BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the growth‐inhibiting efficacy of Drosera intermedia extracts (water, methanol and n‐hexane) against four food spoilage yeasts and five filamentous fungi strains responsible for food deterioration and associated with mycotoxin production, in order to identify potential antimycotic agents. RESULTS: The n‐hexane extract showed a broad activity spectrum against all tested microorganisms, followed, in activity, by the methanol and water extracts. The major component of the n‐hexane extract was purified using a solid‐phase extraction column and identified as plumbagin. Results show that high‐purity plumbagin can be produced from D. intermedia cultures following a simple and effective isolation procedure. A sample of purified plumbagin was tested against the same panel of microorganisms and high growth‐inhibiting capacity was observed. Minimum inhibitory concentrations less than 2 µg mL?1 were obtained against the filamentous fungi. In the case of the species Aspergillus fumigatus, A. niger and A. flavus , activities comparable to miconazole were obtained. CONCLUSION: The results obtained provided evidence of the antimycotic activity of plumbagin, suggesting that D. intermedia could be the source of an interesting compound for the food industry as an alternative to preservatives. Vitamin A deficiency is a public health issue in developing countries and promoting dietary carotenoids as precursors is a promising strategy. However, carotenoids present in numerous fruits and vegetables are unstable and poorly bioaccessible. This study evaluated these two parameters during in vitro digestion of carotenoids and retinoids from carrot juice, raw and cooked spinach, micronutrient-fortified flour and standards without food matrix. Standards were unstable whereas vitamin A from fortified flour and native food carotenoids were generally better protected by the food matrix (30–100% remaining versus 7–30% for standards). Hydrothermal cooking did not influence spinach carotenoid digestive stability but decreased their contents, phenomenon compensated by a significantly better micellarisation from 15-fold for β-carotene to 72-fold for lutein. Finally, carrot juice provided the greatest amount of bioaccessible provitamin A with 1850 μg/100 g dry matter (DM) versus 790 and 80 μg/100 g DM in cooked and raw spinach, respectively.  相似文献

Strawberries are a good source of micronutrients, especially antioxidant phenolics. More information is needed to better exploit the health-promoting effect of such fruits. Several studies focused on the effects of genotype, cultural practices, and seasonal variation on the antioxidant potential of strawberries, but often yielding contradictory results and/or focusing on only 1 source of variability. In the present study, we showed that total phenolic compounds, ascorbic acid, and antioxidant capacity strongly differed between genotypes of strawberry. The precise results revealed the importance of genetic background for the antioxidant capacity and for the content of total phenolics (with up to 3.3-fold variations). Other parameters may also influence the antioxidant capacity in strawberry such as harvest time, culture conditions, and environmental factors. Moreover, in this study, the harvesting time (at the same ripening stage) appeared to be very important, more important than genotype. Variations of the antioxidant capacity of up to 4.1-folds were observed following the harvesting time of "Elsanta" cultivar. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: This article compares the antioxidant capacity and the content in ascorbic acid and phenolic compounds of strawberries of different varieties and of fruits harvested from April to December at the same ripening stage. The importance of strawberry antioxidant capacity resides in its benefits for human health.  相似文献

We present in this article a way to produce test suites applied to the POSIX mini-challenge based on a behavioral model of a file system manager written in UML/OCL. We illustrate the limitations of a fully automated test generation approach, which justifies the use of test scenarios as a complement to a functional testing approach. Scenarios are expressed through regular expressions describing sequences of operations, possibly punctuated by intermediate states that have to be reached by the execution of the model. Scenarios are unfolded into extended sequences of operations that are played on the model using symbolic animation techniques. We experimented our approach by testing the conformance of two different file systems w.r.t. the POSIX standard: a recent Linux distribution and a customized Java implementation of POSIX used to evaluate the relevance of our approach and its complementarity with a structural test generation approach.  相似文献

