Assessment of the Alkali‐Reactivity of Aggregates Damages to concrete structures caused by the involvement of alkali‐silica reaction (ASR) are still today a world‐wide problem and increased in the last years despite of intensive research, available standards and guidelines. Especially pavement concretes (roads, airports) are affected by ASR due to the external alkali‐supply by deicers. At the F.A. Finger‐Institute for Building Material Sciences (FIB), a combination of an accelerated mortarbar test and comprehensive petrographic and mineralogic examinations are used for a short‐term assessment of the alkali‐reactivity of aggregates. For a reliable assessment of the ASR damage‐potential of specific concretes, a new developed ASR performance‐test, the cyclic climate storage, is used. 相似文献

Building-related information is captured and has to be reused throughout the entire building life cycle. Therefore, an intuitively understandable and easy-to-handle access to a building life cycle wide archive is essential. Cross-disciplinary information seeking should be possible based on a three-dimensional representation of the building. In information seeking the planner must not be restricted to a single searching strategy. This paper initially focuses on all supporting explorative searching strategies. A “raw” building information model schema has been enhanced by user-oriented associations between particular data objects, referred to in this paper as “navigation links.” Each link is defined as a new property of a particular concept of the building model schema. Such a link points to a query recipe that can retrieve information about each instance of the concept. If the link is activated by a user, the query recipe is instantiated and processed by the system. The navigation links are formally represented using the Web Ontology Language. This paper describes the structure of the links as well as the structure of the system, which stores and processes the links throughout an information-seeking session. 相似文献

Rats were made hypothyroid by adding propylthiouracil (PTU) to their drinking water. Some of the PTU-treated rats were given thyroid hormone injections for 5 days. Both soluble and particulate cAMP-phosphodiesterase activities of adipose and ventricular tissues were increased by 25-60% in hypothyroidism. In left atria, soluble cAMP-phosphodiesterase activity was not significantly altered in hypothyroidism, while total particulate cAMP-phosphodiesterase activity was lowered by 30%. This lowering was due to diminished isoenzyme IV activity, as studied with the isoenzyme-specific inhibitors rolipram and SK&F 94836. In conclusion, the present results show decreased particulate type IV cAMP-phosphodiesterase activity in hypothyroid rat atria. This may explain the increased responsiveness to isoproterenol in hypothyroid atria. 相似文献

To increase the fractional energy savings achieved with solar thermal combisystems the store volume may be increased. Installation of large stores in single-family houses is, however, often limited by space constraints. In this article the influence of the store dimensions, as well as internal and external auxiliary volume configurations, are investigated for large solar water stores by annual dynamic TRNSYS simulations. The results show that store sizes up to 4 m3 may be used in solar heating systems with 30 m2 collector area. It is further shown that well-insulated stores are rather insensitive to the geometry. Stores deviating from the conventional dimensions still yield high fractional energy savings. Furthermore, the simulations show that the performance of an internal auxiliary volume configuration in most cases exceeds that of a solution with an external auxiliary unit. The practical limitations of very thin auxiliary volumes must, however, be further investigated. 相似文献

An objective of the study was to identify leaf morphophysiological characteristics indicative of high aboveground woody biomass production of Salix clones growing in the vegetation filter of a wastewater purification system. It was hypothesized, that in these extra irrigated stands, the characteristics of photosynthesis are stronger determinants of the production than the characteristics of leaf water relations. The biomass production of the clones was correlated with numerous characteristics of leaf water relations and photosynthesis. Significant correlation was found between the biomass production and the following characteristics of top foliage leaves: daily decrease in water potential, stomatal conductance, stomatal sensitivity to increase in light intensity, and hydraulic conductance (positive); daily minimum and maximum water potentials, instantaneous water use efficiency, and stomatal sensitivity to decrease in leaf water potential (negative); maximum rate of photosynthetic electron transport, chlorophyll content, and the partitioning coefficient for leaf nitrogen into bioenergetics associated with electron transport (positive). In the most productive clones, the vertical gradient (through foliage) of values of almost all the characteristics was the smallest. The biomass correlated more strongly with the characteristics of photosynthesis light stage than with the characteristics of water relations. We conclude that the characteristics of photosynthesis light stage – high maximum rate of photosynthetic electron transport, high chlorophyll content, and also flat vertical gradient (through foliage) in values of the characteristics could be the strongest indicators of high biomass production of Salix clones growing in vegetation filter. 相似文献

A collection of new reversible glycosidase inhibitors of the iminoalditol type featuring N‐substituents containing perfluorinated regions has been prepared for evaluation of physicochemical, biochemical and diagnostic properties. The vast variety of feasible oligofluoro moieties allows for modular approaches to customised structures according to the intended applications, which are influenced by the fluorine content as well as the distance of the fluorous moiety from the ring nitrogen. The first examples, in particular in the D ‐galacto series, exhibited excellent inhibitory activities. A preliminary screen with two human cell lines showed that, at subinhibitory concentrations, they are powerful pharmacological chaperones enhancing the activities of the catalytically handicapped lysosomal D ‐galactosidase mutants associated with GM1 gangliosidosis and Morquio B disease. 相似文献

Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with β‐cell failure, which correlates with the formation of pancreatic islet amyloid deposits. The human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) is the major component of islet amyloid and undergoes structural changes followed by self‐association and pathological tissue deposition during aggregation in T2DM. There is clear evidence that the aggregation process is accelerated in the presence of particular lipid membranes. Whereas hIAPP aggregation has been extensively studied in homogeneous model membrane systems, especially negatively charged lipid bilayers, information on the interaction of hIAPP with heterogeneous model raft membranes has been missing until now. In the present study, we focus on the principles of aggregation and amyloid formation of hIAPP in the presence of model raft membranes. Time‐lapse tapping mode AFM and confocal fluorescence microscopy experiments followed membrane permeabilization and localization of hIAPP in the raft membrane. Together with the ThT and WST‐1 assay, the data revealed elevated cytotoxicity of hIAPP oligomers on INS‐1E cells. 相似文献

Stents are structural implants with widespread clinical use in vascular intervention to re‐open stenotic vessels for the treatment of coronary artery disease and peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Apart from their mechanical function, current drug‐eluting stents (DES) utilize local drug delivery from a drug‐incorporated permanent polymer coating to prevent in‐stent restenosis. This delayed closure of the stented vessel is considered one of the major limitations of conventional bare metal stents (BMS). The long‐term safety of DES, however, is still under debate, with reported cases of delayed healing, late thrombosis and hypersensitivity demanding further evolution in this field. A promising approach to circumvent the limitations of first generation DES is the application of degradable polymer coatings in second generation DES, and fully absorbable polymer stents. From a materials and engineering perspective, this paper provides a mini‐review of current clinically relevant DES technology and recent advancements in the development of stents from degradable polymeric materials as an alternative to permanent BMS and DES. This review, includes work on degradable stents and coatings based on blends of polylactic acid and the microbially‐produced poly(4‐hydroxybutyrate). Key performance indicators have become a common tool in bioprocess development, as they allow an objective and independent rating and ranking of process alternatives screened. A disadvantage of all key performance indicators developed so far is their strong focus on costs, which makes them neglect the influence of the production rate on the profit of the process. But, since both production costs and production rate have an equally strong impact, both should be considered when decisions have to be made. Therefore, two new key performance indicators are introduced in this work, one for batch and one for continuous processing. They combine product yield, purity performance, variable manufacturing costs, and production rate to one objective. Thereby, misguided trade‐offs between these four individual measures can be replaced by one key performance indicator. This ensures a systematic development of biochemical downstream processes. 相似文献
