Flame spray pyrolysis of a polymeric precursor is used to prepare ultrafine powders that, when sintered, convert to essentially pure phase lithium-doped sodium β"-alumina. The precursor Na1.67 Al10.67 Li0.33 [N(CH2CH2O)3]10.67-[OCH2CH2O]·x(HOCH2CH2OH) has been synthesized from stoichiometric amounts of metal hydroxides and tri-ethanolamine (N(CH2CH2OH)3, TEA) in excess ethylene glycol. The precursor is dissolved in ethanol, and an atom-ized spray of the solution is combusted in a specially con-structed flame spray apparatus. Combustion occurs at ∼2000°C, followed by immediate quenching. This proce-dure provides for a measure of kinetic control over the process. The resulting nanopowder particles are 50–150 nm in diameter and exhibit powder X-ray diffractometry pat-terns similar to β"-alumina. Heating the nanopowder at 30°C/min to 1200°C with a 1 hisotherm converts it to pure β"-alumina. In preliminary sintering studies, green powder compacts (∼65% theoretical density) sintered at 1600°C for 12 min densify to 3.0 ± 0.1 g/cm 3 (∼92% theoretical density) with minimal loss of Na2O. This procedure offers several processing and cost advantages over conventional β"-alumina syntheses.  相似文献

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common adult neural malignancy and the deadliest. The standard of care is optimal, safe, cytoreductive surgery followed by combined radiation therapy and alkylating chemotherapy with temozolomide. Recurrence is common and therapeutic options in the recurrent setting are limited. The dismal prognosis of GBM has led to novel treatments being a serious roadblock in the field, with most new treatments failing to show efficacy. Targeted therapies have shown some success in many cancers, but GBM remains one of the most difficult to treat, especially in recurrence. New chemotherapeutic directions need to be explored, possibly expanding the targeted chemotherapy spectrum in previously unforeseen ways. In this perspective paper, we will explain why AVIL, an actin-binding protein recently found to be overexpressed in GBM and a driving force for GBM, could prove versatile in the fight against cancer. By looking at AVIL and its potential to regulate FOXM1 and LIN28B, we will be able to highlight a way to improve outcomes for GBM patients who normally have very little hope.  相似文献

Microring resonators side coupled to signal waveguides provide compact, narrow band, and large free spectral range optical channel dropping filters. Higher order filters with improved passband characteristics and larger out-of-band signal rejection are realized through the coupling of multiple rings. The analysis of these devices is approached by the novel method of coupling of modes in time. The response of filters comprised of an arbitrarily large dumber of resonators may be written down by inspection, as a continued fraction. This approach simplifies both the analysis and filter synthesis aspects of these devices  相似文献

The BOAR emulation system is targeted to hardware/software (HW/SW) codevelopment of advanced embedded DSP and telecom systems. The challenge of the BOAR system is efficient customization of programmable hardware, and dedicated partitioning routine to target applications and structures, which allows quite high overall system performance. The system allows multiple configurations for communication between processors and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) making the BOAR system an efficient tool for real-time HW/SW coverification. The reprogrammable hardware of the emulation tool is based on four Xilinx 4000-series devices, two Texas TMS320C50 signal processors and one Motorola MC68302 microcontroller. With current devices the BOAR hardware provides approximately 40–70 kgates of logic capacity in DSP applications. The emulation capacity can be expanded by connecting several similar boards in chain. The system has also a versatile internal reprogrammable test environment for test bench development, performance evaluations and design debugging. The logic development environment is based on the Synopsys synthesis tools and an automatic design management software, which performs resource mapping and performance-driven design partitioning between FPGAs. The emulation hardware is currently connected to logic and software development environments via an RS-232C bus. The BOAR emulation system has been found a very efficient platform for real-life prototyping of different types of DSP algorithms and systems, and validating correct functionality of a VHDL macro library.  相似文献

