The implementation of analog adaptive median filters for image processing is discussed. The adaptive median filter is based on transconductance comparators, whose saturation current is adapted to act as a local weight operator. Transistor level simulations have shown excellent results in removing incidence noise. A 249 × 209 pixel image, corrupted with 35% salt and pepper noise, is used to test the adaptive median filter. All the simulations were made using BSIM3's level 49 model and 1.2 m MOSIS technology parameters.  相似文献

In ammonia–water absorption refrigeration systems a purification process to reduce the water content in the vapour leaving the generator is required. During this process the water content in the vapour must be reduced to a minimum, otherwise it tends to accumulate in the evaporator and strongly deteriorates the efficiency of the system. The vapour purification can be carried out by partial condensation, by establishing a liquid–vapour counter flow or by combining both methods. In systems with partial condensation, the distillation column can be composed of one or more rectifiers using different cooling mediums, and the rectifying and stripping sections. In complete condensation systems only the rectifying and stripping sections can be used. Therefore different distillation column arrangements should be considered. This paper presents a study of several distillation column configurations for single stage ammonia–water absorption refrigeration systems with partial and complete condensation. In order to evaluate and compare the different configurations, a parameter that indicates the ratio of the ammonia vapour concentration increase in each part of the column to the total ammonia purification has been defined. The analysis has been based on the system COP. Finally the efficiency in each part of the column has been calculated to estimate its design requirements.  相似文献

In this overview, we consider epilepsies as dynamical diseases of brain systems since they are manifestations of the property of neuronal networks to display multistable dynamics. To illustrate this concept we may assume that at least two states of the epileptic brain are possible: the interictal state characterized by a normal, apparently random, steady-state electroencephalography (EEG) ongoing activity, and the ictal state, that is characterized by paroxysmal occurrence of synchronous oscillations and is generally called, in neurology, a seizure. The transition between these two states can either occur: 1) as a continuous sequence of phases, like in some cases of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE); or 2) as a sudden leap, like in most cases of absence seizures. In the mathematical terminology of nonlinear systems, we can say that in the first case the system's attractor gradually deforms from an interictal to an ictal attractor. The causes for such a deformation can be either endogenous or external. In this type of ictal transition, the seizure possibly may be anticipated in its early, preclinical phases. In the second case, where a sharp critical transition takes place, we can assume that the system has at least two simultaneous interictal and ictal attractors all the time. To which attractor the trajectories converge, depends on the initial conditions and the system's parameters. An essential question in this scenario is how the transition between the normal ongoing and the seizure activity takes place. Such a transition can occur either due to the influence of external or endogenous factors or due to a random perturbation and, thus, it will be unpredictable. These dynamical changes may not be detectable from the analysis of the ongoing EEG, but they may be observable only by measuring the system's response to externally administered stimuli. In the special cases of reflex epilepsy, the leap between the normal ongoing attractor and the ictal attractor is caused by a well-defined external perturbation. Examples from these different scenarios are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Careful selection of the biological tissue to be used in cardiac bioprostheses and a thorough knowledge of its mechanical behavior, facilitating both the prediction of this behavior and the interactions between the tissue and the other materials employed, is the best approach to designing a durable implant. For this purpose, a study involving uniaxial tensile testing of calf pericardium was carried out. Two sets of three contiguous strips of tissue were obtained from each pericardial membrane, to perform a total of 144 trials. Two samples were sewn with one of four commercially available suture materials: Gore-Tex, nylon, Prolene and silk. In each set of three samples, the center strip remained intact and unsutured to serve as a control, while the left-hand strip was sutured at a 45° angle with respect to the longitudinal axis and the right-hand strip was sewn at a 90° angle. All the samples were tested until rupture. The results demonstrated a significant loss of mean load (p<0.01) in the sutured samples at rupture. The angle of the suture had no influence on these results, although the stress/strain curves showed that, as the tensile stress increased, the mechanical behaviors were less uniform. The rupture of the collagen fibers could explain this phenomenon. The pericardium sutured with Gore-Tex presented a greater strain, or deformation (elongation), at lower levels of stress, regardless of the angle of the suture. The tissue selection criteria, based on the use of paired samples, enabled a correct prediction of the mechanical behavior of the tissue, with excellent correlation coefficients (>0.98) and a high degree of homogeneity in the results.  相似文献

A planar photonic crystal that allows inherently gap-guided single-mode waveguides is proposed and discussed. This novel structure consists of a two-dimensional lattice of silicon rods embedded on a thin silica slab sandwiched between two silica claddings whose refractive indices are slightly lower than the index of the silica core. The physical parameters of the structure, i.e., rod radius and core thickness, are optimized to maximize the bandgap width for odd modes. Lossless guided modes inside the bandgap and below the claddings' light cone are obtained by reducing the radius of a row of rods. The waveguide bandwidth can be increased by inserting a thin silicon dielectric waveguide instead of the row of rods. The proposed approach may overcome many of the common drawbacks in conventional holes-on-dielectric planar photonic crystal waveguides.  相似文献

Objectives: To examine whether body and sexual esteem mediated the associations between sexual satisfaction, perceived disability severity, and social perceptions of the disability and interpersonal competencies. Research Method/Design: Web-based survey with 326 adults with a range of physical disabilities. Main Outcome Measures: Perceived interpersonal competence in initiating relationships and being assertive in negative situations. Results: For men, sexual satisfaction, social perceptions of the disability, and perceived severity of the disability significantly predicted competence with relationship initiation. Sexual satisfaction and social perceptions of the disability predicted competence with negative assertion. For women, social perceptions of the disability predicted both interpersonal competencies, and sexual satisfaction predicted competence with negative assertion. Aspects of body esteem mediated the relations between the predictor variables and the interpersonal competencies. Conclusions: Findings indicate the importance of perceived attractiveness to others in mediating the negative relations between impact of the disability and interpersonal competencies. Waveguide structures are very popular in the microwave power industry due to their power handling capabilities. Modal expansion of the waveguide fields and application of the circuit theory allow for the division of a complex device into several simpler sections which can be analyzed separately with the best suited method. The modal techniques can be divided into two groups--those which analyze junctions or discontinuities and those which examine propagation characteristics. In this paper, a review of modal techniques for high power applications is given. Modal expansion of the fields in the waveguides is then performed and applied to modeling of k-furcated waveguides. The modal analysis based on the Coupled Mode Method is described for the waveguides partially filled with isotropic materials. A hybrid modal analysis coupled with Finite Element Method suitable for more complex waveguide structures is also described. Computational results obtained for some real-life microwave devices are presented. Excellent agreement was found when comparing the results with those generated with a commercial FDTD simulator demonstrates the validity and reliability of the proposed method.  相似文献

We study pollution's ambient problems by using the optimal control theory applied to partial differential equations. We consider the problem to find the optimal way to eliminate pollution in the time, such that the concentration is close to a standard level which does not affect the ecological equilibrium when the source is pointwise. We consider a quadratic cost functional and we prove the existence and uniqueness of optimal control. We find a characterisation which makes possible the computing of optimal control. Additionally, we consider the problem moving the pointwise source. So, we define a function j(b) that associates to any point b ∈ Ω the optimal cost functional applied to the optimal control. We show that j is differentiable, provided that the controls are taken in a convenient subset of admissible functions satisfying the cone properties. We also find the point in Ω, for which the cost functional is minimum.  相似文献
