The possibility of an application of Er-doped fiber amplifiers to AM-FDM (frequency division multiplexing) or FM-FDM video distribution networks is discussed. The measured noise and modulation distortion properties of ER-doped fiber amplifiers are good enough to meet even the severe quality standards set for trunk lines. A carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) of 57 dB for an AM-FDM transmission was measured. A second-order harmonic distortion (HD2) of less than -56 dB was measured by the monotone method (modulation depth m =50%), and a cross modulation distortion (XM) of less than -63 dB was measured by the two-tone method (m =25%×channel). On the basis of these values, composite second-order distortion (CSO) and XM in a 40-channel transmission were estimated as less than -57 dB and -73 dB, respectively. This paper deals with the effects of a surfactant additive on the formation of a clathrate hydrate in a quiescent guest-gas/liquid-water system. The paper first presents our strong suspicion against the existing hypothesis that the surfactant-micelle formation in the liquid-water phase promotes the hydrate formation. It is pointed out that the Krafft point for sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), a popular anionic surfactant often used in previous hydrate-forming experiments, is presumably higher than the system temperatures set in these experiments and hence that no micelles may have formed in these experiments. The paper then describes our experimental observations of the hydrate formation from a hydrofluorocarbon gas, HFC-32 (CH2F2), to show how the hydrate formation behavior is affected by the addition of SDS to the water when brought into contact with HFC-32. In each experiment, HFC-32 gas was continuously supplied to a rectangular chamber partially filled with a quiescent pool of water (pure water or an aqueous SDS solution) to compensate for the gas consumption due to the hydrate formation, thereby maintaining a constant pressure inside the chamber. The present experiments featured the following characteristics: (a) detailed visual observations along horizontal axes through large side windows in the test chamber, and (b) surface tension measurements of the aqueous SDS solutions with the aid of a pendant-drop device inserted in the same chamber to determine the SDS-in-water solubility, which seems to have been misunderstood as the critical micelle concentration (CMC) in some previous studies, under the hydrate-forming conditions. The former revealed that the addition of SDS to the pool-forming water results in the formation of thick, highly porous hydrate layers not only on the liquid-pool surface but also on the chamber walls above the level of the pool surface, leaving the bulk of the liquid pool free from hydrate crystals. The latter led to an important finding that the SDS concentration at which the rate of the hydrate formation peaks is slightly lower than the solubility (the false CMC). An excessive addition of SDS beyond the solubility was found to cause a decrease in the rate of hydrate formation but an increase in the final level of the water-to-hydrate conversion. 相似文献

An extracellular exoinulinase from the filamentous fungus Penicillium sp. strain TN-88 has a 14-fold higher specific activity of 743 U/mg toward inulin than its equivalent from the Aspergillus niger strain 12 and possesses an internal 157-amino-acid sequence whose corresponding region is absent in the A. niger enzyme. On the basis of sequence alignment, the internal region D' encoding the 157-amino-acid sequence in the Penicillium exoinulinase gene inuD cDNA was inserted into the site between the nucleotides 897 and 898 of the A. niger exoinulinase gene inuE cDNA. The resultant inuE::D' fusion was expressed in the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris. The K(m) value of the secreted hybrid enzyme InuE::D' for inulin hydrolysis was about 1/15 that of the A. niger InuE, whereas its k(cat) value did not differ greatly from that of the InuE. These observations indicate that the Penicillium exoinulinase has evolved by the horizontal transfer and integration of a relevant DNA segment and that the internal sequence D' functions as an additional noncatalytic inulin-affinity region. 相似文献

Prestressed & precast concrete segmental lining (P&PCSL) is used for shield tunnels. Its primary feature is that it integrates segments into one ring by introducing prestress in the tunnel circumferential and longitudinal directions. Introducing prestress enables the elimination of bolt joints and reduces the volume of reinforcement, thus reducing the manufacturing cost of precast concrete segments. It also enables quality improvement and labor saving in lining and provides greater adaptability for tunnels with large diameter, where deformation due to dead load is a problem. A photocatalytic sensor for the determination of chemical oxygen demand (COD) using titanium dioxide, based on the use of a pair of oxygen electrodes and flow injection analysis, is described. The measuring principle is based on the direct determination of the oxygen concentration change resulting from photocataltic oxidation of organic compounds. One of the two oxygen electrodes, the reference oxygen electrode, was utilized to measure the reference signal responding only to oxygen present in the injected samples. Oxygen consumption due to the TiO2-catalyzed photochemical oxidation of organic compounds in samples was monitored with the working oxygen electrode. The COD value of this sensor was calculated as the difference of the currents at reference and working oxygen electrodes, respectively. The operation characteristics of the sensor are demonstrated using artificially treated wastewater as a substrate. The sensor was also applied to the determination of COD in real water samples from dam reservoirs (n = 20) all over Japan. Acute pancreatitis was studied by electron microscopy after retrograde infusion of either trypsin, and/or beta-glucuronidase into the canine pancreatic duct. Marked changes were induced by the mixture of trypsin and beta-glucuronidase. (1) The acinar cells were initially excavated from the acinar lumen and formed cystic bodies in themselves. The cystic bodies were then disrupted at their marginal membranes, and the acinar cells were filled with a large amount of fibrillar materials which originated from the contents of the cystic bodies. At this time, the luminal margin of the acinar cells completely disappeared. (2) The cellular organellas and the intracellular fibrillar materials in the acinar cells were discharged into the interstitial space through the disrupted basal lamina. Kawaguchi and Hatogaya City are located on the northern edge of Tokyo. We analysed between air pollution and prevalence rate of allergic diseases among elementary school children in this area. A prevalence rate of allergic diseases in 1996 May and June was as follows; bronchial asthma 13.5%, atopic dermatitis 24.5%, allergic rhinitis and/or conjunctivitis 22.8%, urticaria 12.4%, food allergy 7.8% and drug allergy 2.2%, respectively. Air pollution of this area was analysed to check the levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and suspended particulate matters (SPM). NO2 pollution was relatively high in urban area, and SPM pollution was especially high around the highways. SO2 pollution was lower than the environmental standard. No relationship was found between the prevalence rate of bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and/or conjunctivitis and air pollution, but it was found that these diseases are slightly related to population density (p < 0.1, p < 0.01, p < 0.1, respectively). 相似文献
