The main purpose of this technical note is to present a relationship between J-integral and averaged strain-energy density () in U-notches under Mode I loading for brittle or quasi-brittle materials. In this work, control volume includes the rectilinear edge of the notch in addition to semi-circular arc of the notch root. A dimensionless function (f) between J and has been presented in this paper. Finite element analysis has been used for verification. Evaluation different fractions of the spaces in a fried product that are occupied by air, moisture, or fat provides useful information for researcher and manufacturer to better understand the mechanism of oil absorption during frying. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of batter formulations and pre-drying on the fraction of inter-particle spaces in batter coating. Pre-drying decreased the amount of fat to 2.97 g/100 g compared to non-pre-dried samples which showed 4.37 g/100 g fat content. Higher rice flour content in batter significantly increased the fraction of inter-particle spaces occupied by air (SOA), and decreased the fraction of spaces occupied by moisture (SOM) and fat (SOF). Longer pre-drying times showed greater fraction of spaces occupied by air, and smaller fraction of spaces occupied by moisture and fat. SOA, SOM, and SOF of the batter systems ranged from 2.2% to 46.03%, 2.55 to 47.07%, and 0.35% to 11.11%, respectively. Using higher amount of wheat flour in batter and longer pre-drying time showed to significantly decrease fat uptake during frying. 相似文献

In this study, all-green biocomposites based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/rice straw (RS) as an agricultural waste were prepared, and the physical, structural, and mechanical properties of these biocomposites were enhanced by alkali-pulping of RS and chemical grafting of PLA onto the lignocellulosic fiber. The reactive compatibilizers of maleic anhydride grafted PLA (PLA-g-MA) were obtained through a reactive extrusion process at different processing conditions. The probable chemical reactions between the functional groups of PLA-g-MA with hydroxyl groups of RS pulp as well as the end groups of PLA chains can effectively improve the interfacial adhesion between the filler and matrix. However, the findings confirm the great importance of PLA-g-MA chemical structure in controlling the biocomposite performance. By choosing proper processing conditions for preparing PLA-g-MA and incorporating this compatibilizer into the PLA/treated RS biocomposite, Young modulus, tensile strength, impact strength, and tensile toughness of the PLA/RS biocomposite increased by 101%, 156%, 96%, and 327%, respectively. 相似文献

Reports an error in the original article by D. P. Gold et al (Psychology & Aging, 1995 [Jun], Vol 10[2], 294–303. On page 300, Figure 2, an extra path was inadvertently included in the LISREL program analyzing the data. The correct model is presented. This study examined the effects of abilities as a young adult, an engaged lifestyle, personality, age, and health on continuity and change in intellectual abilities from early to late adulthood. A battery of measures, including a verbal and nonverbal intelligence (INT) test, was given to 326 Canadian army veterans. Archival data provided World War Two enlistment scores on the same INT test for this sample. Results indicated relative stability of intellectual scores across 40 years, with increases in vocabulary and decreases in arithmetic, verbal analogies, and nonverbal skills. Young adult INT was the most important determinant of older adult performance. Predictors for verbal INT were consistent with an engagement model of intellectual maintenance but also indicated the importance of introversion–extraversion and age. Cyclic behavior of materials is complex and difficult to model. A combination of hardening rules in classical plasticity is one possibility for modeling this complex material behavior. Neural network (NN) constitutive models have been shown in the past to have the capability of modeling complex material behavior directly from the results of material tests. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for NN‐based modeling of the cyclic behavior of materials. The proposed NN material model uses new internal variables that facilitate the learning of the hysteretic behavior of materials. The same approach can also be used in modeling of the hysteretic behavior of structural systems or structural components under cyclic loadings. The proposed model is shown to be superior to the earlier versions of NN material models. Although the earlier versions of the NN material models were effective in capturing the multi‐axial material behavior, they were only tested under cyclic uni‐axial state of stress. The proposed NN material model is capable of learning the hysteretic behavior of materials under even non‐uniform stress state in multi‐dimensional stress space. In recent years, several studies have reported the beneficial effects of antioxidant peptides in delaying oxidation reactions. Thus, a growing number of food proteins have been investigated as suitable sources for obtaining these antioxidant peptides. In this study, some of the most critical developments in the discovery of peptidic antioxidants are discussed. Initially, the primary methods to release, purify, and identify these antioxidant peptides from various food-derived sources are reviewed. Then, computer-based screening methods of the available peptides are summarized, and methods to interpret their structure–activity relationship are illustrated. Finally, approaches to the large-scale production of these bioactive peptides are described. In addition, the applications of these antioxidants in food systems are discussed, and gaps, future challenges, and opportunities in this field are highlighted. In conclusion, various food items can be considered promising sources to obtain these novel antioxidant peptides, which present various opportunities for food applications in addition to health promotion. The lack of in-depth data on the link between the structure and activity of these antioxidants, which is critical for the prediction of possible bioactive amino acid sequences and their potency in food systems and in vivo conditions (rather than in vitro systems), requires further attention. Consequently, future collaborative research activities between the industry and academia are required to realize the commercialization objectives of these novel antioxidant peptides. 相似文献

Crystal density and enthalpy of formation of the condensed phase of energetic compounds are two important input parameters for the performance prediction in several computer codes for rapid hazard assessment of energetic materials. A novel easy‐to‐handle user‐friendly computer code in Visual Basic is introduced to predict these parameters for various energetic compounds including nitroaliphatics, nitrate esters, nitramines, polynitroarenes, and polynitroheteroarenes. The calculated values can be used as inputs for other thermochemical/hydrodynamic computer codes. This computer code is also able to calculate the activation energies of thermal decomposition of polynitroarenes and nitramines in condensed state. The number of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen atoms and specification of some molecular fragments are input parameters for this code without using any experimental data. The new algorithms on the base of easy‐to‐get input parameters are tested for some new energetic compounds, which provide more reliable results as compared to the best available methods. 相似文献

A power-aware transceiver for half-duplex bidirectional chip-to-chip optical interconnects has been designed and fabricated in a 0.13 μm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The transceiver can detect the presence and absence of received signals and saves 55% power in Rx enabled mode and 45% in Tx enabled mode. The chip occupies an area of 1.034 mm2 and achieves a 3-dB bandwidth of 6 GHz and 7 GHz in Tx and Rx modes, respectively. The disabled outputs for the Tx and Rx modes are isolated with 180 dB and 139 dB, respectively, from the enabled outputs. Clear eye diagrams are obtained at 4.25 Gbps for both the Tx and Rx modes. 相似文献

Dissimilar friction stir welding between AZ31-O Mg and 6061-T6 Al alloys was investigated. 3 mm thick plates of aluminum and magnesium were used. Friction stir welding operations were performed at different rotation and travel speeds. The rotation speeds varied from 600 to 1400 r/min, and the travel speed varied from 20 to 60 mm/min. Defect-free weld was obtained with a rotation speed of 1000 r/min and travel speed of 40 mm/min. Metallographic studies showed that the grain size in the stir zone is much finer than that in the base metals. Complex flow pattern was formed in the stir zone. Microhardness measurement revealed an uneven distribution in the stir zone. Tensile test results indicated that the tensile strength of the welded specimen is about 76% of AZ31 Mg alloy and 60% of the 6061 Al alloy in tensile strength. SEM fracture surface image of the welded specimen indicated that the welded specimen failed through brittle-mode fracture. 相似文献
