Lime-stabilized red mud bricks   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Red mud is a waste material obtained from the aluminium extraction industry and consists mainly of the oxides of aluminium, iron and titianium. The present red mud production in the country is above two million tons every year, which is not being put to any worthwhile use except as a filler to a small extent in the preparation of roads. Efforts have been made at CBRI to produce burnt clay bricks by partially replacing the clay with red mud and fly-ash. In this process, the red mud is expected to find a major use shortly. Efforts have also been made to incorporate in the red mud a small percentage of lime and compress the mix at optimum moisture content in the form of bricks with a purpose of examining their strength and stability to the erosive action of water. A maximum wet compressive strength of 3.75 MN m?2 with 5% lime and 4.22 MN m?2 with 8% lime has been obtained after 28 days of casting and humid curing in the month of August. The red mud sample studied was obtained from the Indian Aluminium Company. The brick samples were studied for accelerated weathering and found suitable for use as a walling material for low-cost shelters. Modifications in the red mud mix, especially from the viewpoint of particle size distribution, have also been examined simultaneously by its part replacement with coarse-grained soil and fly-ash. The results indicate that the basis of the beneficial action of lime on red mud is predominantly chemical.  相似文献

The molecular ion of the nanoparticle Au 25(SCH 2CH 2Ph) 18 (A 25(SR) 18) is observed at 7394 Da in fast atom bombardment (FAB, Xe atoms) ionization mass spectrometry using a 3-nitrobenzyl alcohol matrix. A distinctive pattern of positive fragment ions is evident in the mass interval 5225-7394 Da, where peaks are seen for successive mass losses equivalent to R 2S entities. Because the Au 25(SCH 2CH 2Ph) 18 nanoparticle structure is crystallographically known to consist of a centered Au 13 icosahedral core surrounded by six Au 2(SR) 3 semirings, the R 2S loses are proposed to represent serial rearrangements and decompositions of the semiring structures. Mass losses equivalent to R 2S 2 and R 2 entities also appear at the lower end of this mass interval. The most intense spectral peak, at m/ z = 5246 Da, is assigned to the fragment Au 25S 10, from which all of the CH 2CH 2Ph organic units have been cleaved but from which no gold atoms have been lost. A different pattern of fragmentation is observed at lower masses, producing ions corresponding to serial losses of one gold atom and varied numbers of sulfur atoms, which continues down to a Au 9S 2 fragment. FAB mass spectra of the Au nanoparticle are much easier to interpret than laser desorption/ionization spectra, but they show more extensive fragmentation than do electrospray and low laser pulse intensity MALDI spectra. The loss of R 2S fragmentation in FAB is distinctive and unlike that seen in the other ionization modes. The FAB spectrum for the nanoparticle Au 25(S(CH 2) 9CH 3) 18 is also reported; its fragmentation parallels that for Au 25(SCH 2CH 2Ph) 18, implying that this nanoparticle has the same surprising stellated (staples) structure.  相似文献

An ultrafast synthesis method is presented for hexanethiolate-coated gold nanoclusters (d < 2 nm, <250 atoms per nanocluster), which takes only 2 min and can be easily reproduced. With two immiscible solvents, gold nanoclusters are separated from the reaction byproducts fast and easily without any need for post-synthesis cleaning.  相似文献

Ligand exchange reactions on size-selected Au(38)(2-PET)(24) and Au(40)(2-PET)(24) clusters (2-PET: 2-phenylethylthiol) with mono- and bi-dentate chiral thiols were performed. The reactions were monitored with MALDI mass spectrometry and the arising chiroptical properties were compared to the number of incorporated chiral ligands. Only a small fraction of chiral ligands is needed to induce significant optical activity to the clusters. The use of bidentate 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-dithiol (BINAS) leads to slow exchange, but the optical activity measured is strong. Moreover, a non-linear behaviour between optical activity and the number of chiral ligands is found in the BINAS case for both Au(38) and Au(40), which may indicate different exchange rates of enantiopure BINAS with the enantiomers of inherently chiral (but racemic) clusters. This is ascribed to effects arising from the bidentate nature of BINAS. In contrast, the use of monodentate camphor-10-thiol (CamSH) leads to comparably fast exchange on both clusters. The arising optical activity is weak. This is the first study where chiroptical effects are directly correlated with the composition of the ligand shell.  相似文献