Nanometre-sized particles of transition (t)-aluminas are important for the fabrication of high-quality alumina ceramics. Multiple tons are produced each year using a variety of gas-phase processes. The nanoparticles produced by these methods consist mainly of the undesired delta phase with some gamma- and theta-Al(2)O(3). Nano-t-aluminas should provide access to dense nano/submicrometre-grained alpha-Al(2)O(3) shapes offering significant advantages over micrometre-grained shapes. Unfortunately, polymorphism coupled with the high activation energy for nucleating alpha-Al(2)O(3) greatly impedes efforts to process dense alpha-Al(2)O(3) with controlled grain sizes, especially for submicrometre materials. Typically alpha-Al(2)O(3) nucleation within t-aluminas is sporadic rather than uniform, leading to exaggerated grain growth and vermicular microstructures without full densification (5). Thus, production of quantities of nano-alpha-Al(2)O(3) from multiple nano-t-aluminas for seeding or direct processing of alpha-Al(2)O(3) monoliths could greatly change how alpha-Al(2)O(3) components are processed. We report here that liquid-feed flame spray pyrolysis of nano-t-aluminas converts them to dispersible 30-80 nm alpha-Al(2)O(3) powders (50-85% phase transformed). Surprisingly, the powder surfaces are fully dehydrated. These powders pressureless sinter to more than 99.5% dense alpha-Al(2)O(3) with final grain sizes < or =500 nm without sintering aids.  相似文献

In this study, the resolution of a time-domain terahertz spectrometer for tablet porosity measurements was estimated using two sets of pharmaceutical tablets. One set consisted of tablets with constant thickness and with porosity as a variable. The other set consisted of tablets with variable thickness and only a relatively small change in porosity. The set with constant thickness was used for the calibration of the terahertz (THz) spectrometer for the porosity measurements, and the resolution of the terahertz spectrometer was estimated using the set with different thicknesses and slightly different porosities. It was shown that a time-domain THz spectrometer is a sensitive device that allows monitoring of minute changes in the porosity of pharmaceutical tablets by detecting the time delay of the THz pulse, which is attributable to different refractive indices within the tablet.  相似文献

Surface engineering shows an increasing potential to provide a sustainable approach to icing problems. Currently, several passive anti-ice properties adoptable to coatings are known, but further research is required to proceed for practical applications. This is due to the fact that icing reduces safety, operational tempo, productivity and reliability of logistics, industry and infrastructure. An icing wind tunnel and a centrifugal ice adhesion test equipment can be used to evaluate and develop anti-icing and icephobic coatings for a potential use in various arctic environments, e.g., in wind power generation, oil drilling, mining and logistic industries. The present study deals with evaluation of icing properties of flame-sprayed polyethylene (PE)-based polymer coatings. In the laboratory-scale icing tests, thermally sprayed polymer coatings showed low ice adhesion compared with metals such as aluminum and stainless steel. The ice adhesion strength of the flame-sprayed PE coating was found to have approximately seven times lower ice adhesion values compared with metallic aluminum, indicating a very promising anti-icing behavior.  相似文献

The total caloric and specific nutrient intakes of smokers who became abstinent were compared with those of a control group. Both groups were composed of volunteer inpatients housed in a research ward for 7 days. After smoking ad libitum for 3 days, the experimental group was required to abstain from tobacco for the next 4 days while the control group continued to smoke. Significant increases in total caloric intake and in grams of carbohydrates, protein, fat, and sucrose were observed in the experimental relative to the control group, whereas no significant differences were found in fructose intake. The increase in caloric intake was not specific to increases in snacking. Preliminary analyses showed gender differences in food intake as a result of tobacco abstinence. The effect of oxygen and catalyst reduction temperature in enantioselective hydrogenation of 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione over commercial Pt/Al2O3 catalyst was investigated. Dichloromethane was used as solvent. The catalyst was modified in situ with (−)-cinchonidine. Relatively high enantiomeric excesses (65%) of (R)-1-hydroxy-1-phenyl-2-propanone were obtained with the solvent used as received, i.e. containing traces of dissolved oxygen and other impurities. Dichloromethane dissociated partially on the Pt/Al2O3 surface causing desorption of methane, ethene and HCl from the catalyst during TPD according to mass spectrometric analysis. Under anaerobic conditions the reaction rate was low giving only about 40% enantiomeric excesses of (R)-1-hydroxy-1-phenyl-2-propanone. When injecting 5 mm3 of oxygen into the reactor a beneficial effect was observed (i.e. higher reaction rate and enantiomeric excess) in comparison with anaerobic conditions. Poisoning effect of oxygen was observed when injecting 500 mm3 of oxygen into the reactor. Effect of catalyst reduction temperature was studied at three different temperatures (170, 400 and 455°C). Highest reaction rates and enantiomeric excesses were obtained with the catalyst reduced at 400°C. Methane was desorbed from the catalyst at temperatures between 263 and 383°C which could be the explanation for the lower activity of the catalyst reduced at 170°C. It was demonstrated that small amounts of oxygen can have a beneficial effect in enantioselective hydrogenation of 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione and also that catalyst reduction temperature plays an important role in obtaining high enantiomeric excesses.  相似文献
