This paper investigates strategies for prolonging the system lifetime for wireless video sensor networks, by adopting a mobile sink and solar-powered video sensors. Issues of tracking moving objects in wireless video sensor networks are studied, and the effectiveness of adopting a mobile sink is evaluated. This paper applies a power-rate-distortion analysis framework, which provides a theoretical fundamental to quantify various properties of wireless video sensor networks. The performance of wireless video sensor networks is evaluated with a mobile sink versus a static sink, under different cluster sizes and number of sensors. Comparisons of network lifetime, tracking error, video distortion, are also covered in this paper. In addition, this paper also evaluates the performance of solar-powered video sensors under an unequal layered clustering topology.  相似文献

This paper describes a systematic procedure for constructing a Boolean reliability model from plant schematics, and a technique for determining all sets of single and double component failures which will cause system failure. This technique, called digraph matrix analysis, uses a fault graph instead of the more traditional fault tree. Digraph matrix analysis was recently applied to the system interaction analysis of a very large safety system (over ten thousand components) and is being used to determine security system vulnerabilities.  相似文献

Magnetic metallo-organic thin films have been prepared at different growth temperatures to characterize the influence of structural properties on the magnetic characteristics. A quantitative analysis of the grain size shows that the growth temperature increases the elliptical grain size considerably. Long grains of planar iron phthalocyanine form quasi one-dimensional iron chains, which are embedded in a carbon matrix along the other two dimensions. The chains are narrowly spaced (1.3 nm) and run parallel to the substrate. Temperature-dependent magnetization curves depend on the structural details of the iron chains. These magnetic properties are tuned with deposition parameters.  相似文献

The question of whether crash injury severity should be modeled using an ordinal response model or a non-ordered (multinomial) response model is persistent in traffic safety engineering. This paper proposes the use of the partial proportional odds (PPO) model as a statistical modeling technique that both bridges the gap between ordered and non-ordered response modeling, and avoids violating the key assumptions in the behavior of crash severity inherent in these two alternatives. The partial proportional odds model is a type of logistic regression that allows certain individual predictor variables to ignore the proportional odds assumption which normally forces predictor variables to affect each level of the response variable with the same magnitude, while other predictor variables retain this proportional odds assumption. This research looks at the effectiveness of this PPO technique in predicting vehicular crash severities on Connecticut state roads using data from 1995 to 2009. The PPO model is compared to ordinal and multinomial response models on the basis of adequacy of model fit, significance of covariates, and out-of-sample prediction accuracy. The results of this study show that the PPO model has adequate fit and performs best overall in terms of covariate significance and holdout prediction accuracy. Combined with the ability to accurately represent the theoretical process of crash injury severity prediction, this makes the PPO technique a favorable approach for crash injury severity modeling by adequately modeling and predicting the ordinal nature of the crash severity process and addressing the non-proportional contributions of some covariates.  相似文献

GC/MS was used to identify compounds of essential oils from seven Ocimum taxa (O. americanum L., O. basilicum L., O. campechianum Mill., O. x citriodorum Vis., O. kilimandscharicum Baker ex Gürke and three botanical varieties and cultivars of Ocimum basilicum L.: ‘Genovese’, var. difforme and var. purpurascens). Preliminary screening of their antibacterial activity was done against a number of common pathogens (Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococus faecium, Escherichia coli 0157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria ivanovii, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis) using the filter paper disc agar diffusion technique, while further analyses were done by modification of the disc diffusion method. A broad variation in the antibacterial properties of investigated essential oils was observed. E. coli 0157:H7 was inhibited by O. basilicum ‘Genovese’ essential oil, while Ocimum americanum and Ocimum x citriodorum essential oils were the most effective against Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, P. vulgaris, S. aureus and S. epidermis.  相似文献

This article reports an extraction–purification of napins from an industrial rapeseed meal and the assessment of their antimicrobial activity against Fusarium langsethiae. The best extraction conditions are observed at pH 2, 12% (w/w) of rapeseed meal after 15 min of extraction in water at room temperature. Under these conditions the extraction is highly selective, allowing a simple purification process (ammonium sulfate precipitation followed by desalting size exclusion chromatography) to get purified napins. These napins possessed significant anti-Fusarium activity (IC50 = 70 μM) and a compact secondary structure rich in α-helix, which may explain this bioactivity.  相似文献

In vitro activity of nine cyanobacterial and ten microalgal newly isolated or culture collection strains against eight significant food‐borne pathogens has been evaluated and compared. Water extracts and culture liquids of Gloeocapsa sp. and Synechocystis sp. demonstrated the widest spectrum of activity with minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranging from 1.56 to 12.5 mg mL?1. Culture liquid of Anabaena sp. had the highest activity (MIC = 0.39 mg mL?1) but only to Gram‐positive bacteria. Ethanol extracts and fatty acids from all cyanobacteria and microalgae were active against Streptococcus pyogenes and/or Staphylococcus aureus. The fatty acids of Synechocystis sp. inhibited the growth of Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans (MIC values of 2.5–1.25 mg mL?1, respectively). Exopolysaccharides (EPS) of Gloeocapsa sp. were the sample that exhibited activity against all test pathogens with lowest MIC values (0.125–1 mg mL?1). High activity with a narrower range of susceptible targets demonstrated the exopolysaccharides of Synechocystis sp. and Rhodella reticulata. Antimicrobial activity was proven for phycobiliproteins isolated from Synechocystis sp., Arthrospira fusiformis, Porphyridium aerugineum and Porphyridium cruentum, respectively. In conclusion Gloeocapsa sp. and Synechocystis sp. and especially their exopolysaccharides showed the most promising potential against the examined food pathogens.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: There has been concern about the increase of antimicrobial resistant bacteria and protection of animal and public health, along with food safety. In the present study, we evaluate the incidence of antimicrobial resistance among 192 strains of Escherichia coli isolated from faecal samples of healthy food‐producing animals at slaughter in Portugal. RESULTS: Ninety‐seven % of the pig isolates, 74% from sheep and 55% from cattle were resistant to one or more antimicrobial agents, with the resistances to ampicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline and trimethoprim–sulfamethoxazole the most common phenotype detected. Genes encoding resistance to antimicrobial agents were detected in most of the resistant isolates. Ninety‐three % of the resistant isolates were included in the A or B1 phylogenetic groups, and the virulence gene fimA (alone or in association with papC or aer genes) was detected in 137 of the resistant isolates. Five isolates from pigs belonging to phylogroup B2 and D were resistant to five different antimicrobial agents. CONCLUSION: Our data shows a high percentage of antibiotic resistance in E. coli isolates from food animals, and raises important questions in the potential impact of antibiotic use in animals and the possible transmission of resistant bacteria to humans through the food chain. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