在减压蒸馏和白土吸附处理的基础上,对废汽油发动机油分别进行了溶剂精制、溶剂加表面活性剂助剂精制处理。在精制油中补充质量分数3%ZDDP添加剂后,利用UMT试验机和四球摩擦磨损试验机考察其抗磨减摩性能,采用扫描电子显微镜(SEM)和白光共焦三维形貌仪分析试验后试样磨痕表面形貌。结果表明:废油通过溶剂精制后得到的精制油,在补充3%的ZDDP后,具有良好的抗磨减摩性能,特别是采用溶剂加表面活性剂助剂精制处理后得到的精制油,补充ZDDP后抗磨减摩性能大大改善,甚至优于新油。  相似文献

Nickel was recovered from a fertilizer industry spent catalyst by leaching with nitric acid followed by nickel hydroxide precipitation. The optimization of temperature, initial acid concentration and particle size for leaching of the spent catalyst was done through 23 factorial design. A maximum extraction of 91.9% was achieved at 90 °C, 1.5M HNO3 and 62.5 μm particle size. Temperature and acid concentration showed positive effect, while particle size showed no effect. A regression equation was developed and employed to predict conditions for 100% extraction which were experimentally tested. Nickel hydroxide was electrochemically precipitated from the leach liquor and its maximum discharge capacity was found to be 155 mAh/g. A 3-stage counter current leaching circuit was designed to obtain a leach liquor of suitable pH. XRD characterization of the precipitated Ni(OH)2 shows to consist of both α- and β-forms.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline thin films of Zn1−xMxO (M = Ni, Cr) were deposited on glass substrate by sol-gel method. To a solution of zinc acetate 2-hydrate in dimethyl formamide, calculated quantities of nickel nitrate or chromium acetate were added. The clear solution, obtained after 2 h of continuous stirring, was coated on conducting glass (ITO plates). After preannealing at 250 °C to remove organic impurities, films were sintered at 400, 500 and 600 °C. XRD analysis reveals dominant evolution of hexagonal ZnO with a possible simultaneous growth of meta-stable cubic ZnO. AFM analysis indicated preferential growth of nanocrystallites along c-axis, while SEM analysis confirmed films having uniform morphology. Optical characterization led to two band gap values; one matching with the band gap of bulk ZnO and the second slightly higher, which suggest quantum confinement effect in nanocrystallites. Ni and Cr incorporation influenced the two band gap energies differently. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) splitting of water was attempted, using prepared thin films as working electrode, in conjunction with Pt counter electrode and saturated calomel reference electrode along with 150 W Xenon Arc light source and aqueous solution of NaOH (0.01 M). Results indicate Ni:ZnO films yielding improved photoresponse compared to Cr:ZnO films. Ni:ZnO (5 % at.) films sintered at 600 °C resulted in significantly enhanced photocurrent due to improved optical absorption and decrease in resistivity.  相似文献

The increasing demand for multi‐task green solvents has spurred the development of next‐generation liquid media such as deep eutectic solvents (DESs), which have recently attracted increased attention. DESs are mixtures of salts and complexing agents, having freezing points lower than those of starting individual components. Similarly to ionic liquids, DESs exhibit distinctive properties such as chemical and thermal stability, biodegradability, non‐flammability, and cost effectiveness. These features account for their wide range of applications, e.g. as extractants, reactants, catalysts, reaction media, additives, and lubricants. This review summarizes the recent research efforts directed at exploring the potential applications of DESs in various chemical processes. With the rapid publication of reports on this new generation of solvents, other roles also are expected to be seen sooner or later. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