The limit of penetration of a given coal-tar pitch into two cokes during mixing of the coke and liquid tar has been studied. It was shown that tar penetration is limited by compression of gas occluded in pores. Mercury porosimetry of cokes and pyrolysed coke-tar mixtures as well as micrographs of cokes impregnated with tar allow one to estimate the limiting pore diameter of tar penetration into coke at ca. 6 μm for the system considered.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between statin use along with serum cholesterol levels and prostate cancer (PCa) detection and aggressiveness. Statin users of three years or more and serum cholesterol levels (SC) were assessed in 2408 men scheduled for prostate biopsy. SC was classified as normal (NSC: <200 mg/dL) or high (HSC: >200 mg/dL). High-grade PCa (HGPCa) was considered if the Gleason score was greater than 7. Statin users comprised 30.9% of those studied. The PCa detection rate was 31.2% of men on statins and 37% of non-statin users (p < 0.006). The PCa detection rate was 26.3% in men with NSC and 40.6% in those with HSC (p < 0.001). In the subset of NSC men, the PCa rate was 26.5% for statin users and 26.2% for non-users (p = 0.939), while in men with HSC, the PCa rate was 36.4% for statin users and 42.0% for non-statin users (p = 0.063). The HGPCa rate was 41.8% for statin users and 32.5% for non-users (p = 0.012). NSC men had a 53.8% rate of HGPCa, while the rate was only 27.6% in HSC men (p < 0.001). NSC men on statins had an HGPCa rate of 70.2%, while non-statin users had a rate of 41.2% (p < 0.001). The HGPCa rate for HSC men on statins was 18.8%, while the rate was 30.0% (p = 0.011) for non-users. Logistic regression analysis suggested that serum cholesterol levels could serve as an independent predictor of PCa risk, OR 1.87 (95% CI 1.56–2.24) and HGPCa risk, OR 0.31 (95% CI 0.23–0.44), while statin usage could not. Statin treatment may prevent PCa detection through serum cholesterol-mediated mechanisms. A disturbing increase in the HGPCa rate was observed in statin users who normalized their serum cholesterol.  相似文献

Wood sawdust gasification experiments were performed in a steam fluidized bed at 800 °C between 2 and 10 bar. An evolution of gas yields with time was measured during the tests, and especially an increase of hydrogen and carbon dioxide yields. This test duration effect was ascribed to char build-up in the bed. As tests proceed, the contribution of char steam gasification to gas yield increases, and the catalytic effect of char on hydrocarbons and tar conversion and on water-gas shift reaction is enhanced.As total pressure increases from 2 to 10 bar, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane yields increase by 16%, 53% and 38% respectively, whereas carbon monoxide yield decreases by 33%. The changes in gaseous yields with pressure can be partly explained by the influence of pressure on gas phase reactions (acceleration of water-gas shift kinetics and change in hydrocarbon reactions). The increase of methane yield with pressure is rather suggested to be linked to a change in secondary pyrolysis reactions scheme under high pressure.  相似文献

The effects of Maillard reaction products (MRPs), synthesized from equimolar glucose or fructose with l-cysteine (1 mol l−1) aqueous model mixtures, by modulating pH and temperature of heating, according to a two-factor and five-level experimental design, were investigated on polyphenoloxidase (PPO) activity from apple. Final pH and absorbance measurements at 350 nm were also selected as indicators of the Maillard reaction development and checked. In general, inhibitory potency (IP) of the mixtures increased with the increase in temperature (80-120°C) and the decrease in pH (pH 2.0-12.0) of the reaction medium. A linear relationship between the IP and heating time (0-48 h) or Abs.350 nm (0-70 AU) was demonstrated for glucose/cysteine system heated from 80°C to 120°C. Polarographic and spectrophotometric data were used to calculate kinetic constants and activation energy (Ea) values of inhibitory MRPs formation versus PPO activity and of those compounds absorbing at 350 nm. Ea values for these reactions were close, being 191 and 124 kJ mol−1, respectively. The experimental design allowed to conclude that linear effects of both factors as well as a quadratic effect of pH were significant, leading to optimum conditions for the production of glucose-derived MRPs inhibitors. In most cases, glucose produced MRPs with higher IP compared to counterpart fructose-cysteine MRPs.  相似文献

Two iodonium salts based on a coumarin chromophore are investigated for polymerization upon light emitting diode irradiations (LEDs). They work as one‐component photoinitiators. They initiate the cationic polymerization of epoxides (under air) and vinylethers (laminate) upon exposure to violet LEDs (385 and 405 nm). Excellent polymerization profiles are recorded. Their efficiency is quite similar to that of a ferrocenium salt. Interpenetrating polymer networks can also be obtained through a concomitant cationic/radical photopolymerization of an epoxy/acrylate blend monomer. The light absorption properties of these new salts as well as the involved photochemical mechanisms are investigated for the first time through electron spin resonance, laser flash photolysis, steady state photolysis experiments.
