This paper investigates the use of punctured recursive systematic convolutional codes for turbo coding in a 2-user binary adder channel (2-BAC) in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise, aiming to achieve a higher transmission sum rate with reduced decoding complexity. The encoders for the 2-BAC are assumed to be block synchronized and to employ identical puncturing patterns. Iterative decoding combining the Bahl Cocke Jelinek Raviv algorithm and a two-user punctured trellis is employed. For each user and for a fixed puncturing pattern, random interleavers of length 256 bits or 1024 bits, respectively, are simulated and corresponding curves relating bit error rate versus signal to noise ratio are presented for performance comparison purposes. Computer simulation indicates that the loss in performance of a punctured turbo code can be negligible when longer interleavers are used for both users, similarly to the single user case. 相似文献

In this paper, the effects that limit the performance of practical implementations of RC relaxation oscillators are investigated. The insights gained are used to suggest a topology for high-frequency quadrature relaxation oscillators with closer-to-optimal performance. The proposed oscillator uses a modified latch to improve the switching speed without increasing the power consumption. Moreover, the new topology avoids static current sources, maximizes the voltage swing and has an active coupling structure without static power consumption that reduces the circuit phase-noise. Experimental results show that the oscillator operates in relaxation mode at 2.4 GHz and achieves a FoM of \(\mathrm {-162\,dBc/Hz}\), which is, as far as the authors know, the best FoM for relaxation oscillators operating in the GHz range. 相似文献

In this work we present and analyze three approaches for the adaptive control of the operating point of a cascade of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), aimed at optical networks performance enhancement. The first approach is called Annealing Search Heuristic with Backpropagation and flexible output (AsHB flex) and uses machine learning concepts to update the amplifier gains through an iterative process. The second one (Exhaustive Method) uses an exhaustive search to evaluate all possible solutions for the problem and obtain the optimum solution. The last one (MaxGain) is a heuristic method that uses previous knowledge about the problem to obtain the solutions. The amplifier characteristics and specifications were obtained experimentally through measurements of gain, noise figure, gain ripple and power consumption on commercially available EDFAs. We performed comparisons among these approaches and others found in the literature, and the results show that the three proposals outperformed the previous ones in terms of noise figure, gain ripple and BER. For example, in a link with four amplifiers the Exhaustive Method achieved a reduction in the cascade noise figure from 10.05 to 5.18 dB, a reduction in the gain ripple from 24.08 to 18.56 dB and a reduction in the BER in almost two orders of magnitude, when compared with the traditional approach, which defines the gain to compensate the loss of the previous link. However, the computation time of Exhaustive Method becomes prohibitive as the number of amplifiers in the link increases. As in most Hymenoptera, the eusocial stingless bees (Meliponini) have a complementary sex determination (CSD) system. When a queen makes a “matched mating” with a male that shares a CSD allele with her, half of their diploid offspring are diploid males rather than females. Matched mating imposes a cost, since diploid male production reduces the colony workforce. Hence, adaptations preventing the occurrence or attenuating its effects are likely to arise. Here we provide clear evidence that in the stingless bee Scaptotrigona depilis, the emergence of diploid males induces queen death, and this usually occurs within 10–20 days of the emergence of diploid male offspring from their pupae. Queens that have not made a matched mating die when introduced into a colony in which diploid males are emerging. This shows that the adult diploid males, and not the queen that has made a matched mating herself, are the proximate cause of queen death. Analysis of the cuticular hydrocarbon profiles of adult haploid and diploid males shows six compounds with significant differences. Moreover, the diploid and haploid males only acquire distinct cuticular hydrocarbon profiles 10 days after emergence. Our data shows that the timing of queen death occurs when the cuticular hydrocarbons of haploid and diploid males differ significantly, suggesting that these chemical differences could be used as cues or signals to trigger queen death. 相似文献

Oxalate‐based products are effective against dentine sensitivity and have been studied as an option to improve long‐term adhesive bonding strength. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of potassium oxalate on the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of the dentin/resin interface after 24 h, 1, and 6 years. Dentin on the occlusal surface of 16 human premolars was exposed and etched with 35% phosphoric acid. The teeth were divided into four groups. Two groups received 3% monohydrated potassium oxalate and the following adhesive systems and composites: Adper Scotchbond Multipurpose + FiltekZ350 (3M/ESPE) and Prime & Bond NT + Esthet‐X (Dentsply). Two control groups did not receive potassium oxalate. Teeth were cut into sticks and kept in distilled water at 37°C for 24 h, 1, and 6 years. The sticks underwent µTBS testing after storage. ANOVA, Tukey's post hoc test, and paired t test were used to compare storage times (α = 0.05). The fracture mode of the specimens was classified under a stereomicroscope (40×). Morphology of the hybrid layer and the fracture pattern were observed with scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Mean µTBS was high at 24 h and decreased after 1 and 6 years. After 6 years, the mean µTBS values were similar with no statistically significant difference between the groups (p = .121). SEM images showed proper dentin hybridization. Dentin pretreatment with potassium oxalate did not affect hybrid layer formation, but bond strength decreased over time after 24 h. Therefore, the clinical use of potassium oxalate to increase dentin bond durability is not indicated. 相似文献

