This paper introduces two improved forms of the ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm applied to a proportional integral derivative (PID) controller and Smith predictor design. Derivative free optimization methods, namely simplex derivative based pattern search (SDPS) and implicit filtering (IMF), are used to intensify the search mechanism in the ACO algorithm with improved convergence over the original ACO. The effectiveness of the controller schemes using the proposed algorithms, namely SDPS-ACO, and IMF-ACO, is demonstrated using unit step set point response for a class of dead-time systems, and the results are compared with some existing methods of controller tuning.  相似文献

Although the current production of oxide nanoparticles may be modest, the wide range of proposed applications and forecasted growth in production has raised questions about the potential impact of these nanoparticles on the environment and human health. Iron oxide nanoparticles have been proposed for an increasing number of biomedical applications although in vitro toxicity depending on the particles coating has been evidenced. The aim of this study was to examine the potential in vitro cyto- and genotoxicity on human dermal fibroblasts of DMSA-coated maghemite nanoparticles (NmDMSA) as a function of well-defined physicochemical states. Well-stabilized NmDMSA produced weak cytotoxic and no genotoxic effects. This is attributed in part to the DMSA coating, which serves as a barrier for a direct contact between nano-oxide and fibroblasts, inhibiting a potential toxic effect.  相似文献

Connectionist learning models have had considerable empirical success, but it is hard to characterize exactly what they learn. The learning of finite-state languages (FSL) from example strings is a domain which has been extensively studied and might provide an opportunity to help understand connectionist learning. A major problem is that traditional FSL learning assumes the storage of all examples and thus violates connectionist principles. This paper presents a provably correct algorithm for inferring any minimum-state deterministic finite-state automata (FSA) from a complete ordered sample using limited total storage and without storing example strings. The algorithm is an iterative strategy that uses at each stage a current encoding of the data considered so far, and one single sample string. One of the crucial advantages of our algorithm is that the total amount of space used in the course of learning for encoding any finite prefix of the sample is polynomial in the size of the inferred minimum state deterministic FSA. The algorithm is also relatively efficient in time and has been implemented. More importantly, there is a connectionist version of the algorithm that preserves these properties. The connectionist version requires much more structure than the usual models and has been implemented using the Rochester Connectionist Simulator. We also show that no machine with finite working storage can iteratively identify the FSL from arbitrary presentations.  相似文献

Diagrid structural systems are emerging as structurally efficient as well as architecturally significant assemblies for tall buildings. This paper presents a simple methodology for determining preliminary member sizes. The methodology is applied to a set of building heights ranging from 20 to 60 stories, and parameters for the optimal values of the grid geometry are generated for representative design loadings. These values are shown to be useful for architects and engineers as guidelines for preliminary design. Foamed polyimides have been developed in order to obtain thin film dielectric layers with very low dielectric constants for use in microelectronic devices. In these systems the pore sizes are in the nanometer range, thus, the term ‘nanofoam’. The polyimide foams are prepared from block copolymers consisting of thermally stable and thermally labile blocks, the latter being the dispersed phase. Foam formation is effected by thermolysis of the thermally labile block, leaving pores of the size and shape corresponding to the initial copolymer morphology. Nanofoams prepared from a number of polyimides as matrix materials were investigated as well as from a number of thermally labile polymers. The foams were characterized by a variety of experiments including TEM, SAXS, WAXD, DMTA, density measurements, refractive index measurements and dielectric constant measurements. Thin film foams, with high thermal stability and low dielectric constants approaching 2.0, can be prepared using the copolymer/nanofoam approach.  相似文献

The ozone source apportionment technology (OSAT) estimates the contributions of different sources to ozone concentrations using a set of tracers for NOx, total VOCs, and ozone and an indicator that ascribes instantaneous ozone production to NOx or VOCs. These source contributions were compared to first-order sensitivities obtained by the decoupled direct method (DDM) for a three-dimensional simulation of an ozone episode in the Lake Michigan region. The cut-point for the OSAT indicator between VOC- and NOx-sensitive ozone production agrees well with the DDM sensitivities to VOC and NOx. In a ranking of the most important contributors to ozone concentrations >80 ppb, the OSAT and DDM results agreed on four of the top five contributors on average. The spatial distributions of the sensitivities and source contributions are similar, and the OSAT and DDM results for ozone >80 ppb correlate well. However, the source contributions ascribe substantially less relative importance to anthropogenic emissions and greater relative importance to the boundary concentrations than do the sensitivities. In regions where NOx inhibits ozone formation and the sensitivity is negative, the source contribution is small and positive. For the same subdivision of the emissions, the OSAT is 14 times faster than the DDM, but the DDM has greater flexibility in defining which emissions to include and generates results for species other than ozone. The first-order sensitivities explain, on average, 70% of the ozone concentrations.  相似文献

The fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) technology is one of the pillars of the modern petroleum industry which converts the crude oil fractions into many commodity fuels and platform chemicals, such as gasoline. Although the FCC field is quite mature, the research scope is still enormous due to changing FCC feedstock, gradual shifts in market demands and evolved unit operations. In this review, we have described the current status of FCC technology, such as variation in the present day feedstocks and catalysts, and particularly, great attention is paid to the effects of various contaminants of the FCC catalysts of which the latter part has not been sufficiently documented and analyzed in the literature yet. Deposition of various contaminants on cracking catalyst during FCC process, including metals, sulfur, nitrogen and coke originated from feedstocks or generated during FCC reaction constitutes a source of concern to the petroleum refiners from both economic and technological perspectives. It causes not only undesirable effects on the catalysts themselves, but also reduction in catalytic activity and changes in product distribution of the FCC reactions, translating into economic losses. The metal contaminants (vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe) and sodium (Na)) have the most adverse effects that can seriously influence the catalyst structure and performance. Although nitrogen and sulfur are considered less harmful compared to the metal contaminants, it is shown that pore blockage by the coking effect of sulfur and acid sites neutralization by nitrogen are serious problems too. Most recent studies on the deactivation of FCC catalysts at single particle level have provided an in-depth understanding of the deactivation mechanisms. This work will provide the readers with a comprehensive understanding of the current status, related problems and most recent progress made in the FCC technology, and also will deepen insights into the catalyst deactivation mechanisms caused by contaminants and the possible technical approaches to controlling catalyst deactivation problems.  相似文献

A novel DNA solid-phase extraction protocol based on the pH-dependent charge of chitosan was developed specifically for low-volume DNA extraction on microchips. The method uses chitosan-coated beads to extract DNA at pH 5 and release it from the chitosan at pH 9. DNA extraction efficiency as high as 92% could be attained, even from complex samples such as human blood containing significant amounts of protein. Using this method, PCR inhibitors that are typically used in DNA extraction procedures (e.g., chaotropic salts, 2-propanol) can be avoided, making the method more conducive to downstream sample processing using PCR. A high-density multichannel microchip device was then fabricated and the microchannels coated with chitosan for DNA extraction in an open channel configuration without the need for an additional stationary phase. This design provided a relatively high surface area-to-volume ratio for extraction, while retaining the low flow resistance commensurate with open channels. With a flow rate of approximately 1 microL/min during the extraction, the total extraction time was less than 10 min, with most of the DNA recovered in the first 2 microL of elution buffer. Using the microchip device, extraction efficiencies for lambda-phage DNA and human genomic DNA were as high as 67 and 63%, respectively. Human genomic DNA from whole blood samples could be extracted in 10 min with an extraction efficiency of 75 +/- 4% (n = 3), and the purified DNA was suitable for PCR amplification of a fragment of the gelsolin gene. The combination of an entirely aqueous DNA extraction method with a high-density, low-flow resistance microchannel pattern sets the stage for future integration into microfluidic genomic analysis devices.  相似文献

A series of co-precipitated Zn1?xCoxGdyFe2?yO4 spinel ferrites (x = 0.0–0.5, y = 0.00–0.10) sintered at 1000 °C were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometery (VSM) and microwave cavity perturbation (MCP). XRD patterns and FTIR spectra reveal formation of the spinel phase along with few traces of GdFeO3 second phase. The lattice constant decreases with an increasing amount of CoGd ions due to the segregation of Gd3+on the grain boundaries and due to replacement of lager Zn2+ ions with smaller Co2+ ions. SEM shows grain size to decrease with the increase of CoGd contents due to grain growth inhibition by the second phase. VSM results show remanence and saturation magnetization to exhibit an increasing trend due to Co substitution on octahedral sites and presence of a second phase. The coercivity increases with the increase of CoGd contents due to anisotropic nature of Co. MCP shows the complex magnetic permeability to increase with CoGd concentration while the complex permittivity decreases.  相似文献

The aging behavior of 3-mol%-yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (3Y-TZP) ceramics sintered in air and in reducing conditions was investigated at 140°C in water vapor. It was observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) that 3Y-TZP samples sintered in reducing conditions exhibited significantly higher tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation than samples with similar density and average grain size values but obtained by sintering in air. This fact is explained by the increase of the oxygen vacancy concentration and by the presence at the grain boundary region of a new aggregate phase formed because of the exolution of Fe2+ ions observed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.  相似文献
