resulting membranes exhibited excellent fluxes and very low protein adsorption characteristics.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine if poor dietary intake can explain the cobalamin-related abnormalities often seen in the elderly. DESIGN: Prospective laboratory survey with a follow-up dietary assessment. SETTING: Social centers for the elderly and an outpatient clinic. SUBJECTS: Ninety-five free-living subjects >60y old with abnormal or suspicious findings in cobalamin-related tests and 78 subjects >60y old with normal results. INTERVENTIONS: Serum cobalamin, methylmalonic acid and homocysteine determinations to assess cobalamin status and a one year food-frequency questionnaire to assess cobalamin intake. RESULTS: Only three of the 173 subjects (1.7%), one of whom had normal cobalamin status, ingested <2 microg cobalamin/d, the Recommended Daily Allowance. Sixty-nine subjects (39.9%) ingested <6 microg/d, but they did not have more abnormal serum cobalamin or metabolite values than those ingesting >6 microg. Ordering all subjects by quintiles according to cobalamin intake revealed no significant trends or differences in any of the serum values either. Moreover, arranging subjects by results of tests of cobalamin status showed that the subjects with abnormal cobalamin status did not differ in cobalamin intake from those with normal cobalamin status, although they did differ in use of supplements. Finally, cobalamin intake, with or without supplements, did not correlate with serum cobalamin or metabolite levels. The absence of any association between cobalamin status and intake contrasts sharply with the significant correlation between folate intake and folate status (P = 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: The high frequency of mildly abnormal cobalamin status in the elderly cannot be attributed to poor intake of cobalamin. Nondietary explanations, such as malabsorption and other phenomena, must always be sought to explain mild cobalamin deficiency in the elderly.  相似文献