This in situ study evaluated the tubular occlusion caused by 4% TiF4 gel on the surface of eroded/abraded dentin. Sixty human dentin samples were eroded in vitro and assigned into six groups (n = 10) according to the in situ surface treatment and number of cycling days: 4% TiF4 gel applied once (TiF41), twice (TiF42), or three times (TiF43) followed by 2, 4, and 6 days of erosive/abrasive in situ cycling, respectively. Control groups (no treatment) were subjected to 2 (C1), 4 (C2), and 6 (C3) days of erosive/abrasive in situ cycling only. A seventh group (n = 10) was comprised by in vitro uneroded samples (UN), subjected to 6 days of in situ erosive/abrasive cycling. Each cycling day consisted on six erosive (0.5% citric acid, pH 2.6) and one abrasive events. Environmental scanning electron microscopy micrographs were taken. For all groups, blinded examiners assessed dentin tubules occlusion using visual scores (0—unoccluded, 1—partially occluded by granular deposits, 2—partially occluded by reduction in tubular lumen into diamond shape, 3—completely occluded) on images captured prior and after the in situ phase. Scheirer‐Ray‐Hare test demonstrated that treatments significantly affected tubule occlusion (p < .001). Dunn's test showed that tubule occlusion in TiF43 was significantly higher than in C1. Tubule occlusion in remaining groups did not differ from that observed in groups TiF43 and C1. Tubule occlusion was significantly higher after in situ phase. It may be suggested that TiF4, when applied three times, was able to positively change tubule occlusion of dentin samples. 相似文献

Intermittent drying of materials is an alternative operation that aims at reducing energy consumption, improve the preservation of dried products or decrease effective drying time. Intermittent drying supplies the system with time-varying input air properties that are opposite to traditional operations, where air properties are constant at the dryer inlet. The major objective of this study is to establish the most satisfactory patterns of air temperature and velocity modulation at the dryer entrance to reduce energy consumption. This optimization study was based on a heterogeneous model for the drying of grains in fixed bed validated with experimental data. Intermittent and conventional operation experiments were conducted using equal energy consumption, and the influence of air temperature and velocity modulation on the drying rates related to the percentage of evaporated water were assessed. Results indicated that higher drying rates can be achieved under intermittent operation, and the validated model based on these results could reasonably predict temperature and moisture content profiles. Simulations pointed out that the best modulation patterns of air properties is a function of a variety of system conditions such as initial temperature and moisture content of both soybean and drying air. However, a tendency to reduce energy consumption was observed when the system operation is initially at high temperature and constantly at low velocity. 相似文献

Research in condensed matter physics on topological insulators and superconductors has contributed greatly to the characterization of the surface properties and zero modes of nanowires. In this work we investigated theoretically, using the recursive Green’s function approach, electron transport through a T-shaped single-level spinless quantum dot, connected to a zigzag chain and coupled to a p-wave superconductor. This model is an extension of the Kitaev chain for a triangular network of finite size with three, four, and five sites. We found that the Majorana zero modes can be tuned through the coupling parameters of the device and that the linear conductance shows Majorana bound states (MBS) in the topological phase, being maximally robust in the general topological phase. This more realistic model permits the detection of MBS via control of the parameters governing the electronic tunneling and could be helpful for relevant experiments. 相似文献

The nutritive value of a soya milk and soya protein isolate available in Brazil was tested in formulas fed to 30 malnourished children during a period of 25 days. The chemical composition of all formulas was similar, including their energy and protein content. The protein (1.5 g/100 ml) was supplied by either cow's milk, unfortified soy milk, unfortified soy protein isolate, and methionine-enriched soy milk or methionine-enriched soy isolate. Methionine was added at the level of 1.5 g/100 g of protein. The trials included clinical, biochemical and nitrogen balance studies, and results indicated that these soy products formulas did not have the same nutritive value of cow's milk. However, the nutritional quality of soy milk was improved by methionine supplementation, but the soy protein isolate was not affected by the addition of the same amino acid. Average nitrogen retention as percent of intake ranged from 31.8 to 34.7 in the children fed cow's milk. Those that received soy milk retained 10.5 to 15.3%, and when methionine was added the average retention increased from 17.2 to 24.8%. When the isolated soy protein was fed, the average retention values were 14.7 to 16.5% without methionine, and 11.0% when the methionine-supplemented formula was used. Factors that could influence the results and the importance of the subject are discussed. 相似文献

A method for determination of tacticity in polypropylene (PP) using FTIR associated with multivariate analysis is presented. Blends of PP with known tacticity were prepared with isotactic, syndiotactic, and atactic polymer and analyzed by 13C‐NMR. The FTIR spectra were recorded and processed through principal components regression (PCR) and partial least‐squares regression (PLS), using information from several different portions of the spectra. The method was compared with the classical methods of tacticity determination by FTIR based on the intensities of the bands at 998 cm?1 (isotactic), 868 cm?1 (syndiotactic), and 975 cm?1 (internal standard), which are known to be dependent on the crystallinity of the polymer and, thus, affected by temperature and sample preparation. The models obtained with multivariate calibration, both with PCR and PLS, gave prediction errors up to fivefold smaller than that of the classical methods, and were also shown not to be heavily dependent on the bands that are affected by the crystallinity of the polymer, but rather on the methyl and methylene bendings at 1375 and 1462 cm?1. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
